Association, The - One Too Many Mornings Lyrics

Down the street the dogs are barkin' and the day is gettin' dark
As the night comes in a-fallin' the dogs will lose their bark
And the silent night will shatter from the sounds inside my mind
For I'm one too many mornings and a thousand miles behind

From the crossroads of my doorstep, my eyes, they start to fade
As I turn my head back to the room where my love and I have laid
And I gaze back to the street, the sidewalk, and the sign
And I'm one too many mornings and a thousand miles behind

It's a restless hungry feeling that don't mean no one no good
When everything I'm a-sayin', you can say it just as good
You're right from your side, I am right from mine
We're both just one too many mornings and a thousand miles behind

Association, The One Too Many Mornings Comments
  1. A.... C....

    I was at this concert.

The live version is much better than the original studio version. Much more "depth" in this version, making the studio version sound kinda hollow and empty. Still, a great song by a great group!

I saw them live in concert in a very small venue in 1966 in Garden Grove, California.  They were new to the music scene and they were unbelievably perfect to watch.  I was fresh out of high school filled with  hopes and dreams.  I remember how completely mesmerized the audience was. They are still one of my favorite groups and always be. Lin Terrana--Fresno, Calif.

They butchered the song. But so have a lot of people, including Dylan when he jazzed it up.

  5. B.... S....

This is a more rockin' version of what is on their "Just The Right Sound" collection (which is more bluesy in style).

  6. D.... P....

I saw Back Seat of Heaven performed on the Mike Douglas Show in the early 80's and again on Tom Snyder.

"Coolest dad"...Terry Kirkman sang lead on "Wasn't It a Bit Like Now" until the bridge. Then it was Larry Ramos. Jim Yester sang lead for "Goodbye Columbus." "Are You Ready" was Larry Ramos. "Blistered" was either Russ Gigueri or Brian Cole. And, "Requiem for the Masses" was Terry Kirkman!

This group was so underrated. They we hands-down one of the best vocal bands of that era. I've seen them perform live a number of times and their harmonies were always spot-on, in addition to being great musicians. I'm trying to track down a recording of a song called, "Backseat of Heaven". They performed in in concert but it never got released. I'm pretty sure it did get recorded, though.

  9. T.... H....

I saw these guys perform essentially this same concert 6 months earlier in the fall of '69. They were awesome beyond words. Anyone who ever saw The Association in concert knew that they were one of the greatest American bands ever. They should be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame!

    T.... H....

there is no question about that .

This is great! Russ knocked it out of the park. The whole album is a treat.

borderking59 Russ is a powerhouse vocalist! Windy. Cherish. Wow. One of my favorite voices.

Hey Cool Dad ... Sorry didn't get back to this sooner. I'll have to listen and I can tell you I'm sure. Goodbye Columbus I'm sure is Russ and Larry (I've heard them do it enough times live I should know without question). Anyway, I'll check and get back with you. I'm [email protected] is you want to email me directly.

  21. S.... ....

Yes, yo are. This was the opening song for their Utah concert...and you are a clueless drone. The Assiation were not known for great live performances...but, this was one of them.

  22. C.... L....

Will ALWAYS be, in my opinion, the very best version of this Dylan classic! The Association used their voices as instruments, as well as the actual musical instruments.

Opened up show with that and how many groups could sound that good THEN????????BRAVOOOOOOO!!!
