I'm Muslim and I'm American, born and raised in NYC, child of immigrants. Anti-flag is my favorite punk band ever!!! The Clash of our generation, y'allz, and Islam is one of my favorite things/ guides ever! Sorry can't do that Dawoud. It has helped me through so much and I like punk and Islam for the same reasons: They care about people and goodness! @ Hassan, I stand with you! Peace to all!

With that said, i hate dogma whoever it comes from atheist or muslim or anyone else. Be careful about regurgitating words before you have processed it yourself! Don't let other people do your thinking for you! Unless, you actually sit down and study religion you won't realize what it's really trying to say. after decade(s) of study, if i have to sum up religion, what is it but self-improvement and trying to help others? And I try to emulate that in my everyday life! You might not like it, but Islam has had a positive influence in my life and helps me to produce positive actions. I mean the extent to which Islam *obliges* me to do good in my own capacity (i know that's vague: so charity, trying to be respectable towards people, trying to make people's lives easier, trying to make the world better especially where I am capable, holding my own damn self accountable, even when I'm lazy), I gotta give it credit. But I don't believe in forcibly proselytizing and shit, even the Quran says "There is no compulsion in religion." And I really respect it for so many more reasons! <3 I don't have an on-call mentor I can check in with on so many issues, Islam has been mine, you know.
