Aretha Franklin - Blue Holiday Lyrics

It's been a blue holiday since you've been gone
Oh my darling, won't you hurry, hurry home
It's been a blue holiday I'm all alone
You know I, I need your love to keep me warm
I cry when I hear the chapel bells ring
And sometimes I cry all through the night
Please oh please come, come back to me
And make my holiday bright
It's been a blue holiday my heart's in pain
My dear, I pray to have your love again

Blue blue blue blue blue holiday my heart's in pain
My dear, I pray to have your love again
I pray to have your love again
It's been a blue blue holiday

Love her old stuff especially; rare are transitional singers and she is full of talent. I don't think we saw all that she could do. I am spoiled by such talent and blessed to be born during her reign. Long live the queen of soul.

Songs like this show you why she's the Queen of Soul. Beautiful rendition, and that is my absolute favorite picture of her.

    Sacrée Aretha ..

I love Aretha's Columbia collection, and I love how she sings the words, blue holiday.

This is cool; I like the jazz/blues slant but I think I like the Shirelle's version best, probably because their version is the one the one I grew up listening to, the version that made me love this song. This is the first time I've heard Aretha's version and have no particular memories associated with it.

When Aretha Franklin was an upcoming Jazz artist and named at the time as "The New Queen Of The Blues".
Aretha takes the Shirelles' Doo Wop tune and gives it a bluesy late night Jazz ballad vibe.

Leave it to Aretha to put real soul to this song. Beautiful. Just Beautiful.

Just amazing. Aretha is one of those gifted singer who can take a song and just make it so soothing whether its soul/jazz/gospel/rock/opera. She's a singer who just covers it all and gives it her best. Love her voice and to this day she still works it.
