It's really amusing to read all the venom poured on Bocelli. I wonder how many of the indignant commentators know the text of this aria, and of the preceding recitative for that matter. This is, in fact, an excellent performance, back when Bocelli was in his prime (long gone, alas). It's different than most, more lyrical and less heroic, but certainly neither inappropriate nor deficient. There have been greater Radameses, with bigger voices and more dramatic delivery. But, boy, have there been a lot worse ones, too!

Poverino Bocelli..gli fan cantare queste meraviglie sapendo di non essere in grado. Come far gareggiare in salto in alto un atleta alto un metro e mezzo. Un Radames cosi manco ad un saggio alle medie si potrebbe ascoltare.

The fact that Bocelli is blind doesn´t make him a great singer. And if he is engaged out of pity, we will probably see Paul Potts as Calaf next time? The audience seems to like it - none of them seems to know what opera really is about ;-)

While I do think Andrea Bocelli is a superb singer in general, in opera the technical glitches are just too noticeable at times(he is technically better now, maybe he can give opera another go?). I have to disagree with your point though, if I go to a restaurant, taste a bad dish and complain about it, is the chef suppose to say:"if you can cook better, why not cook it yourself?".

What makes you think you know what opera is really about?

Altonahh10 wow someone is a bit jealous of this man’s talent it seems . Anyone can hear the incredible voice he has . No one cares that he is blind . No one pities him . He is the best because of who he is and talent he has .

Navid, I wish you would get involved in listening to opera. But it takes time; I mean, months and years. I had been impressed by Bocelli, then I used to love Roberto Alagna (and I still do love him in his appropriate repertoire) and finally discovered the greatest like Corelli, Mario del Monaco, Aragall and a few others. Frankly, I'm only Youtube listener, however I've got some knowledge and spent hours listening to full operas (not single arias). Bocelli is a nice one to start, but pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeee, do not claim he is better than Franco Corelli! It hurts my soul and breaks my heart. Hope someday you'll get it! Nonetheless, greetings from Poland!

Corelli and Gedda were the best tenors of all time. Someone here said Bocelli is higher than Corelli. Kkkk it is a joke.

Now you will notice someone named Dora Bella claiming things about Bocelli, even though his voice has about the same power or more than Lawrence Brownlee who is a very small voice in opera. Size of voice is what she wants to hit Bocelli with here.

Now here is the thing. Bocelli is singing the last bflat with Morendo, like Verdi wrote.

Michael Bolton does the same in his recording of Celeste Aida.

Would it surprise many to know there are not many tenors who sang it like Verdi wrote?
