The first half is is so sweet-sounding, and man, that chaotic whirlwind that carries the last half of the song is mesmerizing and lovely, can't even describe in words the feelings that come over me on that part. These guys are amazing.

Looks like the new album will pick up this style. If that's the case, this will probably be one of the best AnCo albums ever.

+Mattydigs you can't really compare Slasher Flicks since it doesn't count as animal collective. it's like comparing MPP with Tomboy or Person Pitch. Centipede Hz felt really messy and Painting felt cleaner but without the awesome instrumentation. it's mixed but both aren't very great.

I think I can, they've gone through a lot of different sounds, they've used real drums before, no? It definitely has the same type of anco vibe. Some songs on slasher flicks could have fit right into CHz (or maybe even this album) and it would have been better for it. Roses on the Window, for instance. I will agree that both CHz and Painting With are definitely NOT great.

I definitely disagree. I think there's some really good stuff in Enter the Slasher House but I personally think that both Centipede Hz and Painting With are more interesting overall as albums. I didn't like Centipede Hz much at first and I'm still not that fond of the mastering (not quite enough low frequencies on a lot of it) on the release but.. after hearing them play stuff from it live and listening to it a lot more I've found that it is really great. though I think that many of the songs don't stand as well on their own as the songs from most of their earlier albums, their evolution in terms of the texture and atmosphere of the album definitely seemed adventurous to me. I would say that slasher house maybe had some better vocal melodies than both of the other two albums and the vocals on Painting With did seem a little bit of a review but I think they still work well. all I'm really trying to say is I think all three albums in question are quite good in different ways. just like the albums that came before.. if there's one thing that I think is contributing to people not liking the two more recent ac albums much, it would probably be that there's not as much diversity of song style.. like.. on their earlier albums there was usually a good balance between songs that were pensive, energetic, relaxing, etc.. on the newer ones it's a lot of fairly energetic sort of hectic movement which I could see might tire people out or make people lose interest when there isn't as much space. but again, I don't think that's even a bad thing myself it's just different functionally

anyway. opinions.

CHz, that's debatable. Painting with - that album is definitely not good, for AnCo, anyway. I don't even give that album a thought anymore. It wore out it's welcome VERY quickly.

They capture the smiles and tears so well. Even within a single song, they often express a full range of human emotions, everything from giggly giddiness to deep sadness to frustrated anger, it's all in there.

But tears are frozen diamonds, so we smile when we're crying :)

I think this may be my favorite song of all time. I've been hammering it for years now and it manages to sound fresh and uplifting every time I play it.

Actually, you're incorrect.  I'm willing to bet that if you don't like AnCo or jazz, the reason is because both rely heavily on polyrhythms, the layering or combining of different rhythms in a piece to create a mathematically complex work.  To the virgin ear, polyrhythms can be frightening, noisy, disorienting, frustrating, not-danceable, etc.  But listen to enough music this complex and I guarantee you'll never go back.  Simpler music will become so boring, so flat by contrast.

Without jazz we wouldn't have rock and roll, which is where pop mainly comes from. Indeed, jazz does come from blues but that isn't important to state since it's widely understood that jazz borrows heavily from blues and ragtime. all these genres are connected. Also, forgive me for calling it modern music instead of western music. They are generally referred to be the same thing.

What I am saying though Is the music takes on a whole new form, one of such intense beauty you break down and fucking cry from it, then find yourself rolling on the floor laughing, and back to joy and tears... all in one song. The emotional intensity of the songs is really prominent during a trip and I think there is a certain filter in a sober state that tripping allows one to break through.
Just my 2 cents n stuff.

I like the way I view them just like this, sober. I don't need to have some kinda supplement to get enjoyment from AC. They're my favorite group and will always be, drugs or no.
