Art Garfunkel - Someone Else (1958) Lyrics
It's someone else,
I've known it all the time
Known that you're not mine,
And will never be
It's Someone Else,
Holding him so tight,
And it's Someone Else.
No I really can't hate him,
For what's happening to me
Will happen to him
That's a certainty.
And he'll learn
There's always someone else
Always Someone Else
Always Someone Else

Art Garfunkel Someone Else (1958) Comments
kylecrazyford, I heard that Art co-wrote this song. Do you know if this is true? I know from time to time he dabbles in writing but never knew which songs he had a hand in. I so love this song. Thank you for all your posts. I listen every day. Magical, Memorable, Majestic! He touches your soul.
No Carole he didn't. It was the 1st song Jimmy Webb ever wrote in 1958 at 12 years old. Stephen Bishop mentions this fact as he's just covered it on his new album "We'll Talk About It Later In The Car".
This song is so heartbreaking and we've all been there. When Artie sings it you can feel the pain as though it just happened. He puts such feeling and soul into his music. True artist. True legend.
1958? Or 1978?
ruivog Jimmy Webb wrote it when he was 12 years old. He didn't want Garfunkel to release it without letting the public know it was an extremely early attempt at songwriting. It sounds great, but there are some things in there that an adult Webb would never put in a song.
So 1958 was the year it was written.
@Anthony Brancale That's because, way back in '58 maybe 97% of the pop tunes had the same 1-6-2-5-1 formula...so as far as I'm concerned Jimmy has nothing to be ashamed about. It's a pretty damn good tune for that time period and his age!
Caught Jimmy ( Webb wrote this tune) and Glen Campbell at Feinsteins a few years back and only about 150-200 patrons in the restaurant, when Jimmy sat at the piano and played the first couple of bars, I was so excited I yelled out the title!! man, was I embarrassed!!LOL
Saw one of those concerts too at Feinstein's in 2005 - can't remember if he played this song or not - but one of the best concerts I ever saw - and got to speak to Glen afterwards. Down to earth, funny, gracious guy.
Yea Jimmy and Glen put on an extraordinary show, that's for sure. Saw Jimmy in 4 concert settings and he always holds Q and A's afterward. Such a warm /gracious human being. I would also recommend his book on songwriting called "Tunesmith", came out around 1999. Read that even Billy Joel went thru it a few times!!! Jimmy even did Billy's "And So It Goes" during a Chicago concert. I do not believe he's ever recorded it, but Jimmy has so many songs he has written himself, he rarely does another artists works. regards, Bruce
yea, Jimmy usually does meet and greet after his appearances, and he and Glen surely did at Feinstein's as well.....I'm tunz909 they won't let me use the handle again.....he toured with Michael around 2002 and he came out to Ohio where I live and the show was awesome as well.
This has become my song...the story of my life....
Thanks!!! I love this song. It's one of the most favorites along the time. I've been listening for thirty years!
