Arden, Jann - It Looks Like Rain Lyrics

I flagged a taxi long before you woke
The sun had not yet risen, morning not yet broke
It looks like rain
It looks like rain

A little starling swept above my sleepy head
He plucked a single hair and took off
Laughing madly as he fled
The driver drinking brandy
Said, "Here is to the day"
It looks like rain
It looks like rain

And every breath I ever took
Every tear I ever wept
Every star I wished upon
Seemed nothing until now
Every prayer I ever said
Seemed strangely answered now
Could it be I'm in love?
Could it be I'm in love?

I made the driver park the car beside the sea
I gazed upon the fading dark
And slowly buckled at the knees
The driver drinking gladly said
"Here is to the day"
It looks like rain
It looks like rain

And every breath I ever took
Every tear I ever wept
Every star I wished upon
Seemed nothing until now
Every prayer I ever said
Seemed strangely answered now
Could it be I'm in love?
Could it be I'm in love?

    Still a perfect song

  2. AURAL FIXXATION

I already know what you're thinking if you have listened to my songs but, this "IS" one of those songs I really love. It doesn't matter what I'm doing but, when I hear the first note, it takes me to somewhere or something. There's love songs and then there's.., real love songs. Between this and "In Other Words" by Geoff Tate, there is not any other real love songs.

  3. Cirque Du Opinion

This song really tears into you after 3 or 4 Continentals

  4. C L

    My all time favorite song.

  5. Jennifer Thomson

Severely underrated song. Best Jann Arden song ever. Love.

  6. louern123

So happy to see that i'm not the only one who loves this timeless, edible song.

  7. Dennis Savage

    timeless...

  8. Rick D

this is a beautiful song. its hard tobelieve that is contemporary; it sounds as though it was written in the late 50's mid 60's to be sung in a smoke filled intimate club. but it is timeless none the less.

  9. chicsartorial

Absolutely the most EVOCATIVE song I've ever heard, not only a picture in my mind but dimensions build unitl it's real as a portentous rem dream whirlpooling me down as flotsam until I'm there and I can feel the wet and smell the fresh cleaned pavement and concrete. But I don't feel good. Only soggy, heavy, and lonely. So strange because "could it be I'm in love"... shouldn't this mean glad instead of fearful?...not really...we all know why...Because true love is often like facing death.

  10. Alban Pici

Hearing it with live effect of falling rain.Lovely!

It's not that rare. It's on her Living Under June album, which is her best selling album and is available at most major music outlets. Just FYI.

I used to listen to this song coming back from gigs miles away from home.
It was a tranquil way to wind down, but darn if it didn't always seem to sprinkle on the windshield as it played. Ironic.
Thanks for the song and vid.
