Animal Collective - Working Lyrics

I don't mind working I'd rather be on hills of sand
But then I would get thirsty to fill a need, I leave my friends
For always being the kind of man I try and love those kinds of hands
And hope tonight stick to my plan and never bleed for names I've ran

But if you tried to love a simple thing
Have you tried to love the simple thing
And try to grow
Sometime I get bigger
Sometime

    v.... ....

    They probably will

  5. M.... D....

This has to be one of the most Europhic things they've produced

  6. S.... ....

Oh man, the clicking sound at the end is chilling, especially if you've seen The Descent.

  7. J.... Y....

    lol Geo you alright?

    J.... Y....

    its panda

    J.... Y....

    James Clifton at 3:39?

    J.... Y....

What is he doing back there??

  8. S.... ....

    ac is peace is love

  9. M.... ....

    3:30 Tantrum Barb

  10. T.... S....

I will one day watch the entirety of oddsac in one sitting. But it has to be a special night, a magical one

    T.... S....

    Favourite song?

    T.... S....

Farmer John probably this one tbh. I really like the opening song and screens too

    T.... S....

I was stoned and sat back with a few beers, brilliant night that was. I miss the mind frame I was in

    T.... S....

every night is a special and magical one. one can find it sitting too

    T.... S....

Watched it last night on 300 mics oh fucking boi

  11. B.... H....

Thank you Animal Collective, for teaching me that melody lies in the rhythm.

    B.... H....

Very well said. I make music myself....and the single most important lesson I ever learned was that rhythm is _*everything*_. Music is simply sound organized in time....and timing is the key to it all. All great melodies...harmonies....are nothing without the underlying rhythms...from the actual tempo, to the time signature, to the literal frequency of the notes. Everything vibrating...pulsing.

  12. n.... ....

    "Working" absolutely kills me.

    n.... ....

one of my favs too :)

    n.... ....

It is gut-wrenching, beautiful and hard to listen to in the best way

  13. D.... T....

I wonder if the close up shots of the mouth toward 6:15 are foreshadowing to centipede hz

  14. R.... C....

ah i didn't know that, coolio

  15. R.... C....

Avey i think is the red guy from Mr. Fingers and What Happened. You can see glimpses of him every so often. dunno what he means by 4th, i don't think Deacon is in this

  16. a.... ....

lol...I took a screen-cap of the shot at 5:55 where it looks like a bunch of children sitting around in some temple....and I inverted the colors. You can see what's going on a lot easier that way.
What's funny is I had always seen what I thought looked like one of the kids with a flapping wing..like some sort of cherub.
Well, turns out it's a dog waging it's tail. I had never noticed that...despite seeing this video probably 20 times.

  17. a.... ....

All 4? I see Geologist and Panda of course. But where's the other two?

  18. a.... ....

Man...wish I was invited to parties like that. :(

  19. a.... ....

Good god...I had forgotten how transcendent this is. I love "Tantrum Barb"...and always sing it to myself while taking walks. The bit about "colorful strings across branches of lemon" is so aesthetically...tasty...I guess.
But the "Working" song at the beginning is almost heartbreaking. It blows my mind that Noah, with merely his voice and a few sparse twinkly samples, was able to construct a track that says more than 10,000 words ever could.

    a.... ....

avedic Working is an Avey song.

  20. s.... ....

This was my first introduction to Animal Collective. A classmate showed this in class and it blew my mind.

  21. f.... ....

ME TOO I BOUGHT IT ON VINYL AND WEAR A SHIRT

  22. B.... D....

lol dis nigga said "some album". I know exactly what you mean frgrgfrdf.

  23. M.... ....

Nice. I agree completely though. Works great in the background, and if someone is fucked up, they usually get sucked into it.

  24. t.... ....

    there's nothing wrong with that

  25. m.... ....

    i know where this is

  26. C.... M....

That's Geologist! They're all in ODDSAC at one point. In fact, all four of them are in Tantrum Barb.

  27. W.... ....

Favorite song off the album! The dude swinging that sling thing cracks me up everytime lol

  28. P.... ....

No really, I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON.

  29. R.... K....

So well said man. It must be so shit to only like really easy music.

  30. J.... ....

I see what you mean, but you could love AC's music and not dig Danny Perez' visuals..... THAT is very possible.

  31. L.... ....

XD I was reading a scholarly article when the first loud part happened. It made me jump.

  32. L.... ....

I find it odd how I knew about this when I was in a relationship with my first ex back in like October two years ago, but I only just know thought to check it out.

  33. c.... ....

Am I the only one who can taste the colors?

    c.... ....

I get so overwhelmed by olfactory hues

  34. m.... ....

    Merry Poppins Poop

  35. T.... ....

    fans aren't loyal, supporters are

  36. l.... ....

Working is one of the most beautiful songs they've done

  37. f.... ....

    some album

  38. P.... C....

    what is mpp

  39. f.... ....

haha i apologize as well for being a little hostile at first. it's good to know we believe in the same stuff though.

  40. 8.... ....

i apologies, but it's an easy mistake, cos when u see it in writing, your comment can easily come off as a little conceited. i do agree that it can be like a punch in the face, cos when i started listening to their other stuff at first, i was a little unsure, but grew to like it a lot. most great music is like that anyways. sure sometimes there r songs that u love immediately; however, the best songs usually take a few listens to see the genius. having said that, i loved panda's stuff instantly

  41. f.... ....

yeah, i did jump on the bandwagon during MPP but ill stand by animal collective 'til death. im saying that people who enjoy the album more than the band as a whole might listen to this and be turned off very quickly, or "punched in the face" to use a metaphor. please don't make generalizations or misinterpretations based off of comments which contain neither. just listen to the music and enjoy.

  42. 8.... ....

who gives a shit if some people only like MPP. it's all personal tastes. i wouldn't be surprised if that's when you jumped on the bandwagon as well. i'm not a hipster douche bag so i heard about them when MPP came out, but i've moved on to plenty of their material and Panda Bear's work as well. your comment sounds very conceited as if you think your tastes are superior. don't get caught up in the hype and fandom and posers. just listen to the music and enjoy.

  43. f.... ....

haha did you expect a normal person on an AC video??

  44. K.... B....

Guys. Who cares how many people listened to MPP, or when certain fans started listening to Animal Collective. All their albums are fucking amazing, and if some people only listen to MPP, well, their loss really.

  45. f.... ....

...i never complained about the album's popularity

  46. t.... ....

i kind of agree. MPP is obviously a lot different and less strange or hard to digest as Strawberry Jam and Sung Tongs, this reminds me of the AC that was behind those albums.

  47. f.... ....

hughm. it doesn't "punch" them, but imagine if someone who was a fan of my girls and brother sport and bluish happened to listen to this...it would appear astonishingly different and sort of jump out at them in a...punchy...sort of way

  48. L.... M....

The question is: why should they? I happen to be an AnCo fan, but there are lots of bands from which i only like one album, which I've only listened because it gained popularity, and have became a fan of the album, but not necessarily the band. I don't see how it punches them at all, or if it does, why should you be so glad about it....Don't take these things so seriously! Just enjoy the output, and accept that people do not need, nor have some kind of moral obligation of loyality to a band

  49. f.... ....

Meriwether gained them more popularity than their previous albums, so select groups of people, without knowing it, became a fan of the album rather than the band. They're disloyal because they wouldn't really follow or support the band like a longtime fan would.

  50. L.... M....

    disloyal? please explain

  51. D.... M....

There are many mushrooms similar to the psylocybe species which cause hallucinations but are actually certifiably toxic (One of the few ACTUAL dangers of mushrooms). However, just do a google search on psylocybin mushrooms and look for articles posted by PhD's, Psychologists, and Research Centers and each one concludes that the substance is non-toxic.

  52. D.... M....

Using the blood barrier as mechanism of action doesn't imply that the substance or it's effects are toxic or the results of toxicity. Aside from the physical aspects, no matter how you think of the experience; whether you perceive it as a model schizophrenia, the effects of sensory overload, or the effects of a malfunctioning brain; it's clear that psychedelics are a gateway to the subconscious, and that if approached properly; they can be a monumental tool for self-growth.

  53. D.... M....

I've had many experiences with psilocybin that were entirely absent of nausea. The experience is a amplification of subjectivity, so that would probably explain why one approaching the experience with the idea that it's toxin will find that the experience adjusts itself to that idea. Regardless, it's been medically proven countless times that the substance itself is non-toxic. I've read hundreds of articles on the subject and almost every credible one comes to that conclusion.(Keep reading)

  54. p.... ....

Psilocybin crosses the blood barrier into the brain. A barrier that is used in defense of the brain from harmful or otherwise toxic substances. I'm not sure about you, but the first sign that I've poisoned myself is usually nausea, which hallucinogenic mushrooms induce within the first 45 minutes of ingestion. I've done them and I've done research. Anyone can take 5 seconds to find research that supports their argument. It's called confirmation bias.

  55. D.... M....

Psilocybin mushrooms aren't food poisoning and the hallucinations certainly aren't caused by poisoning, anybody who has literally done 5 seconds of actual research on psilocybin mushrooms rather than just blindly believing what they hear would know that. In a 2006 UK professional study among others, they found mushrooms to be "remarkably non-toxic to the body's organ systems" Don't spread ignorance about a substance that can be a powerful and insightful tool for exploring one's consciousness.

  56. t.... ....

so happy I chose this scene and geologist's face from kindle song for my oddsac piece.
AC makes me so happy <3 <3<3

  57. p.... ....

@Wharrrrrgarbl Exactly. Just because facts are facts doesn't mean they are facts. Oh man, I get it now! Thank you so much for your insight!

  58. R.... K....

    ...

That's not the summation in the slightest. And my sentences are perfectly coherent.

The summation is that just because there are scientific facts that tell us what DMT does on a physical level whilst it's in your brain, that doesn't mean for a second that we know all of what's going on when people take it. Scientists can study something like that relentlessly and still not really know anything about it, despite having a lot of facts in regards to the chemistry of it.

  59. p.... ....

Now you're just saying words. Sure they're a sequence and they form a sentence. But their structure is incoherent.

Summation: "Just because something is fact, doesn't mean it is fact." Great. You're on to some heavy stuff there dude.

  60. R.... K....

"Natural to the brains functioning"... Once again you're making really weird and ridiculous assertions that you can't back up. Who's to say what's natural to the brains functioning? Maybe the effects of DMT are natural. Maybe they're more natural than caffeine or sugar etc.

The long and short of it is:
None of us have a fucking clue about DMT.. At least those who've experienced these things have some kind of philosophical insight, as opposed to just meaningless inconclusive scientific facts.

  61. R.... K....

Who are you to say whether or not taking mushrooms isn't a rocket ship to another dimension?

You literally have no idea whether or not they do. That's a really absurd assertion to make. Nobody really knows why psychedelic drugs do what they do. The fact that scientists can measure responses in the brain to certain things doesn't mean they know why/how mushrooms do what they do. They just know what the physical process is.

    Go read some books, nigga.

  62. p.... ....

Not propaganda. Even if it has similar chemical structure to serotonin, introducing to much can poison the brain. People with too much serotonin are schizophrenics. DMT occurs naturally in the brain but again introducing too much into the brain causes side effects that is not natural to the brains functioning. Still a poisoned mushroom even if you happen to call that poisoning, tripping.

  63. p.... ....

It can also produce horrific hallucinations. Remember, taking mushrooms isn't a rocket ship to another dimension. It's the side effect of poisoning your body.

  64. M.... ....

    Couldn't agree more.

  65. b.... ....

i dont think their intention is to alienate people.

  66. M.... ....

tantrum barb too good for youtube?

  67. J.... L....

Anyone else getting a Kurt Cobain vibe from the drummer in the video?

  68. H.... ....

4:30 holy fuck I was singing along :(

  69. S.... ....

@nauseousqueasy DMT is life changing too. If you havent broken through the vale yet then you should check it out. I love frying but DMT is another world

  70. w.... ....

I like that when he walks over the stones it sounds like marbles under his feet. In "Working" the vocals are so soothing, they come over you in a lulling trance, only to be broken by the drums towards the ends. They convey their meanings not only in lyrics but in sound, and I enjoy the way they work into a tribal jam dance in "Tantrum Bomb" This entire album is awesome, and my only complaint is you can't rip the album off the DVD into a FLAC or MP3 file..OH WELL still <3 them

  71. T.... ....

@frgrgfrdf i think that down there and person pitch did that as well. Tomboy not as much

  72. E.... F....

@xxZeroZonexx That's the exact same moment when I aborted the mission LOL

  73. E.... F....

Watching this while high has led to a very very bad trip, I love animal collective but this is way too scary for me

  74. M.... J....

FUCK. That loud ass noise made me jump so fucking high.

Awesome shit though, I can only imagine how awesome this would be on acid.

  75. T.... t....

(rather the same way I enjoy AC's music.)

  76. T.... t....

I'm surprised to find myself enjoying this. I was afraid it would be too avant-garde for me and I'd find it horribly boring, instead I'm just delighted by the weirdness!

  77. C.... ....

    @ZACHDISASTER snobby douchebag :)

  78. f.... ....

This album just punches all the disloyal fans they gained from MPP in the face. I love it.

  79. c.... ....

If by story telling you mean there are pictures of earlier scenes, then this is a great story

  80. n.... d....

    @noesteem219 ... exactly.. so cool
