Tbh, i feel like the only person who listens to this and thinks about childhood sexual abuse, and for some reason i hate that thats no ones said it 😂😭 i highkey felt that to my core. Mrs.Robinson makes me think as if she is the symbol of someone who had those dark thoughts and she had a rapist nazi and child pornographer in her tiny heart, her heart was tiny because she seemed like someone everyone loved but he says oh nevermind that she lives in an unforgiving place, and HIS VOICE CRACK HURTS MY SOUL, i cry every time 😂😭😭 not only that but due to my sexual abuse i suffered a bipolar illness, a depression that comes and goes, and a really bad fight or flight mode (i was impulsive asf) and ahhhhh mental illness. Like how tf has this not been mentioned 😭

I think the song is itself more about oxymorons. Bipolar illness in itself is an illness that works with two modes that are polar opposites (manic states and depressive states). Manic depression usually occurs as the manic state in Bipolar illness (now known as manic depressive disorder) but if you take the words literally and not in the context of the disorder, a "manic depression" is essentially an oxymoron

Okay so what I've gathered is that the parasympathetic nervous system line doesn't make any sense, but shouldn't it make perfect sense?

if parasympathetic activates they resting part of the body, and he talks about manic depression in the previous line, does that mean he's just trying to fight off suicidal and depressing thoughts when he's just trying to relax?

Now, manic depression and bipolar illness are both the same thing (and in case you do not know what it is,it is " A disorder associated with episodes of mood swings ranging from depressive lows to manic highs.")
and the fact the he says and your "parasympathethic nervous system reacts" it then switches into your sympathetic nervous system which is your fight-in-flight mode. Like a bipolar illness.

You're wrong. There's a difference. You can have manic depression, that doesn't necessarily mean you have "bipolar illness" bipolar depression is a totally different thing. While mania does come with bipolar disorders what he says is correct. I would know.

he says manic depression and bipolar illness, he doesn't say anything about bipolar depression, the first two ARE the same thing, the last one is one state of the disorder.

​@Kelly Fortier Manic Depression is the old term from dsm 4. There is Bipolar 1, 2, and rapid cycling. These are all different from each other it is just that all these people have gone into an altered type of state known as Mania. Bipolar one is most similar to manic depression in the old psychology literature. Either way debating what Manic Depression is as a term isn't very useful because it is no longer used as a medical term. But basically Bipolar is just anyone who has been manic at least one time in their life. That is all it really is when it comes down to it.

I really like this song. YET:

I'm pretty sure he uses the prefix para separately from sympathetic because he refers to mania and bipolar disorder, para means side by side. It's difficult to understand but sympathetic and parasympathetic are both side by when you're manic depressive. So he is referring to both parasympathetic and sympathetic in one word, to get sympathetic you separate para and sympathetic saying they're side by side, it comes and goes, but right now because of everything you're thinking about you're in fight or flight mode, he's panicking.

He is a genius for this, this one line is so incredibly well thought out because when I listen to the song it sounds as though his entire song started from that line.
