Hopefully the next album will be better than TfF. It's not a bad record and the band has every right to experiment but the ambient aspects and the lack of Holly and the others simply made it a not so stellar record for me.

I mostly agree, but I'm super happy that they are maintaining a one album a year production rate. So even if I enjoyed TfF a little bit less than I enjoyed Axiom or Restriction, I cherish those songs and the band with all my heart! 😄🙌

Opinions can be different. This is for me a way better album than Restriction, an after Axiom the second best since Controlling Crowds.
Partly because of the absence of Holly - I like it more when the men are singing. And I don't mind the ambient sound at all.

The ambient aspects are one of the best parts of the new record. When they jump back into their normal pop stuff afterward, it tends to feel jarring because of how they deal it. Holly should have had a track, but regardless, The False Foundation has one of the best openers to any Archive album ever. It's such a brilliantly effective Cold Open that it makes you immediately take notice.
My issue was more the center of the album, where despite being a concept album, the album felt like it didn't have any kind of narrative to follow between the tones of songs, which is pretty rare for an Archive album. It's still miles better than restriction which was a set of decent songs with no real connection or theme, and trying to force some kind of narrative arc. Also the concept of the album is a bit hard to grasp or get a good handle on.
I loved the aftereffect of Weight of the World/Horror, but it didn't feel to me like the album lead up to it decently.
