April Wine - Weeping Widow Lyrics

Weeping widow, don't you cry
Dressed in black, I don't know why
All the time that you've been waiting
You should feel like celebrating

He'll make you free as a bird in the sky
Free as a bird in the sky
Look out stranger, here comes danger
Don't let it look you in the eye, boy
You better take care, you know you've got to beware
Don't let it look you in the eye, boy, weeping widow

Weeping widow, spend your leisure
In you castle full of pleasure
When his spirit comes to haunt you
In your chamber, he will taunt you

He'll make you free as a bird in the sky
Free as a bird in the sky
Look out stranger, here comes danger
Don't let it look you in the eye, boy
You better take care, you know you've got to beware
Don't let it look you in the eye, boy, weeping widow

Weeping widow, don't you cry
Dressed in black, I don't know why
All the time that you've been waiting
You should feel like celebrating

Weeping widow, you gotta run
Weeping widow, you better see what's in store
Weeping widow, you better run

    nice shiney git

americans dont even know, they have never heard it. some had jobs which required driving through windsor or niagara falls up to and through toronto. imagine just being american, listening to american rock and british invasion shit and then you have to pick up some lumber from timmins and you get 3 hours of Q107 on your way in and 3 hours on your way back. You hear sounds that nobody you know have ever heard. that you've never heard. that you may never hear again.

  3. D.... ....

killer badass song, also is it just me or does parts of this song sound like Styx's "Midnight Ride" (which came out in late 1975)?

  15. B.... ....

Doesn't sound like typical April  Wine    singer sounds differant

    B.... ....

BikeRidinManiac Yup. Most of their commercial stuff was just for the money. They played their real music at the concerts

    B.... ....

This is Jim Clench singing, he was also the bassist. He sang many songs, but the majority were sung by Myles Goodwyn. Sadly, Jim Clench passed away a few years ago.

Actually i believe it was their 3rd album. Quite the quantum leap from their previous one "ON RECORD". Electric Jewels is a personal favorite and under appreciated imo.

I was very fortunate to meet and eventually friend Jimi.. RIP my dear Brother.

  32. d.... h....

I first saw them in 1970, at my high school's Christmas dance. They released their first album shortly after. I've seen them a few times since then. Last time was 15 years ago. If they do another tour, I may go see them one last time. I know they'll do this tune, and I know 95% of the people there won't recognize the intro.

  33. G.... L....

Sounded awesome in my '71 Chevy Nova SS with killer 8 track and big bass rear deck and door speakers.

  43. b.... s....

this is the best canadian band i ever heard

  44. O.... ....

I think that he, she, or it, was going on with some sort of whacked out conspiracy theory that had nothing to do with April Wine or even music, then started comparing A.W to Kanye West.

  45. O.... ....

No, it only seems that way because you can no longer read the comment of the idiot I was responding to, sort of like listening in on someone talking on the telephone and trying to figure out what they are talking about.

  46. D.... B....

a true rendition of this most classic song. top 10 all time. and they are Canucks!

  47. J.... H....

  57. w.... ....

oh my,, when i was in the old horton school in greenwich,novascotia,year1974.

  58. O.... ....

Really? I thought WW2 started after Nazi Germany and Militarist Japan both decided to conquer the world? Don't even mention Kayne West in the same breath as Pink Floyd, April Wine, Led Zeppelin, or even the Bay City Rollers, he's a narcissistic dickwad who will be joining M.C Hammer, Dee Schneider, and the New Kids on the Block, one day in the hall of forgotten celebrities.

  59. n.... ....

So sorry to hear he passed still so young. Really liked him when in the band, in fact I think he added a more harder rock to it with some of the songs he wrote. Always loved this band, saw them a lot early 70's.Saw them again 2 yrs ago. What a funny feeling. They were joking about how old we all were now including themselves.People in audience could hardly clap. Like there's getting older. That was plain rediculous. Dead before their time. I could have got up and danced like we did yrs ago!

  60. D.... D....

    R.I.P. Jim Clench. 1949-2010

  61. D.... B....

great work Penguin. you gave life, and filled in the blanks, to this video-less great rock Anthem. Awesome Rock n Roll.

  62. M.... M....

never said I was 22 years old - lets just say they played at my high school in the EARLY 70's before 1976

  63. U.... ....

Thank you for the corrections, no thank you for the snarky attitude.

  64. c.... ....

Yeah, I noticed it back in 1971......

  65. c.... ....

"Myles" should have had plenty of lungs left after this song. It was sung by Jim Clench.

  66. T.... ....

More cowbell! Somebody had to say it. Great song!

  67. 1.... ....

    Very GOOD piece of rock!!!!!!!!

  68. U.... ....

Back when bands used to know how to play their instruments, write songs, and ROCK.

I'm surprised Miles had any lungs left after that one.

  69. M.... M....

oh man high school - they played at my high school and I remember not wanting to go but one of my friends said to go because other wise I would sit at home on a saturday nite - wow good advice

  70. L.... B....

That outro solo, was just audible enough to make me drop my guitar, that was way ahead of it's time I didn't even think shredding was invented until the 80's

  71. t.... ....

Shame on Corporate Classic Rock stations for not playing stuff like this, I ONLY got onto this one from Limewire

  72. u.... ....

  76. p.... c....

seeing them in concert for free tonight in moncton, happy canada day!

  77. O.... ....

@theotherlondonrevue I think Saga almost disgraces heavy metal myself, it's some of the most boring metal I have ever heard, it isn't the worst but the stuff is pretty forgettable.

  78. I.... M....

I photographed April WIne in the 70's in Calgary. To see the shots go to ianmarkmusicphotos (.com)

  79. s.... ....

I saw them several times and they shook the whole arena every time. I all ways have and all ways will love april wine

  80. L.... U....

saw April Wine last night in concert--was awesome.

  81. m.... m....

@heyman29323 I didn't mean they recorded this song that night. But just that they recorded that night I think.

  82. m.... m....

@cypresscoach Wow, did you go to QEH in Halifax. I think that was where they went to school and I believe they recorded there that night but I'm not sure about that. I was ten when they were really big. But you must've been in high school in '70 or '71 when they played QEH. I wa born in '68 so too young for that. But I always knew about this concert (if this is what you're talking about) and wondered what it would've been like to see one of their first great performances.

  83. m.... m....

See here in Canada every single was probably a top 10 hit. And they had, I'm guessing at least 30 - and we thought they were just as popular in America. And I'm just starting to realize maybe they had 3 hits in America at best. That blows my mind. That's like someone hearing in America that Bruce Springsteen or the Eagles anyone with a lot hits were not popular anywheres else. But even worse. Because it's perceived if you didn't make it America you didn't make it. And it's kind of true.

  84. S.... P....

Classic Rock is so much better than todays pathetic excuse of music! What is rap suddosed to be? An imitation of a hippo diying in a tar pit? I wish more people relised that classics like this are AWESOME!!!!! ROCK ON APRIL WINE! Only Canada could create this! Only April Wine could make it Better!!!!!!

  85. b.... ....

    once again, thank you.

  86. 9.... ....

@nemtall Rap is to music what etcha sketch is to art.

  87. n.... ....

    Rap sucks so bad .

  88. S.... ....

@Impul23 and Rap.. all of it totally sucks!

  89. C.... M....

Yes Jim. You were the best. AW rose to prominence in your guard. RIP comrade...

And of course 1970s rock like April Wine, Trooper, Harlequin, Prism... way too many to name!

  99. g.... ....
