The new songs are great! The thing is people are trying to classify AJJ excuse me but we all know AJJ is not going to find a type of way to write music. They want to write a heavy rock song about kicking the teeth in of some form of beauty? Cool. Want to write a rather odd love song? Nice. But this is AJJ not Twenty One Pilots they have freedom to write what they want when they want as long as it sounds good to them. That's why I love AJJ.

Also real quick people say they say this doesn't sound like AJJ, more ambience and such you realize they are growing? They now have more use for stuff, they can use more things than just a guitar, some drums, and a beer covered mic. They're becoming professional dudes, let them write what they want.

+slug jaws I enjoyed Christmas Island a lot. It kinda felt like the band was changing when Christmas Island came around but it's a lot more mature than their old albums. They really cleaned up a lot of their sound, which was nice.

+AstronautPoptart it smoothed out its transition into a chic hipster band. They really conformed to the hipster audience with Christmas island and bible 2. don't get me wrong, they're good albums, but they're taking away from their signature stylistic music performance. Alot of the audience doesn't really care for the hipster chic style, but I guess change is change.

@Kneesocks Daemon Andrew Jackson's gonna be calling me daddy in a few.

It's a not quite what I expected in the lyrics department (the song's lyrics lack the AJJ, "insert a word that you didn't expect, like "Minutemen song, instead of Minute") and the song over all is a bit too self serious, but I'm thinking this is just a weaker track on the album. I guess we'll find out on the 20th of this month.

@Lilac Mesh I just got the download code (They sent me one because I reordered it on vynil), and i'm going to listen to it later.

Edit: It's a pretty good album, it has all the stuff you'd expect from AJJ, some more upbeat, rock orientated songs (Oh, Goodbye, Cody's Theme, Golden Eagle) some softer songs that focus more on the guitar and Sean's singing (Junkie Church, When I'm a Dead Boy). I think they've done enough to change their sound to make "the Bible 2" stand out as it's own album, but also kept the AJJ tropes that the fans seem to like (Dark, and grotesque lyrics, the good mix of upbeat songs and subtle songs, creative wordplay) to make sure that the album is still definitely Andrew Jackson Jihad, just under a "new" name.

it really does not sound like anything ajj have done yet. more ambient sounding, more narrative lyrics. more generous, normal, un-neurotic feelings. feels like the movie subUrbia a bit. the beer can - love you cause i can thingy sounds a bit cringy on first and second listen tbh. i can hear this being to b2 what coffin dancer or getting naked playing with guns were to xmas island

Also, it sounds like someone lowkey tripping or slightly drunk, with part of the sound coming on weird and indefinite and part really clear and close, esp. sean's voice. damn, i really like how they mixed his voice; kinda wish there was less guitar, just the bass, the voice and the tortured circus keyboard

211 baby

This is kinda what I want to hear from AJJ at this point in their career. Moving forward on their own terms. Christmas Island felt a little too unsure of what it wanted to be (unintentionally so, no doubt) to my ears and the first TB2 single sounded way overproduced on Congleton's behalf. This is simple, sweet, doesn't sound like anything they've done before but retains the wit and cynicism I've always loved in Sean's writing. I wasn't too excited for the new album before but now I can safely say that I'm cautiously anticipating it.
