Area 11, along with many of their early songs, are directly inspired by the anime Code Geass. This song in particular is from the point of view of the character Suzaku.

And the song "Euphemia" is based on the tragedy that befell Euphemia as a direct result of Lelouch's accidental action, from episode 22 of the anime, "Blood-Stained Euphy."

I'm pretty sure in the Japanese part when he says 'Watashi', that's incorrect. 'Watashi' is used to refer to yourself if you're a female, and 'Ore' is if you're a guy. (At least I think that's how it works)

Still can't believe so many people think this song is about Lelouch.... It's about Suzaku...

*SPOILERS*:







"What is life but a burden for me" - Suzaku is at a point tired of living, but he can't end his life because of the geass Lelouch used on him.

"Patricide" - Yes, Suzaku straight up killed his father to end the war. This isn't some cryptic text about Lelouch trying to kill his own father, Suzaku straight up did it.

"She shines to me, just like glass..." - This is a quote from Lelouch when he quotes Suzaku. So it's originally the words of Suzaku. ("I think it was Suzaku that said that the shape of happiness might resemble glass. His reasoning made sense. He said that even though you don't usually notice it, its still definitely there. You merely have to change your point of view slightly, and then that glass will sparkle when it reflects the light."). "She" refers to Euphemia.

And the most promising argument "*I* watched her [Euphemia] die in your arms, zero". Suzaku directly adressing Lelouch/Zero about the murder of Euphemia.

I've been listening to these guys since they day the Yogscast started using the end of Vectors as their outro. Still never gets old. Even there new stuff is good. They should really be more popular. It's such a shame.

Pretty sure it was the old intro to Euphemia (Blackline edition). They changed Euphemia in their album version and but the intro into Vectors instead.

The album is all the lights in the sky (referring to Gurren Lagann) but there are almost as many references to Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion as there are to Gurren Lagann. So why not make a title combining references to both?

Why the hell does Area 11 not have at least a million subscribers yet? It's disgraceful that so many talentless bands nowadays (not gonna name any names xD) have so many more fans than awesome bands like Area 11! We have to find a way to help spread the word about Area 11 around YouTube without spamming or being annoying...

Ok so I went away this weekend to Edinburgh and each year for 2 weeks in July they have a festival called the fringe where any comedian, singer, director or BAND can play in one of the multiple tens they set up around the city. We went to a guy called Ruben Stone and he sold around 30+ albums at his concert! Area 11 should defiantly go there.

Sparkles* has never had proper singing training and is very nasle but atleast he's in tune. I enjoy the lyrics and honestly it wouldn't be Area 11 without them. I do see where you are coming from and I'm sure if you're a paying customer you get them to sell you the original instrumental recording. :P

Is this band only about Code Geass? If not, it would be cool to hear some music about other anime, like Death Note, Bleach, or Attack on Titan.

They have 2 songs about Code Geass, and their name is a reference to that. They also have songs inspired by Death Note, Elfen Lied, Fullmetal Alchemist, Cowboy Bebop, and Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, among others. Currently they only have 1 origin song that isn't inspired by an anime, and that's Cassandra Pt. II. Unless you count Go! Fighting Action Power, but that's the ending theme for a animated series published by a japanese company, so even that has SOME kind of connection to anime. :

So this is about Suzaku.

You are absolutely right. If you look at the lyrics there are several clear hints that it's about Suzaku:

"What is life but a burden for me" - Suzaku wanting to die but not able to due to geass.

"Patricide" - The act of murdering your own father (which Suzaku did).

The quote about glass which Suzaku used to describe happiness in a physical form.

"Well I watched her die in your arms Zero" - speaks for itself

So yah... Dunno if the other two are trolls, but they probably are.

The geass I was refering to was the "live on"-geass Lelouch cast on Suzaku :)

Oh yeah!  It's been a long time since I have watched code geass so I kind of forgot about that.  However, I think that the line we're referring to can definitely be said for both Lelouch and Suzaku.  

Patricide (murder of one's father) in this case refers to Genbu and the fact Suzaku murdered him. And "The guilt inside" refers to his shame at murdering his own father, which drives him to seek death, which is the "What is life but a burden for me" part.

Lelouch really wouldn't be bothered by Charles's death in R2, like at all given what his parents did and planned to do.

Suzaku on the other hand is haunted by his actions enough for C.C. to use them against him mentally at Narita.

"You will answer" refers to Suzaku desiring punishment for Lelouch for what he did to Euphie and countless others he used his Geass on.

"Eye to eye with a loaded mind" likely refers to Suzaku refusing to budge from his position despite the appeal of Zero's logic.

"Can a mask be the face of reason?" is most likely also in reference to Suzaku's opposition to Zero's methods.

This song and Euphemia complement eachother, Knightmare Frame is about Suzaku, given he and Kallen were the two primary pilot characters but not a single bit of language is in reference to anything Kallen did, while Euphemia is distinctly about Lelouch during the SAZ massacre.

I'm starting to like you more and more the more comments of yours I read on Area 11's videos. You're the only other person I know whose seen Code Geass and actually understands it.

Well the Knightmare/frame is the actual name of the Mechs in the series, they just started calling them Kinghtmares after the Second Gen. frames were used. Its kind of like in Fullmetal Panic! they shorten Arm Slaves to AS. And this band must really like Code Geass, because even the name of the band is in itself a reference.

The Yogscast isn't always positive... people like DaveChaos and Martyn had way better and more often content on YouTube before they joined the Yogscast, at the point you join them, you depend on a team, so basically you can be lazy and let the Head group ( Duncan, Simon, Lewis , Sips n' Sjin) do everything for you...

Yes, Code Geass is without a doubt the best anime I've ever seen... it or Steins;Gate. The fact that it's my favorite makes it all the more surprising that I didn't notice it immediately when I first heard of them.

I don't really think it's only about a scene. It might just be about the plot in general.
