Aretha Franklin - Don't Let Me Lose This Dream Lyrics

If I lose this dream (this dream!), I don't know what I'm gonna do...
If I lose this dream (this dream!) I'm dreaming about for me and you...

If it goes away, I might as well hang it up, 'cause I don't know
If I have the heart or mind to make it true, to help it grow,
And I only know, I only know, I only know...

If I lose this dream (this dream!), it's goodbye, love and happiness, yes...
You're the one I need - I don't want a love that's second-best...

There been things all of my life I wanted to do that made me blue;
Help me hold onto this dream, for sometimes, dreams often come true,
And they'll come true, they'll come true, for me and you...

(Wait a minute, baby!)

Don't let me lose this dream!
Baby, baby, hold on!
Don't let me lose my dream!
Baby, baby, be strong!

You say that-a you believe that what I say is true (Hey, hey, hey!),
And that I'm the one and only girl for you - (Wait a minute, baby!) Just tell me...
No matter what the people say, (Hey, hey, hey!) Say that
You're in my corner all the way,
And I won't lose this dream...
Baby, baby, hold on!
Don't let me lose my steam!
Baby, baby, be strong!

Don't let me... ooh, baby;
Baby, baby, hold on!
Don't let me... oh...

This album was therapy sent from God when I was 10 yrs. old. I won the "I Never Loved A Man" album on radio station KDIA.
My dad had recently passed away and I was sad. I played the album all that summer and beyond. I choose music that
summer over playing outside with my friends. I played the album so much until it turned white and eventually
the needle slid across the album because the grooves in the record wore out.

Thank you Aretha for being my music therapist and helping me to start healing at 10 yrs. old.

My favorite song from this landmark album by Ms Franklin (true soul here) she walked the earth on this one!

    Ooooooooooooooooohhh mine too!

  15. n.... ....

When I was kid going to places like the Uptown and Apollo and State Theaters all the show female singers who opened the show always hit this as if it was a standard that had always been around. It was always mo uptempo than this although the same bossa kinda groove.
But I never heard Aretha’s version nor didn’t know all this time she wrote it. Clearly it’s her tune as she nails waaaay betta den anyone who dared even LOOK at it.

  16. y.... ....

    Rest In Peace

it feels weird to hear the original since I heard George Benson's version first time. how epic it will be if Aretha sings with that arrangement <3

  20. 1.... ....

I'm going to get killed for saying I like Livingston Taylor's version better. But there, I said it.

    1.... ....

I don't know who Livingston Taylor but I do know you must have serious hearing difficulties.

    1.... ....

123catbox... Livingston Taylor is your brother... Right?

    1.... ....

I didnt know who this livingston taylor your talking about but i check it out. Its not bad but nah aretha is right for this song. Since she wrote it her arrangement goes with the melody with back up singers more upbeat but that your opinion.

    1.... ....

    GTF out if here!

  21. l.... ....

    Bossa nova style? Great song

  22. T.... H....

The second part of the chorus is actually "Don't let me lose my strength, baby baby be strong."

  23. J.... H....

The Atlantic 'Retha is the best in my opinion

    F.... P....

@ARaspberryBeretOn I agree this song is gorgeous. I love it. I remember my dad listening to it when I was growing up I really like the title track soul serenade  also the lyrics the soulful sound of her voice when you hear it you have NO DOUBT and you know what she was singing was coming straight from the heart All that is so priceless.

    F.... P....

+ARaspberryBeretOn I grew up listening to this song and it is my favorite Aretha Franklin song.

    F.... P....

+ARaspberryBeretOn Was released as single in UK. Wonderful record!

    F.... P....

+Albert Petit Polo ....the only song I use 2play from that album,...hated moving "arm" back/forth ...lol those were the days!

  28. O.... ....

I don't think I have heard this song since the summer of 1967. There was a terrific top 40 station in Los Angeles, KRLA, that had some very adventurous programming late at night, especially on weekends. I was 14, a surfer beach kid who listened to Wolfman Jack on XERB and learned to appreciate the really off-the-format records KRLA played, like this one, although I have a fairly strong recollection of of them playing a live version of "Don't Let Me Lose The Dream." Man, what an impression this song (and so many others) left with me. I was very lucky to be born when I was - 10 years old to see the Beatles on Sullivan, 11 for "Like A Rolling Stone" and it got better and better for so many years. And thankfully I'm still able to find really good new music.

  29. C.... F....

Love Dusty's voice but clearly this one has a better feel...

    C.... F....

    Well said!

    C.... F....

'Retha wrote the song, maybe that's why

  30. B.... J....

This is perfection. Aretha at the height of her powers - her 2 sisters singing amazing harmonies that never fail to bring tears to my eyes. So hard to pick an all time best - but this is the one for me.  What is there to prefer in Dusty's version Kyaw ?

    B.... J....

I agree! Love this...grew up on it. My mom loved it and played the ENTIRE album till we knew every word! Yes indeed.

    B.... J....

    Barry Jansen

  31. D.... E....

    Prefer Dusty's version.

    D.... E....

Drive Easy Aretha Wrote this Song and sang it way better.

  32. g.... ....

i'm in love with her voice ....and this song. speaks to me

  33. M.... T....

I love this song it's right on point. Say it , Sing it Ms. Ree.

  34. l.... ....

my brother I have heard you sing at the black rep and other places in St.Louis. you have a beautiful voice.

  35. l.... ....

most definitely in my top ten favorites by the queen. brings back great memories. superb background vocals by Erma and Carolyn franklin. in fact their background vocals are out of sight on the entire album. on tracks 2 and 9 they were assisted by Cissy Houston, but they carried the load on the remaining songs. they sound like 4 women instead of just 2.

  36. T.... S....

This is the LP of hers I can never get enough of and this song, I played a hole in!! One of her best and most overlooked compositions!

  37. C.... F....

I love this entire album/CD. It played in my house all the time, we knew the words! This was a landmark project for Queen Ree!
