Angels, The - Living On The Outside Lyrics

The night you take for granted, the stolen chambermaid
Still dressing up as though you're on parade
You walk a backroom tightrope - a phoney acrobate
Try to charm a China Doll, should known better than that
A world of diamong cuff links & gleaming sapphire rings
At Saville Row you leave them wondering.
Looking for silver trophies, something that might make news
Come to the house of hope, work out whose is whose
The night you take for granted, a castle made of sand.
Just an empty room of mirrors, never know where to stand.
Living On The Outside, always looking in
Taking everything – feels like a haunted heart

There's John with his Strat. He later said he regretted using a Stratocaster on this album (he usually played Les Paul) and can't stand to listen to it now.

I love The Angels and this IS one of their best songs - as good as No Secrets and Marseilles et al. I just wanna know: when did Doc Neeson change his name to Craig Ferguson and become a talk show host in America?

  14. l.... ....

The one thing ive always wondered bout this song..does the ''tried to charm a china doll..should have known better than that'' refer to bassist Chris Bailey dating soon to be Jane Barnes before she met Jimmy???

@digmacdiggydoo Are you in the United States? I ask because you called them "Angel City." If you like their music then try searching Cold Chisel, they are another great Aussie band. By the way, No Secrets, Am I Ever Gonna See Your Face, Fashion and Fame, Marseilles, and Face the Day are The Angels best songs :-)

  16. S.... G....

Living in the Potland area in the early 80's, Angel City (or The Angels) were quite popular in this area. Loss touch with the bands music after Darkroom. So looking through Youtube, started to bring back memories. Found this song, and could not believe my ears. Already downloaded the entire Night Attack cd. WOW!! I love this period of the band. Did not care for hard rock that came out later. But that's ok. Good stuff. Next to The Church, The Angels are a great band. Wish I had saw then live.

digmacdiggydoo I seen them play twice at the old Paramount Theatre downtown on Broadway early 80's
