Animal Collective - Hair Cutter Lyrics

Like a lake
They'll find nothing
Sometimes she watched it
Why would she touch it?
Like a soft mouth
Drinks with her navel
When she's feeling bad
Dusting, she wishes she were

And I hope
I feel good at home
Happy that I need you
You help me not to be
But there are some times
Things don't go like you want them to
You mean it

Like a little
Why does she heed it?
As strong as something
For a happy customer
Help her sometimes
Better help her often
She kept on working
And sitting by a hair cutter

Hair cutter
My hair cutter

Yes
Yes

Back in 2009 Animal Collective, ashamed upon releasing Merriweather Post Pavilion and realizing that they were going pop, decided to go into hiding for a long period of reflection, artistic development and self-discovery. Avey Tare, Panda Bear and Geologist were blindfolded and led by Deakin to a cave that only he knew the location of - this was where he went to shed tears whenever he began to be a bit too self-aware for his liking; it was also his favorite spot to masturbate. They remained unseen to the public until they reemerged 9 years later. having been ravaged by the unforgiving wilderness and existing constantly on the brink of death by starvation for 9 long years, they had finally had a breakthrough. They rushed back to the studio, where they plugged 4 midi keyboards into Avey Tare's macbook and expertly crafted precisely the synths that had come to all of them simultaneously in a dream they all experiencd on the final night. They began rolling their faces back and forth along their midi keyboards in unison as Avey Tare began singing about wanting to fuck his barber. They recorded the ambient noise of the apartment, layered it all together and released it to the world. Absolutely genius. 10/10.

  4. K.... S....

    awesome!

  5. p.... s....

I feel like this is what the world needs, more watery sounds , especially since most of the US is currently on fire

  6. s.... ....

What a lush sounding track, sounds cinematic

  7. E.... M....

I came here because of an ad.

    The ad was more impressive.

I feel like I should be at an art show with newbies.

    E.... M....

    Shit taste

    E.... M....

The full album will come out with visuals that far outclass the ad. This is just an audio single. Don't underestimate this band, they have made some insanely masterful albums. Check out Feels.

This is so dull, come on boys. We've already had Eucalyptus.

    m.... ....

bravetherainbow most disappointed I’ve ever been. Like literally nothing happens in this song.

    m.... ....

It's an ambient track, it's supposed to be ethereal and entrancing, not adventurous and shifting. Maybe it's not your thing but don't knock it because in your opinion "literally nothing happens". Also it seems like it's meant to be an introductory track for the album that transitions into the next piece.

    m.... ....

TJ Hollister they didn't invent ambient music. There is a lot of ambient that is adventurous and shifting. You can't just dissmiss the lack of activity as characteristic of the genre, otherwise we are falling into an "if it's AnCo it's good" bias.

    m.... ....

musicalman1995 I never made any claims that AnCo "invented the genre", of course not. I only said that the track was meant to work as such. And you're right that much ambient music is adventurous and shifting, but a lot of ambient music is about creating a singular soundscape that becomes entrancing or fixating. I think this is much more meant to fit that description.

And no one ever said you had to like it because it's AnCo, I just said not to write it off simply because it didn't do what you wanted it to do. I don't like or enjoy Centipede Hz or Painting With, this isn't something baseline acceptance of anything they put out, I just think it's a good track.

    m.... ....

intellectualizing your lack of enjoyment is not equivalent to objectivity

  9. T.... ....

It's so cool they recorded sounds underwater!

  10. R.... S....

Like dreaming in a dripping cave.

    Lyrics: (I think)

    I go to Haircutter
    Third Friday monthly
    Sometimes she rush it
Oh I wish she'd touch me

    Hair colored soft eyes
    Drinks with her neighbor
    And when she's feeling bad
Does things she wishes she wouldn't

    And when I'm at home
    I think of haircutter
    I do not mean to
You help me not to mean it

    But there are sometimes
Things don't go like you want them to
    You need it

    Haircutter little
    What was she feeling?
    A spark of something
    For a lovely customer

    Haircutter's sometimes
    Better than her often
    So she kept on working
    And seeing my hair color

    Haircutter
    My hair cutter

    Here you go:
Wonder of a place to hide
Oh the easiest thing to do
Said there's another place to hide
Oh the easiest thing to do
If there is another place to hide
    Oh the easiest thing to
I'd say there's another place to hide
    Oh easiest thing to do

Like a ghost from the faraway
You weren't expecting it to take you out
With your eyes turned up in the bed again
It's not relieving you from falling in doubt

When the winds upturned and breaking things and
    There really is something undone
And the wheels are turning and
    Your brother's worried and
The mailman is dressed like a clown

Modern days e make me crazy
    All the tries, body rise
Walk on stage and fight till its over with
    Modern child, life is wild

I know what it's like to bend to
The people and the potent distraction (x2)

All you ever wanted to do, but
The people and the potent distraction (x2)

Modern days e make me crazy
    All the tries, bloody riot
Walk on stage and fight till its over with
    Modern child, life is wild

Is it knows place to hide
Oh the easiest thing to do
Said do you know a place to hide
Oh the easiest thing to do
I'd say there another place to hide
Oh the easiest thing to do
I'd say there's another place to hide
Oh the easiest thing to do

Oh the easiest thing to do (x2)

I know what it's like to bend to
The people and the potent distraction (x2)

All you ever wanted to do, but
The people and the potent distraction (x5)

Duuude, nice! Thank you, you have a good ear. I have wracked my brain trying to hear what he's saying, but could make no sense of it. Now I'm listening to it with your transcription and it's sounding spot-on. I'm def gonna check out that live version too. 😊

  20. j.... r....

    this is so amazing

  21. m.... ....

Reminds me of Spirit They’re Gone a little, interesting

    m.... ....

    Miguel Hernandez no

    m.... ....

Miguel Hernandez penny dreadfuls is a great song

    m.... ....

Oh yeah, it definitely does. I was actually thinking to myself "where is this melody from"? The vocal melody is pretty similar. They played Sung Tongs in its entirety in a tour this year, so maybe it's inspired from that.

    m.... ....

This is a weird argument because they are both excellent albums and for whatever reason both of you are dismissive of each other's album. Spirit They've Gone is Avey and Panda's first album together, so its production is harsh yet quite creative. It breaks a lot of rules because they weren't pros at that point. It also has this brilliant raw emotion and energetic instruments. MPP is their most critically acclaimed, but maybe it's just more universally liked: both fans and noobs to the band tended to like it. They pretty much reinvented their song electronically for that album and I'd also say it seems like it had Avey and Panda at their collaborative peak, both doing their own songs like Lennon and McCartney.

    m.... ....

How is spirit ear rape? I've found it completely listenable and amazing 13 years ago when I was 21. Sounds like you have very pedestrian tastes, no offense

  22. A.... W....

Lovely... sounds like an outtake from Eucalyptus...

  23. b.... ....

Always and always and always ascending
The Shepard deceives so you think you're transcending

    b.... ....

    But iiiiiiiiit never gonna resolve!

    b.... ....

    Richard Fukuda never gonna reSOLVe

    b.... ....

But think to yourself, search deeper: why does it need to resolve? Perhaps it is you yourself needs to "resolve". Your life has been leading to this point, slowly building up... to this point.
