Anne Murray - Daydream Believer Lyrics

Oh I could hide 'neath the wings of the blue bird as she sings
The six o'clock alarm would never ring
But it rings and we rise wipe the sleep out of our eyes
The shaving razor's cold and it stings.

[CHORUS:]
Cheer up sleepy Jean Oh what can it mean
To a daydream believer and a homecoming queen.

I once thought of you as a white knight on a steed
Now you know how happy we can be.
Oh when our good times started then
Not a dollar one to spend
But how much baby do we really need

  1. E.... J....

    Sweet lovely voice! Great song.

  2. R.... P....

    John Stewart wrote this song.

  3. F.... L....

    Listening in 2019!

I laugh at the way the Monkees version sounds. Sounds like a cartoon character singing it. Anne Murray's version is more upbeat and danceable.

For me, the difference between this version and the original is that Anne Murray moves me, the original does not.

  7. P.... G....

She had such an exquisite voice.

  8. h.... y....

I grew up with this version and like it better than the Monkees. I like her voice, her overdubbed harmonies, the bass, and the trumpet part after she sings "Cheer up sleepy Jean"😆

  9. T.... ....

I listen to these and they give me great memories of my grandma!!!!! I can still sing along to ALLLLLLL of them!!!!

  10. F.... ....

not as good as the Monkees version

  11. G.... W....

This is my oersonal song. Whenever I would hear it on the radio, regardless of who the singer was, I knew that something special and good would happen to me in a day or so. And it defied coincidence by happening, every time.
Unfortunately, it doesn't work unless someone else happens to play it on the radio at random.
The song is old enough now that it is not given on air play time any more.

  12. s.... j....

Remember hearing this on BBC Radio 2 when they played a better quality of music.

  13. J.... E....

I think we are fortunate to have both Davy & Anne to sing this lovely song for us .

  14. B.... F....

No comparison, Ann Murray is way better then the Davey Jones version.

  15. J.... K....

    Anne Murray...perfect voice.

  16. K.... D....

    what a beautiful voice

  17. R.... B....

anne murray' intpretation came from country

  18. d.... ....

LOL..I am 54..and I just 'found' the 'Monkees' version of this!...and it is awesome! But, this is the one that recalls my youth...and Anne's rendition is so rich and mature!..I love both..

  19. M.... 3....

    copy of the monkees

  20. b.... ....

This reminds me of all those late-night poker parties at Auntie Bobo and Uncle Lester's house. After a few jugs of Gallo were added to the pile on the back porch Bobo would kick it up a notch with some "Anne Murray"

  21. K.... H....

    I like Davy Jones better

  22. J.... D....

    Maravilha........

  23. l.... c....

It's aight. Beautiful melody so you can't go wrong but I'm not big on covers that basically replicate the original hit. The ones that knock it out of the park are covers that the artist totally makes their own. Notable examples include: "Woodstock" by CSN, "Mr. Tambourine Man" by the Byrds and "All Along the Watchtower" by Jimi Hendrix.

    l.... c....

I 💘 LOVE Mr. Tambourine Man by the Byrds!

    l.... c....

Matter of opinion! CSN ruined the great melody that Joni wrote when they covered "Woodstock."

    l.... c....

Hurt. Cash's version is the best by far. I like Anne's voice more than Davey's but both have their charm. Gun to my head? Monkees.

  24. S.... L....

I never understood that saying "haters gotta Hate"; It implies that they have no choice, and therefore you MUST accept them as is. I grew up in the same provice she did. I can't say I ever liked or hated her-but she's ok. I just get pissed when she talks about Nova Scotia from her Florida condo. She either needs to move back here or keep opinions to herself!

    S.... L....

LOL--Nova Scotia sounds cold af. And what is happening there? I am sure there is beautiful scenery but Floriduh has a lot going on. I am so perplexed by those from Canaduh resentful of the USA.

    S.... L....

Nova Scotia is post card country. I have never been resentful of the USA. In fact I'd rather live there.

    S.... L....

I a not resentful of the USA, in fact I'd like to live there

    S.... L....

Scott Lynch...I understand what you mean..but when we live in flyover country...we have to accept that those from our regions will migrate to where the opportunities are...but as a USAer..Florida?..nothing but heat, humidity, hurricanes and mosquitoes!

  25. c.... e....

The best version of this song.

    c.... e....

nope, Monkees is the best version, it's the original

    c.... e....

@Finnegan The original is not always the best version.

  26. R.... M....

I will never forget singing this song in the car with my grandma, happy memories ❤

    R.... M....

Ruby Miller, my Granddad loved this song and listening to Anne Murray. I randomly remembered this song and had to listen. Took me back to being in his living room as a kid. ❤️

  27. K.... A....

What I like about this version is that it's a lot easier for me to sing. I remember listening to this on my cassette tape when I was in middle school. I enjoyed it so much. This version came out in 1979.

    K.... A....

Kim Anderson I know what you mean

  28. b.... ....

    Simply wonderful

  29. I.... S....

Just like every other Anne Murray song. No heart. No soul. Just plain-vanilla cover. Yuck.

    I.... S....

    Ima SuperPerson

Ha! Cheer up mate. Just a song!

    I.... S....

She is from the same province that I am from, Nova Scotia. But is too good and rich to live here any more.

    I.... S....

    #1-selling flavor is vanilla, SuperPerson.

    I.... S....

Just like every other Anne Murray troll: No heart. No soul. Just plain-vanilla comments. Yuck.

  30. f.... ....

    she looks very cute

  31. S.... G....

I find the Monkees one a little better.

    S.... G....

    @Nostalgicjukebox You're welcome!

    S.... G....

Rainbow Dash 4Ever Well it was the original

  32. H.... G....

UNA PERSONA NO SE AGOTARIA DE ESCUCHARLA ETERNAMENTE PIENSO QUE LOS MONKESS NO SE IMAGINARIAN QUE ESTA CANCION TAN FORMIDABLE PASARIA A LA ETERNIDAD

  33. H.... G....

ESPECTACULAR CANCION , DE LOS MONKES SUPER RELAX 1,000 PUNTOS NUNCA PASARA DE MODA

  34. Q.... ....

I heard this on a DTV music video.

    Q.... ....

Me too! Led me here, LOL.

  35. m.... ....

    #1 song that is.

  36. m.... ....

This hit from Anne Murray was the 373rd song on Billboard's Adult Contemporary charts.

  37. D.... R....

This Song Was Borrowed From Davey Jones, When He Had A Group Called "The Monkees."

  38. M.... ....

Oops!...and it also went to #12 on the pop chart the same month! ..Take care! :)

  39. M.... ....

JUST AS GOOD AS GOLD!!...Thank you soooo much for posting and sharing this "rarely heard anymore" lil' country ditty that peaked at #3 on the charts here in the U.S. for Anne back in March 1980...I thoroughly enjoyed it!...(and the sound quality is EXCELLENT too!) Take care!! :)

  40. F.... R....

Like her version better more punch to it
