I found a cover of this song (edit: by avicii ) when I was younger and loved how the intense sonic elements matched with the plea of the lyrics throughout that version. now that I'm older I'm glad I've found this one. the way it ends with such a build up is almost dizzying. I'm not trying to pit the two together or anything, I'm merely saying this song has suited me well for some time, and in two different ways.

Im 61...in 2013 I 2as divorced after 31 years, 5 kids and forgave my husband 4 times that he slept w girlfriends...that was b4 we both got clean and we changed. Guess he wanted a younger model, he married a woman 16 yrs younger than me within months...dated her less than a year.. he d her 3rd husband....they live in the house we bought...yeah ..i know. In 2014, 4-2014, Easter Sunday, my then boyfriend beat me in the head while driving at 40 mph, causing me to accelerate to 70 and go into oncomming lane, which i straightened out only to be hit again and go way off the road, thru a fence and roll; I have residual complications from the head injury that resulted. I felt secure in my marriage untill i didnt...and after divorce and the violence from my ex boyfriend and PTSD, fear and cPTSD gripped my life. The lyrics describe how I feel and began feeling living alone. Siince my accident and T.B.I.. 5 1/2 years ago, I have not dated, been afraid to...mostly coz i dont really know how to. I just heard this song, and im crying because it speaks to a place in me ii try to avoid, yet cant. Im thinking I should at least joiin some intrest group or a class if some kind, or community theater, volunteeer somewhere so I can meet older ppl and maybe strike up intrest and actually consider dating...not so i can "find him", but to get past my fears and , well, maybbe meet someone who can make me laff and have interesting things to say besides blatant sexual innuendo all the time...really at my age its not that I dont want or miss sex...its just someone like me wasnt into "sport f@$king in my 20's, not gonna start that now...p.s.-men...esp. younger...when you compliment a women oldeer than you...NEVER end with. ."for your age!" A simple You look great/sexy/fit/hot- etc is all we should hear ... not ...for your age. thanks...peAce

A lot of commenting on this seems people associate this song with death. I don’t at all. For me this speaks of loneliness and depression. I empathise immensely with the lyrics. I’m relatively young (30) and longtime single, to me it speaks of that fear or being alone the rest of your life. It’s quite a beautiful song if incredibly tragic.

14 years on and still as powerful as ever..

So intense.

Last year, i was really sick. Necrotizing fasciitis on my left leg. They urgently made some surgeries. But it wasn't over yet. They started intravenous antibiotics to stop the spreading. I remember the doctor speak out these words : "if the antibiotics doesn't stop the spreading in a day of two, you'll most likely die".
I was listening to this song day and night. I didn't knew i was gonna make it or not... But i made it. I really saw the man in the horizon. I saw him clearly. He spared me tho...
