Andrew Bird - Far From Any Road (Be My Hand) Lyrics
From the dusty mesa
Her looming shadow grows
Hidden in the poison creosote
In the hushing dusk
Under a swollen silver moon
To watch the cactus bloom
She twines her spines up slowly
Towards the boiling sun
And when I touched her skin
My fingers ran with blood
Then rise with me forever
Across the silent sands
And the stars will be your eyes
And the wind will be my hand, will be my hand
A strange hunger haunted me
The looming shadows danced
I fell down to the thorny brush
And felt a trembling hand
And when the last light warms the rocks
And the rattlesnakes unfold
Cats will come to drag away your bones
She twines her spines up slowly
Towards the boiling sun
And when I touched her skin
My fingers ran with blood
Oh, rise with me forever
Across the silent sands
And the stars will be your eyes
And the wind will be my hand, will be my hand

I think this is the best track from an extraordinary album
how didn't i know about this cover/reinterpretation?amazing
I wonder if the Handsome Family will cover one of his songs for an HBO show?
I only say this because his song, Pulanski at Night, was used in the Young Pope, an HBO show, and he just covered the theme song for True Detective, another HBO show.
Unlikely. The HF are very much beating their own path. Plus, tbey just plain write better songs. I think Bird is lovely, but there aren't more than a handful of songs by him that really stick me deep. 'Drunk by Noon' is the only HF song I feel Bird improves on. The original is a dud, and Bird beautifies it. Meanwhile, his beautified catalogue is kind of abstract; style far exceeding substance. I feel likewise with his Townes Van Zandt cover. Prettier maybe, but not as quality. Not as substantial in the guts. Bird flat out photoshops the shadows out of songs. Pretty, but not better. He erases the "in and down" dimensions, making a flatter, more 'shiny' product. Bur at the cost of souls
Better than the original. I love the way he sings it!!!
One day a lot of simpsons fans will be over here
dibrose lol, why?
really great version, never took to a cover like this
This isn't a cover as much as a reinterpretation. I love both!
Many of the other songs on this album are great, but i don't really like this cover. Maybe just in comparison to the original it lacks that dark eeriness. Take a listen to 'My sisters tiny hands' instead
Awesome video! If you get a moment you should check out one of ours! Hope you dig it!
It's hard to get the original The Handsome Family version out of my head when listening to this even though they are quite different.
whoa! I didnt put attention to the name (just clicked any Andrew Bird suggestion) and instantly noticed: true detective!
