Anthrax - Anthem Lyrics
Know your place in life is where you want to be
Don't let them tell you that you owe it all to me
You keep on looking forward...no use in looking 'round
Hold your head above the ground and they won't bring you down
A funeral dirge for eyes gone blind
Yes we marvel after those who sought
The wonders of the world, wonders of the world
Wonders of the world they wrought
Live for yourself...there's no one else
More worth living for
And begging hands and bleeding hearts will only cry out for more
Anthem of the heart and anthem of the mind
Yes we marvel after those who sought
The wonders of the world, world they wrought
[Solo]
Well, I know they've always told you
Selfishness was wrong
Yet it was for me, not you, I came to write this song
Anthem of the heart and anthem of the mind
A funeral dirge for eyes gone blind
Yes we marvel after those who sought
The wonders of the world, world they wrought
Wrought
Wrought

Anthrax Anthem Comments
Not too shabby.
ainda bem que existem boas bandas como anthrax,e Rush jamais deixará de existir
An example of Neil Peart's underappreciated songwriting skills, R.I.P. Neil Peart
Jebus Christ Neil Peart stands alone
Rip neil
If John Galt comes to the boogaloo, he is gonna bring the Killa Riff!
This is fucking Awesome
charlie berdante think he got the horsepower to do a fake ass neil port. get the fuck back in your damn lane you ugly mf
anthrax get back in your damn lane
fred bello gettin a little out of his lane trying to rip off a rush cut.
RESPECT....You can’t cover Rush to sound like Rush! Not possible......but they did this song justice, and they did it as a fan of the band!
What voice...!!!
Apparently I'm not alone as a die hard Rush fan who thinks this cover is awesome. Love it.
I didn't think Joey could match Geddy's inflections, depth and range of vocals in this song but he did awesome!
dang that's really at the top of joey's range, but he pulls it off well
This song claps
that was not bad!
Perfect!
Love it!!!
I love the ‘Passage to Bangkok’ cowbells at the end too ;)
This is one badass cover they do. Love it. Right on
🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
Fuckin' eh! You guys totally nail this! And Joey... your pipes haven't diminished in all these years! Great job!
Musically well done, but the words are fucked up .
This is flawless on Belladonna's part. Absolutely incredible.
Frankie Bello playing Geddy Lee's bassline... two personal heros of mine in one recording, this is unreal <3
Not bad at all
This is really good on all points.
Geddy, Alex and Neil would be proud of this cover!
Nicely done.
good cover, but they really couldn't learn the riff from the intro well enough to play the notes in order? also, the drummer is constantly lagging. this is not a difficult song to play, relative to many other rush songs
Belladonna's range is totally suited to this song!
One of my favorite rush songs.
I appreciate the effort, but you can't cover rush. Even pros for 40 years such as yourselves can't. They are rush, any cover is embarrassing. The only band who's songs can't be played let alone improved by anyone
total nonsense! a cover is made to make tribute to a band, not to say "we're better"
This was the toughest song on the album to get right. Well of course, it's Rush.
this is a cool cover. I like the cover of Sabbath Bloody Sabbath Anthrax did years ago, i think it was a B side
To slow from the original. vocal has to much effects.
Anthrax in 7/8 bravo
最高❗超クール
What ^ he said
OMG - died & gone to heaven!
Cool to see such a different band covering rush! So great
Sounds like Bruce Dickinson.
Fucking killer song and a KILLER cover!
Awesome it just goes to show how great of musicians Anthrax are!!!!
wow they captured it!!!
one of the best songs of rock history ,played well by Anthrax - but none can catch the artisty of Rush
Tempo drags in a few parts.
3:35 Did someone's cell phone chime?
it is a nod to the "All the worlds a stage" recording where Neil threw in some cowbells. that is what you heard.
Gotta respect any band that covers the Holy Trinity. Nicely done.
+Mark A. McConaghy i love how it still totally sounds like Anthrax too!
Its a RUSH cover
Mark A. McConaghy this smokin hot
Anthrax should cover Angel Witch's song "Angel Witch." They'd do it justice.
Instantly dirtier, only Geddy can do Geddy Vocals and now geddy cant even do Geddy Vocals lol
I disagree. Saw them on their last tour and Geddy is just as good now as he ever was.
Yea I saw them at R40, Geddy is nowhere near where he was in the 70's and 80's.
In Alex's own words "we've gone from sounding like a crappy Rush cover band to just a bad Rush cover band"
@Juws
That's just Alex's typical humor, and humility showing, nothing more. He and well as the entire band always had said that kind of thing.
Anthrax pulls off yet one more awesome cover!!!
Hell yea they are awesome!!!
Fuck bush! He sucked and the only success this band ever really had was with joey. For those who dont like joey you suck!
The vocals actually go really well with this song. Except for the screamy bits...they sounded a bit wonky lol
I like this, but it's also five people doing what was originally done by three. Would be interesting to hear a version with Frank Bello doing bass and vocal duties.
Now Rush needs to do Caught In A Mosh!!
Oh. My. God...They HAVE to do that xD
That would be interesting.
Great Jam Guys! Nailed it!
Love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Really fucking cool dudes!
I heard some Geddy here, you guys nailed this cover to the wall, great job!
Sorry Vocals are just annoying at best (Far to Iron Maiden ' esk) For RUSH ~ The Band as a whole Is Amazing (Guitar is perfect A ++ compliment) Vocals (Sorry You Picked a King to imitate) When merely a Pawn ! Towards the end it's just to hard to hang (Terrible vocals) But Respect for the attempt ...
Very good cover Rush's Anthem by Anthrax this is rare most Rush covers are awful the Sacirifice cover sucks
I like it better than the original without Lee's voice. just my useless opinion
and useless it is
Here's 4 cents back for your two.
This doesn't hold a candle to the original
Metal is an acquired taste too. I don't really dislike Anthrax but there's other metal bands I like better.
Well, the vocals were kinda screechy and didn't really flow with the music, like Geddy's in the ATWAS or Different Stages disc 3. But Geddy has a hard voice to cover, and even Bruce Dickinson sometimes changes the pacing of the lyrics on live albums. And most importantly of all, *I* certainly couldn't do as well!
@straussenei1 Metal has nothing to do with rock? HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!
Great version but Rush played this 10 seconds faster in the '70's, I would have expected Anthrax to up the tempo.
thrash for the win!! \m/ but yea, those classical rockbands are awesome too!
I'm liking these covers. Classic rock songs being brought back to life.
Couldn't have said it better myself!
Simply great.
Love it.

I'm a huge fan of both Anthrax and Rush. Anthrax do a brilliant job on this song! I always knew what talented musicians the band are but this just nails that opinion in even further.
Very cool, had no idea Anthrax were Rush fans. Very cool to hear the song slowed down just a bit. Masterful recreation on the drum part and guitar solo. Appreciated the closing notes of Passage to Bangkok
I had never noticed those closing notes. Thanks for pointing them out.
Ther are a TON of rock bands who are rush fans.
Alexander Glass every great professional musician loves rush. They are the best musicians. Ask anthrax they will admit it
can't stop listening to this. huge Rush fan. This is super good same song just even heavier!! Belladonna kicks ass here. great guitar what's not to like.
damn anthrax call it quits already, or atleast just stick to playing originals rather than playing covers.
Rush fan for over 30 years. Very cool version of a classic! Thumbs up
Haven't enjoyed anything from Anthrax since their first few albums, but I've liked what I've heard so far.
I like Geddy Lee, but saying he was a good singer in the 70s would just be a lie ín my opinion. Same about Neil Turbin. Both were totally squeaky, Joey is my favourite vocalist ever, he did this better than Geddy Lee in my opinion. And even though Neil Turbin is more similar to Geddy, he could not have done that.
Sorry but you're wrong. Heavy Metal is just an even heavier form of hard rock. Why do you think many heavy metal bands have songs that alude to their heavy metal roots like Sabbath (Rock n' Roll Doctor), Dio (King of Rock n' Roll) and Motorhead (the song Rock n' Roll)?
The Anthrax Anthem ep is the best thing they have EVER do in their career.
RUSH-BOSTON-JOURNEY covers are simply GREAT!!!!
Anthrax should STOP making boring thrash metal music and soon commence to create ROCK MUSIC since they really shine in this genre!
A better thing they could do is correct your grammar.
Not a big anthrax fan but WOW they hit this one love it.
my respect for Belladona ... man!!! ... his sooo goddam good singer!!
Rush with a Touch of Metal ... I Like it... I Like this shit!! ... Damn y sooo good!!!
yeah, text about the philosophy of Ayn Rand
Wow! Not a huge fan of Anthrax ,but this very well done . Props.
rock is rock and metal is metal. metal music has its own subgenres as well as rock. if you say rock is a general term for music that uses electric instruments and drums you say that blues soul and funk are also rock. but thats not the case. And also Metal has nothing to do with Rock.
Also this is no where near to Thrash, this is rock, Anthrax original music is Thrash Metal
I have a new appreciation for Anthrax.
Rush's influences include members from Iron Maiden, Anthrax, Pantera, Metallica, Dream Theater, Skid Row, Soundgarden, Rage Against The Machine, Tool, Primus, Nine Inch Nails, Foo Fighters, Smashing Pumpkins, Death Cab For Cutie etc.
Wow! How much people did Rush influence?
Thank you for the compliment!
JOEY BELLADONNA
Thrash Metal is a subgenre of Heavy Metal, which is a genre of Rock and Roll. Therefore, this is Rock Music.
Rock is a general term for music that uses electric guitar, drums, electric bass guitar, piano, keyboards, and other such instruments in a combined setting alongside vocals. Metal/Heavy Metal is just a genre of it. There is Hard Rock, Punk Rock, etc, and softer forms of Rock, such as Blues Rock, Jazz Rock, Southern Rock, Psychedelic/Acid Rock, and Soft Rock. Therefore, Heavy Metal is a Genre of Rock and Roll, but it isn't what Rock and Roll was/is.
No, rock is not metal, maybe in the beginning metal could have been rock, but, metal has spread so far away from rock it is its own entity now. Common mistake though, nothing to get bent out of shape over, Cheers!!
I think Among the living is better, but I like spreading more. Joey sings better and It's way more melodic. And yes: Both kick ass! \m/
Spreading the disease definitely ranks right up there with Among the Living. Be hard to pick which one I like better from those two. Both kick major ass!!
Holy Shit, what a cover. Sounds just like Geddy singing.
Unmelodic? Did you ever listen to an album called... Spreading the Disease?
No band can cover songs better than Anthrax! \m/
I thought rock was generic term to describe all forms of music that derived from it. Obviously, blues is very different from rock in general because it evolved over many years to become its own genre. I was to understand "rock" was an overall term for everything that derived from rock.
