Actually, Jihad means "struggle." It's commonly misinterpreted as holy war because, and I forgot how the phrase actually goes, but because during the Hussein speeches he kept referring to a phrase correctly interpreted as "struggle with swords." Not attacking, just informing.

Jihad is a badly interpreted concept. It only very rarely means holy war - that's the lesser jihad. Like you said, it's a struggle. The greater jihad is the struggle against every day life, and the struggle to survive. It's not a physical crusade. Everybody has their own personal jihad.
