La-La-La-La-La-La-La-La-La
La-La-La-La-La-La-La-La-La
La-La-La-La-La-La-La-La-La
La-La-La-La-La-La-La-La-La

I shall sing
sing my song
Be it right
be it wrong
In the night
in the day
Anyhow
anyway.
I shall ging
La-La-La-La-La-La-La-La-La
La-La-La-La-La-La-La-La-La

La-La-La-...

With my heart
with my soul
for the young
for the old
When I'm high
when I'm low
When I'm fast
when I'm slow
Who ah
I shall sing

You know, this song came intruding to my mind, about an hour ago ... I decided to "look" for it ... but, when it came up "Art Garfunkel", I was so disappointed ... so happy to kinow that it was, actually "Van Morrison" (Oh, and, by the way, while typing this, I have listened to the Garfunkel version ... so sorry, Art, but this is one remdition which just doesn't work for me ...) ... Oh, and, by the way again ... that "Van Morisson" is not my "hero" either ... Smiling ...

I have been looking for this song for 30 years. I kept mixing up the title of the song and it never showed up on many of the searches I have done. I even posted online and had friends looking but I just could never find it. The into music beat sounds like horses running and stomping the ground and as kids my brothers and I would sit on the floor while my parents played this and we would be tapping our legs to the beat. Crazy enough I bought a record player and went to a used record store and just for kicks I checked out the single and it was there on 45. Hearing this song for the first time since I was 15 brought tears to my eyes. Amazing song and the words came back as if I had been singing it the entire time.

Great! I was looking for Myriam Makeba singing this song. The only version I knew and was astonished to see Art Garfunkel´s thumbnail with the title, and I´m perplex once again that my star Van Morrison wrote it! What´s the message of all this?
    - You never are done with learning.

    k.... ....

Art's the only one who had a hit with it.

  36. D.... B....

this song went to #38 on the pop charts in 1974!!!

    D.... B....

Must have been a lot of good songs in '74 for this to reach only #38.

    D.... B....

@Johnny Lackland Not really. 1974 is considered a fairly weak year, in terms of Top 40 music. So was 1973 and 1979, 1980. Here are the songs on the chart that blocked the great Art Garfunkel song from going higher:

  43. M.... ....

sounds like a Cat Stevens song sung by Cat Stevens. It certainly doesn't sound like a Van Morrison song sung by Arthur Garfunkel.

Happy music for troubled times. Hmmm, perhaps we're overdue for someone to give this little number a fresh re-do? Many thanks for posting this seldom-heard gem.

  48. D.... C....

Love this one! I had the 45 and have not heard it since. Thank you for posting!!

  49. D.... ....

Great song by Van Morrison covered by Art

    D.... ....

Actually, Van Morrison never sung this song. He wrote it for Art. Van Morrison has no song at all named like this on his albums.

    D.... ....

Van recorded this song - brilliantly - a number of times for potential inclusion on Moondance. He didn't write it for Garfunkel. More info here: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/music/rockandpopfeatures/10367638/Van-Morrison-Moondance-outtakes-are-hidden-gems.html

Grace Cathedral is actually in San Francisco. An acoustic dream building, in the 70's Fensternacher then in charge of the incredible pipe organ there kindly shared some time with me explaining some of the the special features of the building. This included how it was to his knowledge, the first Cathedral build around the concept of housing the pipe organ with enhancements in the architecture solely for the organ. If you have a chance go and experience it at one of the organ concerts they do.

  60. f.... ....

It finally appears on the new (just released) expanded version of the classic Moondance album.

  61. s.... ....

Van's version is available on the Moondance reissue released Oct. 22, 2013. Before that, it kicked around on various bootlegs.

  62. S.... ....

As British comedian, writer, producer, surgeon, renaissance man Jonathan Miller put it, "I'm not really a Jew; just Jew-ish"

  63. I.... ....

Perfect song if they made cartoon Dora into a live musical

  64. E.... W....

I remember this when it was being played on the radio in the early 70's

  65. A.... ....

As far as I understand it, Art isn't a practising Jew - but he's still Jewish. Lots of people are Jewish without being of the Jewish faith. Also, if someone with 'berg' in their name says Shalom to you, it's not much of a leap to assume that they might be Jewish.

  66. A.... ....

Also, you can be ethnically Jewish but still a Christian. Stanley Kubrick and Woody Allen were/are atheist Jews.

  67. I.... S....
