Aretha Franklin - Today I Sing The Blues Lyrics
Without a word of warnin'
The blues walked in this mornin'
And circled around my lonely room.
I didn't know why I had that sad 'n lonely feelin'
For yesterday this time I sang a lovesong
But today... I'm singing the blues.
Now, I know the explanation
But to me that's no consolation
No, no, it just goes to show you
No matter how you love, everybody has got to lose
And since I've lost, I'd rather walk around and woe
I guess I just walk the darkest avenue
For yesterday this time I sang a lovesong
But today... I'm singing the blues.
Now, it strikes me kinda funny how love can be this way
'Cause we were lovin' 'til last night honey, yeah.
I'm alone again today
And it strikes me kinda funny how fate can be so unfair
'Cos I seem to come right on the losin' end in every, every love affair!
Yes it must be, it must be meant for me that I should be the one,
Be the one to always lose, hooo.
For yesterday this time I sang a lovesong
But right now... I'm singing the blues.

They did not know what to do with her, so they had her sing everything. However, the CD I have with this song is a bunch of "stuff". Everything for sure, but her voice was too good for most of them. She is the best.
My body doesn't know how to feel so tears just come to my eyes...hot damn her voice is beautiful.
1000 thanks gal ^^
Amazing Aretha <3
Sang Queen.
There's a good way to overcome the death. Such thing means that if you never had met personally somebody like Aretha, then that one will never die. The talent will never die at all
This one is the single version?
Your track has lower noise floor, may I know what is the source came from? I'll considered this as (Remastered)
I think this is the best blues song I've ever heard if I'm honest. 17 though? Damn. I'm in my 30s and I can relate to this!
Aretha had endured a lot more than most at 17 yrs old. You gotta go through some to belt that that. Rest on Queen…
Mr Hurst
I was ten years old, walking out the front door headed to elementary school when this came on the radio. It was the first time I heard Aretha Franklin and this song. Little did I know it would mirror my life. Little did I know like Aretha I would be a teen-age mother of two wonderful sons.
A great blues number from her very first recording session in 1960.
I want to know who were the 5 morons that gave this a thumbs down! This is awesome!
Queen Ree had us singing the blues August 16th 2018 when she decided to leave this earth!! Rest In Soul, Queen Mother Aretha!!#longlivethequeen👑👑👑
Do anyone know of a song she sang when she basically sang that she could not be trusted, cause she would hurt the man. I only heard the song once over the last week and cannot really remember the lyrics but I do know that it had to have been one of her blues or jazz songs, please help me find this song.
Denise Griffith Is it possibly "Nobody Knows The Way I Feel This Morning"?
@J Denese Thank you, I ran across this one while searching for that song, and can I tell you I fell in Love with this the moment I heard it.
She also got married

Two people are dead inside.
One of the best recordings of Aretha. No fancy backup bands and singers. Pure Aretha.
Andrew X So So true!!
In 1960 while living in Milwaukee, my brother and I had one record and it was Aretha singing this song. We played it over and over
RIP Aretha Franklin. Thank you.
Such a beautiful voice
RIP You were a gift to the world, and it was a better place with you in it....
RIP Aretha.
For me, the greatest soul singer of them all, male or female.
Unlike others, she never faltered, shared too much or tried too hard.
When Aretha sang, she just told us how it was. And did it with incredible strength, power and absolute conviction.
She seemed not so much to sing, only open her mouth and be. And she did it from the start to the end.
Here she is in 1960 with her first studio-recorded single. Aged 17, having had two kids, she's already all Aretha … telling us how it is.
And as she often did, after having held you warm and close the whole song, she waits until the last 20 seconds to do what she will with your heart.
Makes me smile my ass-off. Such brilliance. I could listen forever.
What a lovely tribute. Aretha, Stevie and Marvin are my idols and I have loved them since childhood.
RIP Aretha Franklin. Thank you for your soul stirring music. Followed you since I first heard you on Atlantic Records in 1967,
I feel like I've lost an aunt ! Rest in Heaven Queen 😞
Rest In Peace, Aretha....

Sinto-me muito triste nesta hora, partiu a grande Diva do Soul. Ao mesmo tempo sei que ficou a sua discografia a sua VOZ e a sua personalidade. RIP. Condolências à família e como diz a sua música, "Respect". Obrigado.!! :( :( :( *****

NO ONE SURPASSES ARETHA.
One of the few Aretha recordings true to her style during her Columbia tenure. It was I believe her first release on the label. When it didn’t hit, clueless douche Mitch Miller forced her to record show tunes and pop standards in order to reach a wider (read white) audience.
And if you've ever listened to Ree's Columbia Recordings, you would know know that she could & indeed did during this tenure sing anything - from those labels of jazz, r&b, pop, blues, etc.....her "style" as you call it was endless.

Richard Peroumalle One of my favorites
Thank you for your post
Absolute queen !
more problematic than having two children as a teenager is the apparent abandonment by het mother.
Sarah Williams "apparent"
Cute mama Aretha singing the blues is so fucking sexy. Damn!
First time I heard this. Absolutely incredible.
I like her early version but she takes me to church on her later Atlantic recording of this
This is one fine song and one of my favorites by Aretha.
How on earth does a 17 year old sing the blues like this...brilliant
it's all about feeling what you feeling
ITS SOU!!.... SOUL!!.... SOUL!! ....ALL SOUL I would say!!!♥️😊
She already had 2 kids, the first at age 12 and the second at 15🙁
yes please
Before she gets deep in the song, I'm giving it a straight thumbs up
Seventeen when she recorded this and already had two kids. I think she earned the right to sing this. And today it remains (in my opinion) the best thing she's ever done.
@mrob75 God doesn't make mistakes and has to allow anything to happen in our lives. Whether you believe or not. Some 9 yrs old are raped and impregnated. I was a teen Mom and it definitely changed my life for the best. There are some adults that don't care for theirs. The comment wasn't looking to be right, it was to point out where the fire came from.
@Maida Sandoval Hi Maida. Correct, God doesn't "make mistakes" in our lives. He does grant us "free will" in our lives and then the "mistakes" or choices in our lives become our very own. Sadly, evil affects our young children, so yes I do believe that as well. I'm glad that your child changed your life for the best. But if you're a good mom, which I'll bet you are, you're not going to want your teen son or daughter to follow the choices / mistakes that you made in your teen years. I'll bet you're going to desire that your child make "wise" choices: following God's law, going to school, getting the best education possible, a beautiful career, and being an inspiration to others. That would be the real fire you're talking about.
@mrob75 indeed. He's 24 and graduated high school with honors. Has a yr and half to get bachelor's, but put on hold to work and raise his baby girl. I know the outcome isn't the same for every teen Mom, but I had to or I would've lost my life.
@mrob75 the actual fire I spoke of would be her anointing. Not everyone has that gift. Regardless of our choices, God has His chosen. We all have to be tested for our testimony. Only Jesus was perfect.
@Maida Sandoval really? And are you in that group of "chosen"?
