Andy Grammer - She'd Say Lyrics

[Ladysmith Black Mambazo:]
Ngiyamkhumbula umama wami
[Zulu: I miss my mom]

You never got to meet your grandma did ya?
Every night, I got you kissin' on her picture
Cuts me up that you will never listen
To the sweet, sweet sound of her voice
I could tell you she was quite the mixture
Of a mama and a shaman and a fiery pistol
Truth is, she's right there in you
She's a part of you, you don't have a choice

My dear, you will feel her
In your mind, you will hear her
And if she could use words, use words

She'd say
"You're beautiful, but don't you overplay that card"
She'd say
"You're spiritual, so don't ever forget that part"
She'd say
"You are so much stronger than you even think you are
Let your heart, let your heart lead the way"
That's what she'd say

Ooh-woo, ooh-woo, ooh-woo
That's what she'd say
Ooh-woo, ooh-woo, ooh-woo-hoo-hoo

She said, "Take care of your sisters, I mean their whole world
Spend your days tryna lift up other girls
You came with love, a purpose, and your mother's curls
I'll be with you every step of the way, ayy
Don't live your life tryna blend in, stick out
Trust your gut and don't you get into those doubts
Remember God is like the sun, he always comes out
Just when you think the dark's here to stay"

My dear, you will feel her
In your mind, you will hear her
And if she could use words, use words

She'd say
"You're beautiful, but don't you overplay that card"
She'd say
"You're spiritual, so don't ever forget that part"
She'd say
"You are so much stronger than you even think you are
Let your heart, let your heart lead the way"
That's what she'd say

Ooh-woo, ooh-woo, ooh-woo
That's what she'd say
Ooh-woo, ooh-woo, ooh-woo-hoo-hoo

She'd say, "Listen to your daddy
In his voice, you will hear me
I know he will sing my song to you
And know that I'm happy
And you'll always have me
I'm watching everything you do"

She'd say
"You're beautiful, but don't you overplay that card"
She'd say
"You're spiritual, so don't ever forget that part"
She'd say
"You are so much stronger than you even think you are
Let your heart, let your heart lead the way"
That's what she'd say

Ooh-woo, ooh-woo, ooh-woo
That's what she'd say
Ooh-woo, ooh-woo, ooh-woo-hoo-hoo

As a South African, I can't believe it has taken me so long to come across this song. This is THE most beautiful tribute and anyone who has lost a parent before they could meet their grandchildren will agree. I sat here sobbing when I first watched this!

I lost my dad 8 years ago, last year my daughter was born on his birthday. She is his 1st grandchild and shares so many of his attributes it's amazing. Like he sent a piece of himself to us in her <3

Andy, your story made me cry. My daughter is turning 16 and she never got to physically meet her grandma either, but I do know that my mom has met her plenty of times. You've created a beautiful tribute to your mom and to the spiritual relationship that your mom and your daughter will undoubtedly have. It's a creation of love, and with that you can't go wrong! PS Would love for you to come to Ancaster for one of Mary and Clarke's fireside chats! Hugs from Canada

I should have always treated them with more respect in the heart game I was just a spec they wouldn't even give me a sec sorry I didn't better connect but even then I got to learn your strength and that's a blessing from God I think acted more like a parent then I could probably ever be undeserving of a daughter such as you sorry for how I treated them in many ways I was wrong for so long didn't know what was going on from dusk till Dawn I was the moron and you children I was so fond a man in a fish tank or pond drowning in my own imperfection Iran from any connection to my recollection I should have showed more affection I thank you for believing when others would not you were the one that paid attention when I was beside myself showing such bad health so selfless and true looking back I was kind of cruel please forgive me for what I did do hug your mother and be by her side one Boosie bad ass she will always have your hide and yet always down to ride sorry my brain cells were so fried so many nights you witness my weakness and as I cried looking into both of your I suffocated and died my heart was elsewhere I don't know why I didn't try you all knew me as a different guy I know that's why your mother made me say bye the fear of him being another's and taking my right kept me from doing the things that I like made me feel like my chest was so tight it's not to be excused and I'm sure you will feel used most of it I did not choose but I was really scared to lose so I grabbed my own and made my own noose kill the family plan like whats the use in reality running for my own choice to choose in my eyes that's still a version of abuse I would not blame you for cutting me loose sincerely yours The Man behind closed doors

This song has really has changed my life. My aunt that raised me my whole life passed away 4 years ago , and it tore my world apart. I called her my mother, my mom , my angel. Two days after she passed on to be with the Lord, I found out I was pregnant with my husband's 5 child. Then my baby sister found out she was pregnant the day after I did. So us not having our mom here while we were preparing to bring life into this world again. Really hurt us terribly. There's not a day that goes by that I don't shed tears because my mom isn't here to see my daughter , Gabriella McCurry and my sisters new babies. Skylarr Webb and Danlie Parks . This helps me more than ever to explain what there grandma Judy Lorain Webb would say to them babies everyday.

Thank you for writing this song . It helps alot!

    RIP Judy Lorain Webb
    Sincerely, Chancey💋

  82. P.... F....

    this man writes magic.

  83. M.... J....

This song makes both my mom and I absolutely lose it. Her Mom, my Grandma, passed away about a year before I was born. One night, our family friend had a dream where she saw my Grandma holding a baby. When the friend asked whose baby she was holding, my Grandma simply replied "You'll see" and walked away. The *next* day, the friend ran into my mom in the hospital elevator and immediately told her the story. What the friend didn't know was that my mom had just left her OB/GYN's office after finding out she was pregnant with me. My parents had been told they were infertile and would never have kids - Nine months later, I arrived. According to my mom, when I was learning to walk, I would pull up on the end table where my mom kept a picture of her mom. One day, I looked at it and simply said "Rock you, rock you," which I would only say to people I knew when I wanted to be held. Before that, my mom had never told me who was in the picture. Now, 24 years later, my mom will still stop dead in her tracks and just look at me because, while my Grandma and I look almost nothing alike, our mannerisms are apparently eerily similar - down to our love of red roses and Haagen Daz Vanilla ice cream. Somehow, I feel like this song would be her letter to me, too, and I can't wait to get to Heaven so I can meet her.

  84. H.... S....

Every time I hear this song i instantly cry. Amazing song i absolutely love it
