Arcade Fire - Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains) Lyrics
They heard me singing and they told me to stop
Quit these pretentious things and just punch the clock
These days my life, I feel it has no purpose
But late at night the feelings swim to the surface
They're calling at me, come and find your kind
Sometimes I wonder if the World's so small
That we can never get away from the sprawl
Living in the sprawl
Dead shopping malls rise like mountains beyond mountains
And there's no end in sight
I need the darkness, someone please cut the lights
We rode our bikes to the nearest park
Sat under the swings and kissed in the dark
We run away, but we don't know why
Black river, your city lights shine
They're screaming at us, we don't need your kind
Sometimes I wonder if the world's so small
That we can never get away from the sprawl
Living in the sprawl
Dead shopping malls rise like mountains beyond mountains
And there's no end in sight
I need the darkness, someone please cut the lights
They heard me singing and they told me to stop
Quit these pretentious things and just punch the clock
Sometimes I wonder if the world's so small
Can we ever get away from the sprawl?
Living in the sprawl
Dead shopping malls rise like mountains beyond mountains
And there's no end in sight
I need the darkness, someone please cut the lights
I need the darkness, someone please cut the lights

Regine's spirit is so pure and moving in this video.
Serotonine Shot !
Love you all so much! Pour keeping moivez living, breathing and moving when others could not.
aint got nowt on Bjork on her childlike manners ....just saying ;0)...
Pasan los años y me sigue fascinando de esta canción 💙💜♥️💚💛💗
I 😍Arcade Fire💖
I desperately need this in a Xavier Dolan movie ♥️♥️
Regine reminds me of Bjork (in a good way).
Pareciera que Regine disfruta mucho de interpretar esa canción en el vídeo... como cuando realmente amas lo que haces.
how free of ya spirit does this tune make you feel...
I listened to this song almost 24 hours in a row the day I downloaded it, I have until today the sequence at LastFM. Unbelievably beautiful! (2012)
from this video i learned we all need jesus christ.
Is there a version where I just watch her singing this song and dancing? if so, that would have been a great video too.
I always liked this song and thought it was a worthy coda for the tour de force that is The Suburbs, but I'd never seen this video until just now!
Regine's performance is spectacular! Her exuberance is positively infectious.
Talking Heads mood❤💫💝😘
So many memories, so innocent and confused, though I'll probably be saying the same thing about myself down the road
Terrible
Every song they make sounds the same
3:50 Sarah Lawrence gym class!
Beautiful.
1:30 to 1:44.... done
this is good honey
When I was a kid, from age 5 to around 10, I had lived in Ajax and my Uncle and Aunt lived in Montreal. So, every summer, we traveled to Montreal in the summer. I remember the drives from Ajax to Montreal in the evening on a Friday. And then I remember his house, his dogs, his cool house in Pierre Fonds. Anyway, this song makes me feel the way I felt when I was 6 or 7 and going to Montreal on a Friday summers evening along the 401. Always stopped in Napanee for Mcdonalds........
One of my favourite arcade fire songs❤️⚡❤️
muy bueno el video !
this is pretty good
Or maybe this one 🤔

Years ago I was with my ex girlfriend. We had to go to the disco and she was busy with the make-up in the bath, listening to this song. I didn't know and I asked the title. After years, I'm used to listen this yet. We broke up but I love remember that period. We were such happy and in love. Thanks for everything. ♡
I love that The Suburbs is one of the few indie rock albums that ends up with a optimistic mood ❤
Stop listening to my song
I always feel sad when watching this music video because its an extremely creative idea and filmed amazingly yet the post production is absolutely awful. all the terrible digital zooms added and the god awful color grade. I would love to get my hands on the raw footage but obviously that would never happen.
Every song on this album is my favorite song on this album. This one in particular. Man, what a fantastic album.
I want to find more this kind of songs!!!
This song is about how perfectly normal people can turn into outright retards.
Best Arcade Fire song!!
Revisiting this after some years. Her voice is damn ceautiful.
Reminds me a bit of Blondie meets Goldfrapp.
Intro sounds like Ennui by Carol Cleveland Sings!
I need the LP.
0:40 is she is jake the dog's daughter, isn't she?
One the best songs ever made love from South Africa
her voice is shrill
The footage looks genuinely old , not sure how
Great song, great album
I always come back here.
Holy Mother F#[email protected]&+g I've been listening to MGMT the shins for years and this pops up?!? WTF I don't even know how to dance and I'm getting down. This song tingles right to your spine. This will be one I listen to for life......
Weird video...fab song tho
The use of Paper in this video is such an artful metaphor. And seeing Regine break through it in a red Pheonix dress with those peg leg shoes is absolutely freeing to the soul. I love the high pitched defiant optimism of this song. 'they heard me singing and they told me to stop!'', such is life when you have the luxury of self expression through Art.
this song always moves me
Can Arcade Fire go back to sounding like this?
Her voice is so charming😍
It's amazing music
One of A F best songs - Regine is a Star - Bury Courteener
i just remembered this song
For me this was the best album of the decade.
Yeah, they put in words this feeling of mine that don't know why I feel since forever, of don't feeling comfortable "in the sprawl". I live in a small city, in an anonymous building of a working class neighbourhood. Right in front of my house is the country self: this is the very city limit. When I walk my dog I feel instantly in the countryside, in the wilderness, and I've always wondered why I feel so damn good when I cross the street to leave momentarily this so boring, mediocre city of mine. They put it in words in 2010, now I finally know
soroteca71 embrace that .. a lot of people can not
Who else is listening cuz of Stuber?
I am obsessed with this
I just discovered this song I thought it was new, definitely something ahead of its time!
I love her voice.
This whole album was fire!
Who read the book, Mountains Beyond Mountains, by Tracy Kidder
my middle school song
Does this remind anybody of Stranger Things? Those synths and the strange attire in the video makes me think of the third season particularly. Though the small town they live in probably would not be considered a sprawl.
La amo! Su voz! Su forma de actuar, es muy adorable 😍 he seguido a Arcade Fire pero hace unos momentos me entere de esta obra de arte, escalo a mis videos favoritos! Espero vengan mas canciones de Regine! 🇲🇽🇲🇽♥️
I totally LOVE ❤️🌚 this song. It shows Canada at it’s very beautiful and very best.
Who’s still listening 2020
This guy! One of the best overall records to come out in a while. Still great.
Everytime I want to be reminded of summer vibes, I listen to this.

Cody W - Montreal
This shit is so good...
Je décroche pas j'écoute une fois par jour 🍓🍓🍓🍓🍭🍭🍭🍭🍭
This song has a Kate Bush vibe that I love.
Try listening to this song in a mix with Monday Morning by Death Cab for Cutie, Under the Milky Way by The Church, Satellite by Guster and Crank by The Catherine Wheel- They make me feel haunted- in a good way.
AWESOME
Such a beautiful video. No album has gone from "okay" at release to "masterpiece" a couple of years later in my life like 'The Suburbs.' Great album.
SABIA QUE LA HABÍA ESCUCHADO EN ALGÚN LADO!!! ESTO ES ARTE!!!

Fuckin brilliant.
a true anthem
I love how the word "sprawl" is lengthened when its sung. I think its suppose to emphasize the vastness and seemingly endless cookie-cutter houses and declining shopping malls that currently 'rule' our world.
It's a reference to The Sprawl, the idea that the Wast coast of the U.S. will become one large interconnected city.
@LameStudiosInc That'd be cool! (if it wasn't all suburban style housing) I haven't heard of this idea but I know about the huge auto-dependency that much of the west coast has due mostly to sprawl
@LameStudiosInc So it has nothing to do with William Gibsons novels about The Sprawl?
@dsvederud Oh no, it's that too. But the idea of The Sprawl is more universal than you'd think.
Noone has commented how much this sounds like the Knife? Greatly underrated song, feel priviledged to have heard this live :)
Once more this song and the passion of Régine's dancing put a smile on my face. I really love this song.
Great Song! More great songs.. https://open.spotify.com/playlist/2zIAAVZ95L0C4ctzsXm5xF?si=bP3kaJZ4S2a4Y8BxwVFmQg
I thought this was going to be Ed Selegos part in the MIA video.
Wait what?! How can it be that I discovered this gem only now? I feel lucky! What an amazing song. ❤️
Still Listening years later...:)
One of my all time favorite albums. I'll always love this song.
She's too cute. I can't!
I study this song in history-geography in english (i'm french)
It's rare to come across a music video as good as the song, and vice versa.
There´s bad peopole and those who ask Regine to stop singing
This song is a day in December 2010...
From 1:32 to 1:38 what a lovely face
I can't decide if she is hot or not
actually is cute, no hot
Odd to the days when this song was a symbol of my happiness.
Man alive, Régine has presence!
Strengthening my daughters mindset through music videos
