I had never heard this song until it accompanied the closing credits in The Adjustment Bureau. It's very hypnotic, and is something that could have been composed and performed by any number of groups in the late 1960s. And that's a compliment. Superb stuff.

RU kidding? He's not ripping off Sympathy. He's giving Kieth mad props. The singer is all about the christian view, and the riffs are all about Sympathy for the devil. It rounds out the songs whole vision, babe. Snap out of it.

seriously, if you actually listened to the verve, they arent a one hit wonder, they were very underated. listen to the whole urban hymns album and the albums after that one. they've got alot of good song. "weeping willow" "come on""lucky man" "sit and wonder" "catching the butterfly" and etc. they are one of the most underrated bands aside from the freaking awesome band radio head . ashcroft is cool, but radio head and thom is sick! but thats all I will say lol

I remember The Verve I was just comming out of a terrible way of life and had given my life the Jesus Christ. I remember listening to their songs and thinking about how they were so familiar to the life I had been living and how I was breaking away from it. I also found Ricjhards Songs very inspiring post Verve too. In fact I think his greatest work has been post Verve.
