Art Garfunkel - Mr. Shuck 'N' Jive Lyrics
Tell us once again this morning, old friend
how did you win the war?
Everybody loves a hero,
it won't matter if we've heard your
tale before
everybody knew you were a star
And how intelligent you are
Prove that you're alive
Mr. Shuck 'n Jive
Tell us of the man who stole your for-
tune and nearly ruined your life.
Or better still-the one about the t.v. and
the couch and your best friends' wife
with somebody else to blame
And all the reasons that your fame
never did arrive
Mr. Shuck 'n Jive
If you can get yourself together
kindly write a criticism of this song
How it's exquisitely constructed, yet
mechanical, and somehow slightly wrong
Put it in your book about the enemy
you never even met
You know, you just might make it yet-
But I don't think you'll survive
Mr. Shuck 'n Jive
You know, you just might make it yet-
Mr. Shuck 'n Jive

um fenómeno. maravilhoso. uma pena que não estão com Simon.

Amazing sax solo RIP Paul Desmond his sound stands out immediately and what a wonderful album too
As a Desmond fan since Take Five, I would like to think that BowTieGuyUK2000 hit it right on the nose with his comment about the gloriously painful solo that ends the song.
1980... a student room... dim lights... a wonderful AIWA AD-M700 cassette deck with the new metal tape... an era sadly gone forever... but never forgotten. Such intelligent music.
Many years have passed since I last heard this song (lost the original LP somewhere along the way) but that beautiful, haunting sax solo from the incomparable Paul Desmond still brings a tear to my eye. Superb songwriting from Jimmy Webb, too.
I believe this Was the last recording of Paul Desmond. Barely weeks later he was dead, the cancer got him. It's like he's playing his lifetime in ninety seconds
yes it was. for paul desmond fans, this was a wonderful solo, but somewhat sad.
It's either this or Chet Baker's album You Can't Go Home Again. It was recorded in February and May 1977 while this one was produced between December 1976 and December 1977. Sadly, I couldn't find the actual dates anywhere!
Another great Jimmy Webb song. I disagree with Craig Corsini, I would say both Paul and Arthur are,or were in love with what they were doing. Both are instantly recognisable from their sound. Half a bar's enough to know who you're listening to.
I see some acknowledgement of the late great paul desmond on sax. His solo at the end is hauntingly beautiful. no one played a more mellow sax. I think might be the last studio track he played before he passed away.
The scatting is with Bob Dorough. The stars of this piece are Dorough, Crosby, and Paul Desmond. Arthur is not in their class.
+Craig Corsini Arthur is in a class by himself.
David Crosby sings on this album. I think he's scatting with Garfunkel during the instrumental break.
I respect this recording, but personally prefer the waylon jennings/willie Nelson recording.
I was never a fan of Simon or Garfunkel, but the Desmond solo makes this worth the time.
his best
definitley
All the rhetoric still leaves this a great song about a loser !
Bernard Mainwaring Speak for yourself. The loser is the listener.
WTF are you on about?
This is a great song ! Just love it ! And Paul Desmond is a hero anyway !
FYI, According to the new speech police, this song is now officially racist.
It was also a Record of the Year that year in Stereo Review. I really miss that magazine.
I love this song! I almost wore the Watermark album out.
A great album. This song also features one of the last recordings of the great Paul Desmond on alto sax.
Neither Wylon and Willie's version or this one does this song justice. I wish someone with some vision would pick it up, remix it, and re-release it.
