Andrew McMahon In The Wilderness - House In The Trees Lyrics

Jami was a good friend
Back when we were kids and my father got sick
We would hang out on the weekends
In her house by the cathedral where all the good people
Got dressed up on a Sunday
To go and spill their secrets no matter who the preacher was
We used to find that funny
But it's easy when you're young not to realize that you're lucky

When the last of your friends are gone
You learn a whole lot about hanging on and on
But if you crash and nobody sees
Just remember there will always be
A room for you in my house in the trees

Aaron was a good friend
We were in our twenties, we drove across the country
Then moved into the canyon
And he looked after the business the year that I got sick
Then we went off in different directions
Kept in touch but it never was the same
I never got to thank him
But I wrote it in a letter
I'm sure I'll send it someday

When the last of your friends are gone
You learn a whole lot about hanging on and on
But if you crash and nobody sees
Just remember there will always be
A room for you in my house in the trees
Trees

I am a lucky man
I have been so many places
When I dream it seems I'm chasing
A bittersweet, bittersweet, bittersweet memories

When the last of your friends are gone
You learn a whole lot about hanging on and on
But if you crash and nobody sees
Just remember there will always be
A room for you in my house in the trees
Trees
My house in the trees
Trees
My house in the trees
Trees

This song for some reason gives me 70s music vibes. Love it.

    SCのときから好きでした

  6. Theresa Ganainm

I remember thinking that he was going to be so much more than SOCO. He’s grown so much. I’m at least twice his age but his music has always spoken to me. Damn.

  7. Robert Bermudez

really really nice song...touching and wise lyrics

  8. Joe Cole

This is my favorite song from Upside Down Flowers.

Excellent song, again, from A Mchamon and his band

  11. Sh0n

been listening to this album for the entire day, this one got stuck playing in my head

  12. Martin Kraushaar

Great use of the Fleetwood Mac sample (Seven Wonders) in this track.

    Jon Matthews

They just nicked the riff, actually. Subconsciously or otherwise. :P

  13. wrathanet

Out of all the songs he could have sampled, I’d never have expected Konstantine to be one of them.
But it’s definitely not just sampling, it’s a little more, and that’s where the powerful nostalgia comes from.
I think I also hear a little of I’m Ready and Holiday from Real mixed in.

    countingcrows123

Sampling? They're nowhere near the same other than a couple notes

  14. Loved Kat

    It's so good
    I understand

  15. Andrew Milner

    Seven Wonders

    Sarah Foster

OMG YESSSS I THOUGHT THE SAME THING

    Jon Matthews

It's the exact guitar riff from Seven Wonders - Fleetwood Mac. Yup.

  16. C. Campbell

This song gives me Cavanaugh Park vibes back from the Something Corporate days. Anyone else!?

    Issa Mari

    C. Campbell little bit

  17. Christopher Walken

Great song. I'm in the same life stage as Andrew, pretty much all my highschool and college era friends have moved away/had families. We're all too busy now. Connections fade away.

  18. Melissa Peterson

Love this whole album, but this song hits closer to home right now than any of them. <3 Thank you.

  19. Rodrigo Ruiz

I know where the verse coming from but I don’t know the name and it’s not from the rocky movies that I’m referring to

  23. Darren The Tuber

This easily the best song he's written since the Something Corporate days,

  24. Darren The Tuber

The guitar intro is kinda like the saxaphone riff from "who can it be now" from Men at Work

  25. Robin Stevens

Downloaded the album on itunes. Fantastic music! Thank you Andrew :-)

  26. Michael Thielemeier

Favorite song on the album for sure. It’s the kind of song that speaks to your heart. It feels so much like his old stuff and yet still fresh. Love it so much.

    Barry Saey

    Veronica Lloyd exactly!

  30. JustJè

Is it Jami, Jenny, or Janie in the 1st verse? I've seen lyrics that all say differently.
Best song on the album, btw!

    Cicixx

The lyrics are in the description :)

    JustJè

@Cicixx I knew that.... I was just making sure everyone else was paying attention... 😂
No, seriously, I don't know why I didn't even think to look there, ya know, in the most obvious spot, lol! I guess yesterday was just one of those days. 💙 Thanks so much!!

  37. Cicixx

This album so far seems to possess such nostolgia. Hits right in the heart

    Cicixx

This is my favorite song from the album! It's official!!

    Steve Mulholland

@Cicixx the opening part reminds me *musically* of SoCo, I guess the lyrics do too though it seems to be more about Everything in Transit.

    Cicixx

@Steve Mulholland Andrew has stayed true to his roots though he has branched off a bit. That is something I respect about him.

  38. Cicixx

This album omg ♡♡♡ I am almost in tears
