Aretha Franklin - Going Down Slow Lyrics

I have had my fun if I never get well no more
I have had my fun if I never get well no more
All of my health is failing
Lord, I'm going down slow

I'm going down slow
Please write my father and tell him the shape I'm in
Please write my father and tell him the shape I'm in
Tell her to pray for me
Forgive me for my sin
For all of my sin

On the next train south, look for my clothes back home
On the next train south, look for my clothes back home
'Cause all of my health is failing
Lord, I'm going down slow
I'm going down slow

All of my health is failing
Lord, I'm going down slow
I'm going down slow

Feel like I'm going, like I'm going down slow
I feel like I'm going, like I'm going down slow
I feel like I'm going, like I'm going down slow
I feel like I'm going, like I'm going down slow
I feel like I'm going, like I'm going down slow

I grew up listening to Aretha and this song was always one of my favorites. I love her most soulful piano playing on this song and her heartfelt moaning. Aretha will always be "The Standard Bearer" and irreplaceable!

Sorry, but nor even Aretha can touch this blues standard...give me to St. Louis Jimmy Oden or Howlin Wolf for this tune...always!

Samantha Fish does a great job with it, too.

WOW! If they had a played this at her home going, there wldnt have been a dry eye in the Church. This is deep, oh my goodness, Aretha always' sung songs pertaining to wht she had or was going through. This hit home real hard. First time hearing this...

Good gracious, nothing but pure, creative sound! Aretha was a vocal acrobat. She is up high one minute and down the next on a note. Never predictable. And to think many online argue Celine is a better singer............ I just honestly wonder where in the world did their ears come from.

    The Queen #1

I tend to take her greatness for granted. When I revisit I'm reminded how much of a great vocalist she is. Wow

Aretha IS going down........in history as the Queen of Soul

Aretha was just 25 when she recorded this song, singing with the fervor of a stone cold blues singer with her own queen of soul twist on a blues classic from 1940.  By this time she had already experienced more than the usual 25 year-old during this era, and I think that is why she was able pack so much feeling in this song.  Viva the Queen of Soul!

I'm a huge blues fan. This track is fantastic.
