Anne Murray - Call Lyrics
It's a long distance phone
And I feel so alone
Here without him.
Its a crime and a shame
And don't you know that
I'm worried about him.
I've been all over street
Every street, up and down
Looking for the man.
It's just a face in the crowd
Where the traffic roars loud
But don't you know he'd be
[Chorus:]
Mister, can you
Fnd it in your heart
To lend me a dollar
For the times have been slow
I'm fresh outta dough
And I ain't got the
Money to call him.
I threw my pride out the door
'Cause I've been turned down before
But I'll keep trying.
This kind of pain is
Kind of hard to explain
But the feeling's the same
As like dying.
[Chorus:]
Mister, can you
Fnd it in your heart
To lend me a dollar
For the times have been slow
I'm fresh outta dough
And I ain't got the
Money to call him.
You put the change in my hand
You're the world's kindest man
And I thank you, Sir.
You'll never know what you've done
For this poor mother's son
A thirsty man just got a
Cold cup of water.
[Chorus:]
Mister, can you
Fnd it in your heart
To lend me a dollar
For the times have been slow
I'm fresh outta dough
And I ain't got the
Money to call him.
[Chorus:]
Mister, can you
Fnd it in your heart
To lend me a dollar
For the times have been slow
I'm fresh outta dough
And I ain't got the
Money to call him...

Beautiful!
Here because a girl named Anne called me saying I called her but I actually cant make phone calls.
This was a favorite song of my little brother,my best friend who lost his life in a car accident -I miss you David
Anne has one of the most BEAUTIFUL! voices of all time, so smooth, so melodic and an incredibly easy tone, so dreamy too and i could never tire of listening to her
BEAUTUL SONG,THANKS FOR POSTING,BLESS YOU MISS ANN, LOVE MICHAEL BERTSCH.
Anne made a rich man out of Gene MacLellan by recording his songs. This song and ''Snowbird'' did very well for both of them.

I vaguely remember her singing this song on the first season of "Saturday Night Live"
She's the best! Thank you for all of the memories Ms. Murray!
my mom used to sing this when ever we asked her for money/ which usually meant no lol
Haven't heard this song in 30 years.....and it reminds me of my college days --- makes me smile so big to think about those days
The first version of this song is good, but this was the "hit" version from six years later. It charted to #10 on the Country chart, but only #91 on the Pop chart. I saw her sing it at the time on "The Mike Douglas Show".
Love this one!! I have Anne's 'box" set of 4 cd's which has this one on it. absolutely love it, listen to it over and over and over... I have been a fan of Anne since mom came home with "New kind of Feeling" lp in 1979, I have been an addict of Anne's music ever since... My favorite female country singer..... Love you Anne, I CANNOT thank you enough for all the joy that you have brought into my life through your music, and continue, still to this day, to bring to me and to millions of others, you are so loved.. GOD bless you!!! Hope to get to the museum in Nova Scotia soon...

@poohen223 Someone had said my first upload was a watered-down version and so I went looking for the 'real' one. Turns out THAT WAS the ORIGINAL version from 'Honey, Wheat, and Laughter', 1970. (Just found a source to confirm this.) However, the one posted HERE is the one that I heard on the radio in the mid-70's from 'Together.' It's longer because it has an added verse at 1:40- 1:55. Personally, I like this one much better. Looking forward to your upload when you have time :)
@bze2nlz4 Anne's first try at recording this song is on her 3rd canadian album 'honey, wheat and laughter' 1971 or 2...it clocks in at 2:09 and is much more sincere than this version. Neither hold a candle to Gene though.I'll upload you something, though Anne is pretty low on my priority list...;P
@poohen223 Well, I wish I had kept the original album! However, this is a 1999 re-master of the original recording. 'Together' was re-released as part of Anne's Signature Series by EMI/Canada.
@bze2nlz4 there is still an earlier recording, me thinks, but ...
Great song. Thanks for posting.
This is a nice song. I like the slide show. Anne Murray is a beautiful woman and she sings like an angel. Thank you for sharing this.
Thank you very much for posting the 'original' version of this classic Gene M. song. What a writer - what a singer! I'm happy you were able to find this version. :)
@SounzNice You are welcome! I uploaded an 'abbreviated' version a few months ago, and realized it wasn't the original after someone commented about it. Glad I was able to find the 'right' version!!
