Arlo Guthrie - All Over The World Lyrics

I was watching the news tonight
And all over the world
People were singing and carrying signs
All over the world
Every body walking hand in hand
Through cities that I've been
And though I'm not there tonight
You know I'll be back again
I'll be back again, I'll be back again

I'm on a plane tonight for Germany
And All over the world
There are lots of people just like you and me
All over the world
Who know the bomb must never fall again
All over the world
And we must all learn how to live as friends
All over the world
All over the world, all over the world

We are making the news tonight
All over the world
Because we know that what we do is right
All over the world
Every body walking hand in hand
All over the world
Through the streets of Europe and Japan
All over the world
All over the world, all over the world

I had the great fortune to be born to... my parents. Mom's great, and my dad... he's one of those "still waters run deep" boomers, the kind where all it took was a twinkle in the eye to know, hey, I did all right. He, in his quiet way, introduced me to all kinds of music, including folk. I didn't really realize it at the time, but I had the privilege of seeing Pete Seeger live, in London, in 1988, in a union hall, my father by my side. I'm a musician, and I thought I "got" all kinds of music. That intimate show in the "dodgy" side of London was my first exposure to the raw power of socially angry music. It was the first time I really FELT music being used to convey outrage and anger... and I didn't like it one bit. Sure, I'd heard all the "protest" music, ardent pop laments, punk rock, even the heart-tearing operatic arias from Monteverdi to Verdi, etc..., yet music remained beautiful, transcendent, above all the ugliness, warts, and blemishes (yes, somehow, even with the Sex Pistols). But that concert was heart-opening (after my initial offense).
Thank you, dad. And Pete. And everyone else.

    Wonderful time, wonderful music.

Was lucky enough to be there for this performance in OCNJ. It was fabulous to say the least. And 2 days ago I was lucky enough to have Sarah Lee and Johnny just 30 minutes away in a small venue. From Woody to Arlo to Sarah, the music lives on in so many forms. Thanks Guthrie Family!

Beautiful, and so fitting! I saw Arlo and Pete in the Occupy parade, and it stirred a few tears, and more than a few memories, of those days back in the 60s.
