Association, The - It's Gotta Be Real Lyrics

(Hey-hey-hey-hey)
Walkin' and diggin' the weather
Watchin' the sun
Groovy just bein' together
When the look that I see
Is a smile that's for me
It's gotta be real

(Hey-hey-hey-hey)
The play begins and then we enter on cue
This kind o' lovin's been long overdo
If you listen, you can learn something, too
You know that love's the thing if you can make it
(You know that love's the thing if you can make it)
But it's no good if you have to fake it
(And it's so good)
It's gotta be real

If it's inside, let it show
If it's real, she's gonna know

The play begins and then we enter on cue
(Walkin' and diggin' the weather)
This kind o' lovin's been long overdo
(Watchin' the sun)
If you listen, you can learn something, too
(Groovy just bein' together)
(When the look that I see)
You know that love's the thing, you know that loves the thing
(Is a smile that's for me)
It's so good if you can make it
(It's so good)
Gotta be real

  1. E.... B....

A Prince song 15 years before Prince took off

  2. M.... M....

Superb voices, as ever! I have the soundtrack LP and, yes, I agree with others....this is better than the "Stop Your Motor" version.

  3. A.... D....

It has an R&B vibe to it which makes this song really cool to listen.

  4. A.... L....

Excellent counter-point on last verse...Great disonant ah on bridge....Prefer this version the best of the 2 made......What a Band!!

  5. M.... ....

    groovy just being together

  6. M.... ....

Rest In Peace, my brother, you were one of the greatest singers and I'll Cherish your enormous contribution to music!! You were easily one of my favorite singers/musicians of the sixties and a wonderful human being! I mourn your loss and will continue to listen to your music, Like Always!!!

    M.... ....

MrGoldenthroat yeah one of those movies i'll never forget...because of the soundtrack i think.

  7. k.... s....

This song seems like it belongs on the "still played" list of oldies.  Nice, mellow song with a "feel good" melody.  Discovered it by VHS taping Goodbye Columbus in '90.

  8. M.... ....

The incomparable Larry Ramos is absolutelyamazing on the lead vocal here!! This is easily superior to the other version. One of the top three bands/artists of the sixties along with Chad Stuart and Jeremy Clyde( who happen to be personal friends of mine) and The Grassroots. Also up there are P.F. Sloan, The Kinks,The Left Banke, and The Beach Boys!!!

  9. A.... L....

I agree....this version was better...the band was really tight vocally once Jules re-joined and made it a 7 man band

  10. s.... ....

I like this version better than the one on Stop Your Motor.

    s.... ....

You're right - it is significantly better because of Larry on lead!!
