Arc Angels - Shape I'm In Lyrics

I was down on myself both day and night
I couldn't get a thing to go just right
I was hangin' by my thumb and slippin' on my feet
I had to take a break I couldn't stand the heat
Just when I thought I could never win
I was doing pretty good for the shape I was in

I went to the movies last night again
I couldn't stay long enough to see the end
'Cause there was something going on that I couldn't see
Everybody's making out in the balcony
I was missing out on the fun again
But I'm doing pretty good for the shape I'm in

I tried so hard to get back in the race
I'd just be satisfied if I could place
There's so much competition but the best don't always win
I'm doing pretty good for the shape I'm in

I went to a party and made a few passes
One was a dream and the other was nasty
Well, I guess you know by now that I did it again
But I was doing pretty good for the shape I was in
I was down like a dollar comin' up against a yen
I was doing pretty good for the shape I'm in
Doing pretty good for the shape I was in
Doing pretty good for the shape I was in
Doing pretty good for the shape I was in

  3. V.... M....

    House work brought me here

  4. c.... t....

Maybe it was good for them to have made only one Cd. Would have been hard to follow up well. Saw them a coupla times, once outdoors in SA and once at Gruene Hall.

  5. t.... ....

I saw them at Myskins in Charleston SC . I never knew there was a video for this . I guess I did not have my MTV at the time .

  6. K.... S....

You made your decision now get the f*** out of my face

  7. t.... r....

    Real Rock n Roll !

  8. t.... r....

    Doyle and Charlie 😎👍

  9. j.... w....

    Doyles Heron days.

  10. K.... H....

I love this band, those of you that got to see them are extremely lucky. D.B2 & Charlie how about a reunion?

  11. A.... K....

Pretty GOOD Marc Benno song :>)

  12. T.... K....

Instantly I feel great when listening. It's simple rock n roll. Can't explain it but it's great.

  13. B.... L....

I miss these men so much

  14. G.... C....

Discovered this on Mark Kerr's "Blues Nation" podcast - great old rocker!

  15. M.... A....

From 1968 until today whenever I hear Clapton play I immediately feel better. If I were a younger guitar player I would want a Clapton guitar solo on my album. Memories are my most precious possession.

  16. D.... F....

Great band, great album. The only problem was that Doyle wasn't doing pretty good for the shape he was in. The good part is, he finally got clean and continued to play great music to this day. Charlie Sexton... well nobody knows where he is today. But it was great while it lasted. I was fortunate enough to actually see them in 1992, before what could have been fell apart.

    D.... F....

Dan Ferguson, Charlie has been the lead guitarist in Bob Dylan's band for the last several years, while Doyle plays in Eric Clapton's band. They still do Arc Angels reunion shows fairly regularly.

  17. R.... P....

Love em too but I heard DBII in an interview saying we fell into the stupidest r n r cliché; **Hey let's become drug addicts n be really cool n original** n I'm so glad they all made it out alive but that shit was funny.

  18. M.... M....

saw them in 1992 at the bon ton room in Houston.  standing less than a foot away from them.  2nd best concert ever... 1st being SRV of course... Love the Arc Angels!!  It's too bad they were only around a couple of years.

    M.... M....

Its too bad doyle wasnt a couple years older in those days..

  19. L.... N....

So much talent in Arc Angels! Want more Doyle Bramhall? Check out this throwback interview with Doyle from 2001: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-lCtdBfL3jE&t=6s

  20. A.... P....

I saw them here in Toronto many years ago....I remember it being pretty good for the shape I was in!

    A.... P....

Saw them in Kitchener Ontario, at LuLu's Roadhouse in 1993. Just an incredible band, and incredible show !!!Too bad Doyle went to rehab and ended the band. Glad he got help though, and I got to see him later, touring with Clapton, and I saw Charlie tour with Bowie, and Dylan.

  21. g.... v....

Could definitely hear SRV do this

  22. M.... R....

    NIIIIICE

  23. M.... S....

Doyle I know what is is to be addicted.. daily inventory involved to stay connected

  24. D.... T....

I remember liking Arc Angels but I have totally forgot Double Trouble was the rhythm section!!! Getting old sucks!

  25. R.... C....

    B.... B....

    +Brian Butts CHURCH!

    B.... B....

HTH do pop-ups' ruin your 'listening'? Watching, maybe. LOL

    B.... B....

Some peeps just HAVE to cuss to express how moronic they can be.

  28. J.... J....

Doyle Bramhall ll, Charlie Sexton and Double Trouble on rhythm section…

    J.... J....

    Jole blo

  29. n.... ....

Charlie was the better guitarist until his motorcycle accident, which badly damaged his wrist and forced him to change his playing style. His guitar work on "Pictures for Pleasure" (at age 16) is superior to DBII. That being said, DBII is an awesome guitarist with a style and sound all his own.

    n.... ....

@jimmy smith Hardly positive. You're being an agressive d!ick nitpickin' on the mans' every word. You may get the last word but not a verbal tug of war from me. Looks like it's what you desire.

    n.... ....

+nemesis6667002 superior? there's no such thing in blues music!

    n.... ....

+Leonardoo69 So it is your opinion that any blues guitarist is just as good as Stevie Ray Vaughan or Eric Clapton? That is preposterous.

    n.... ....

@nemesis6667002 No, you got it all wrong. Theres no reason to compare two guitar players and choose a winner based only in your personal and narrow vision of them. Search for illusory superiority if you wanna know more about this!

    n.... ....

+Leonardoo69 I refuse to engage in a battle of wits with an unarmed individual.

  30. M.... v....

    Impossibly good.

  31. e.... ....

There is no one like DBII...

    e.... ....

@***** did you ever see them live? i did back then and doyle played all the lead. charlie played rhythm.

    e.... ....

    @*****
fact is both can kick it..seen both many times. Doyle and Charlie both killer

  32. r.... f....

    That kicks ass!!

  33. b.... ....

To all the hater comments here....if you don't recognise Double Trouble here on bass and drums, WTF do YOU know? Shut your mouth. D T had a LOT to do with SRV's sound, don't you think? I love Stevie V, and Jimmy V, but give credit where it's due. Doyle and Charlie are POWerful players. :-)

    b.... ....

blademon7 archangels ,! One and done album, Was one of the best collaborations between two great guitarist and double trouble right after Stevie Ray Vaughan’s accident

    b.... ....

    Srv s bros

  34. B.... ....

This tune gets my vote for the closest anyone ever got to ripping off Stevie Ray without actually playing one of his songs. The guitar tone is WAY too close, and the singer is only a shade or two off... A little sad... At least it took TWO guitars to recreate Stevies sound, hehehe.

  35. R.... R....

I've had the album for many years now and it gets a regular blast all the time (I own thousands of CD's btw, so it's gotta be good for me to do that) if anyone has any info if these guys did other projects please let me know.

    R.... R....

interesting... i love the album to bits so no matter how rare it gets i'll never sell it. after reading your reply i had to blast it out and it's just too good for words to describe. some bands have to do 3 to 4 albums before releasing a classic, these guys did it with just one. makes em legendary in my book!

  36. M.... B....

I would also suggest checking out Doyle's version from ACL in 1999. I see the link to it on this page....

  37. S.... T....

    !!!!!!!!!!!!!

  38. B.... D....

I loved this album wish they continued.

  39. b.... ....

Arc Angels self-titled debut album is one of the best albums ever. Period!!!

  40. c.... ....

hey man my grandfather is that old dude with the hat,my grampa is pretty cool,he still rocks till he drops ,and then someone has to pick him up

  41. t.... ....

Doyle Bramhall II is the guitar plyaer in this clip in the cow hide clothes. His Father Doyle Bramhall was a drummer and shared some songwriting duties with and wrote for SRV. SRV's keyboard player was Reece Wynans. Charlie Sexton has been band leader for Bob Dylans touring band on off for a few years. There were no slouches in the Arc Angels.

  42. J.... P....

sounds like a bad fabulous thunderbirds song. whatever. charlie sexton is a choad. the hendrix of our generation? i want some of what you are smokin dude.

  43. M.... E....

    Awesome!

  44. T.... H....

Who is the brain-donor that called them a "Cheesy Blues Band"? This album was one of the best debuts in recent memories. "Too many ways to fall" is an underplayed classic/ And if you've ever heard "See what tomorrow brings"-that's a timeless tune written about Stevie Ray.

    T.... H....

doyle is a classic as was his father though different genres

  45. M.... B....

wrong Doyle. Doyle I died. this is Doyle II.

  46. J.... G....

I'm doing better since this song got played.

  47. B.... R....

Ya gotta wonder what kind of world this is when this band gets only 63,779+ views...
DBII & Charlie Sexton, the "Everly Brothers" of Blues/Rock. They just BELONG together.
    That's a COMPLIMENT kids...BR

  48. T.... K....

    Amen brother!

  49. R.... L....

    THIS is the shit !!!

  50. L.... ....

I love this song but OMG I LOL every time I see this because Doyle looks like a Texas cattle baron meets a pimp with that outfit! ;-) What a cool song though!

  51. R.... ....

Sexton rules---the rest, dipshit texans cashing in....

  52. S.... ....

He's been clean for quite sometime but this is what broke up the band. DB II's girlfriend at the time even wrote a song about it.....

  53. S.... ....

They stopped because DB II got hooked on Heroin.

    S.... ....

SteveGaines Shit happens. He is clean now.

  54. C.... F....

@jammyjoyful saw them in concert like 91
    worth it way worth it

  55. W.... ....

    Brill song!!!

  56. a.... ....

Dig the song. Bramhall's got some good vocals. Being surrounded by a bunch of other great Texas musicians certainly doesn't hurt either. The cd is loaded with good tunes. Even though they look happy in the video, Layton and Shannon were probably still not over the shock of Stevie Ray leaving us. It was only a year before this.

  57. d.... ....

Doyle wins the prize for best rock & roll jacket and hat combo of all time!!

  58. l.... ....

well yea .. exactly.. doin pretty good here .. how bout yall?

  59. J.... R....

    The House is Rocking !!!!!

  60. T.... K....

Charlie Sexton is still hot as FUCK here!!!

  61. M.... B....

@coloradoskiergolfer If you did not see it on Austin City Limits, try to find the Double Trouble special. They all appeared, plus some guests. The Double Trouble album is wonderful.

  62. S.... O....

Too bad they only put out the one album. I wonder how many other groups have been ruined by herion? I saw these guy at The Steamboat in Austin forever ago...standing room only and they were smokin!!! I do like the Charlie Sexton Sextet but the Arc Angels were AWSOME!!!

  63. e.... ....

ARC Angels are AWESOME!!! Gooooooosh!!! Can't say it enough.... :)))

  64. M.... S....

man these guys really are a blast

  65. M.... B....

    Awesome !

  66. D.... D....
