Aretha Franklin - Only The Lonely Lyrics
Each place I go only the lonely go
Some little small cafe
The songs I know only the lonely know
Each melody recalls a love that used to be
Of lips as warm as May
That hopeless, hopeless game that only the lonely scheme
That soon somewhere, you’ll find a love that used to care
And you recall each fun time
Those picnics at the beach when love was new
It well could be that one time
That a hopeless, a hopeless little dream like that comes true
If you find love hang on to each caress
Oh, you will know, you’ll know the loneliness
The heartbreak that only the lonely know

Aretha Franklin Only The Lonely Comments
The Columbia Records years were some of the most breathtaking and beautiful music ever made. There's nothing like a teenaged Aretha! RIP our beloved Queen
Miss Myasia her voice was breathtaking
It's just such a shame that her considerable body of work for Columbia isn't as well known or acknowledged as is her more renowned Atlantic Records recordings.
GOD BLESS ARETHA FRANKLIN
RIP Queen!!!
An incredible recording. RIP Aretha Franklin...
Underrated cover in my opinion. Aretha is the best 💖
thanks a lot for this post
This isn't Blues. This song is more or less Jazz. "Only The Lonely"
Next you'll be trying to tell me "Basin Street Blues" isn't the blues!

I purchased this album while in the military back in 1967 while overseas. I still have the album and just like then, I come to tears when listening to it on my record player. It is one hell of an album.
Wow. This is beautiful.
Her voice beautiful and her interpretation of this song is so moving.
Check also Sinatra's version. Sinatra recorded the definitive version.
.........And then you recall.....

Some of the greatest singing I've ever heard in my life. I don't know how many times I've been on the verge of tears listening to this...
Stunningly beautiful.
Sunday morning classics
As a child, I listened to Miss Aretha Franklin singing all the beautiful ballads and jazzy love songs she recorded on the Columbia Record Label. This, I believe, is the reason why I love romance and lovelace. Her voice was so pure, I fell in love with it at age 11. Her unique way of piercing you to the marrow with intense and wonderful notes is just amazing. R.I.P. Miss Franklin.
What a marvelous singer she is. This woman can move me like no other can ever do. I don't know of a style she has not covered in her long and brilliant career.
