Asia - Awake Lyrics

"The dawning of a brand new day
The waking of the whispers say:
That sleeping heavens will return
In deepest night the secret learned
And from these walls this city lies
The past will be our future
The journey will be over,
Awake!"

I saw the writing on the wall
The story of our birth then fall
Within their tombs of holy stone
The scrolls of life, one man alone
So if we try, we can live and learn
The sands will pull you under
Don't let them pull you under
Awake!

I travelled to a foreign land
Through stormy seas and burning sand
Led by the stars the ancient stream
The call of treasures yet unseen
So if we climb to the rocks of kings
Together we'll discover
The source of all our wonder
Awake!

Someday we're going to go back to the stars
And find the answer, who we really are
A traveller through the lonely mists of time
Creation from the sky

The dawning of a brand new day
The waking of the whispers say:
That sleeping heavens will return
In deepest night the secret learned
From these walls this city lies
The past will be our future
The journey will be over
Awake!

Someday we're going to go back to the stars
And find the answer who we really are
A traveller through the lonely mists of time
Creation from the sky

Someday we're going to back to the stars
And find the answer who we really are
If we try, we can live and learn
Together we'll discover
The source of all our wonder
Awake!

We saw the writing
We read the story
Awake!

Absolut genial. Und erst noch mit einem Gospelchor!

Love this song. Got my daughter to listen to it because the back end of Paris (Chainsmokers) has really similar key riff.

Finally an album I can listen to over and over again in any mood & it only improves the more I listen to it. A pure joy of an album by the great voice of John Payne. God bless JP.

    Masterpiece.¡

Aura is a great album. The best of the Payne Downes era

A beautiful song, the best on this album. The keyboard instrumental section is simply sublime, and I love the chord changes. I find it interesting how they included 'wherever you are' and 'ready to go home', both written by Graham Gouldman and Andrew Gold and previously released on a 10cc album and a Wax album. They are excellent versions, but I would always favour self penned material, and a couple of the bonus tracks are very good.

One of those songs that is illustrating perfectly how many people either are tonedeaf, have no sense of good taste or too lazy to discover real beauty. It should have 271 805 thumbs up by now, but people rather look at one more stupid video about crazy cats or a good looking non-talent... If people can't even discover good music, how the heck do you want them to find out how to live peacefully with each other ?

@Benoit Vanhees So the alternative is a snob telling you that what you like isn't worth liking.

@pistendee r they don't have to be snobbish by definition. They simply could have a damn good point you simply don't like. That is not the same thing. Everyone is entitled to have his or her preferences, but art, real art that is, simply has to be conform a minimal set of conditions. Now you can start discussing about what conditions should be included and to what extend, but without minimal quality standards, you won't be able to distinguish between real art, damn good craftmanship, relatively OK amateurs and complete non talents. But I agree the whole discussion certainly is tainted by snobs and PR people who make a lot of "buzz" and build trends out of baked air. To me, 90 % of modern art is complete rubbish made by overpaid non talents with the right connections in a very mighty mutual admiration society. The same is true for quite a substantial part of modern architects. I'm not fond of religious art, but I see whenever it involves fantastic craftmanship (carved wood etc.) and real art (some paintings, the incredible architecture of some churches etc. I'm not fond of opera, but having sung myself in music school, I do understand why some see it as art. It involves a high degree of difficulty, that only a very limited number of people can perform. Having said that, even if it definetely sometimes is art (Maria Callas), sometimes very fine craftmansship, to me it isn't enjoyable, and I don't believe this ever will change. Inspector Morse certainly could do very snobbish about it. But to me, let's say Tchaikovski combines being art and being enjoyable. Deep Purple (mark II) and Yes achieved without any doubt a very high degree of crafmansship.

@Benoit Vanhees If your point is anything close to "You shouldn't like this because I don't", it's nowhere near a " damn good point."

    B.... V....

@pistendee r if you don't get my point, you shouldn't comment :) I don't give a toss about whether I have any influence on other people or not, I'm not into winning souls or into politics. I'm quite convinced 90 % of the people are made to listen or to love complete rubbish. Fine with me if that statement is snobbish.

    @Benoit Vanhees BIG LINES!!! 👌😉✌
