Anderson, John - The Band Plays On Lyrics
She said, "Let's sit the next one out", and took me by the hand
Led me to the corner and said, "I hope you'll understand"
But it feels like the thrill is gone I don't love you anymore
My ears are still a ringing when you slammed the back door
And the band plays on like nothing ever happened at all
It jingles and jangles and rocks to the rhythm and everybody sings along
Even when the walls start caving in the band plays on
Walked out in dark of the night saw her tail lights disappear
She took her love from me and left me standing here
And I felt like it's the end of the world as I stared down the street
My heart was torn in two but it never missed a beat
And the band plays on even when the teardrops fall
It jingles and jangles and rocks to the rhythm and everybody sings along
Even when the walls start caving in the band plays on
Now don't feel sorry for me till they bring that curtain down
I'm gonna keep on playing my part till my heart strings come around
And the band plays on even when the teardrops fall
And the band plays on like nothing ever happened at all
It jingles and jangles and rocks to the rhythm and everybody sings along
Even when the walls start caving in the band plays on
Even when the rain falls from the sky
Even when there's trouble on the rise
Even when a lover's knot unties the band plays on
Even when your world starts crashing down
Even when your heart strings come unwound
Even when they lay you in the ground the band plays on
And on, and on, and on

Great version of one of Bill Anderson's best songs.
Dam good country music hell yes!!!!!
just reminiscing...
Country singers today try to rap country. Sorry but just don't cut it. Now John Anderson, this is real country. The best in a life time!
Absolutely magnificent version what a voice love it <3
What a heartfelt lyric and it all flows from the title. Among the best of all time.
Siting down and reminiscing....
Great rendition of one of Bill Anderson classic.
..and reminiscing...Yes...
Hello
Just want all to hear the version from David Allan Coe, nobody else comes close to his version.
You can tell Bill Anderson is loving John's performance.
Were talking class sing on John.
great music thanks
My dad is the backup singer in the blue shirt.
Now that’s cool!
Is he a pharmacist to
Ken Urquhart No, Old Man Gower discouraged him.
he sung the hell out of this one. enjoyed.
Right on John, love your music
Well you can just tell that Bill Anderson thought it was every bit as great as I do. John Anderson is the consummate perfectionist. Just great!
BETTER THAN Bills
So much better than the "Hick Hop" country you hear today
👍👍👍
Yeah John!!! Woo!!! :-)
Excellent singer
GREAT GREAT GREAT🎤🎸🎼🎶
Ol John came roofing to what a great singer. I sure am glad he maid it. He has brought us some beautiful songs. Thanks John Anderson and everyone that has made it happen.
GREAT❤
I have this from Jim Reeves .. 5**** ..
Without any doubt one of the best true country songs we will ever hear. Best country band around. None any better with Jimmy and the boys. mos60
Just one simple word describes this man's voice. SUPERB !!
i think john should of recorded this song he does it the best that i've heard...great job
Ok is there anything that he can't sing!
Loved John since first hearing Your Lying Blue Eyes,One of the last batch of real country singers
Let's hear the newbie singers do real country. Everything today sounds alike and sucks
I have to agree with you I grew up with cowboy copas the browns red sovine miss Clooney and the likes the newbies can't hold a candle to them
I just love his voice! I wish that we heard more from him these days.
You nailed it John and thank you, Bill, for writing such a hard core down home country song! Thanks for posting!
God Bless,
Jeff :-)
Great version by John. wow what excellent band backup by Mike, Jimmy, Hank, and Dirks. Jimmy's fill-ins wow no body does it any better. Hank awesome on fiddle. This is such a great song by one of the best country singers around. mosrite60
By God....John does this song better than anybody I have ever heard. This Florida boy has one of the greatest voices in country music.
great job, and a great song, John out does Porter on this one!!!
Fantastic job my dear friend.
unique voice...love it!
jezus is god,s son.
jahweh is god.
+dan dan gosh.
of course I love you sam
lovely love this show
Oh me too, I like Willie's Roadhouse on XM... but lately I've noticed they have been playing alot of the same songs over and over- other than that- they are great.
oh for sure. John A is just so awesome. This song is done perfectly IMO. Porter also a superb version. But I think the CFR band edges John slightly ahead of Porter. Great song by both. Country radio has basically gone south since 90's as you put it. I never listen unless its Sirus/XM country playing the "Classics"
John Anderson doesn't get the recognition he deserves because radio turns it's back on it's finest entertainers when they hit 40 or so. We have legends like Jones, Cash & others because radio didn't turn it's back on those folks until way later in their career's. In the 90's radio changed forever- pushing for all this mass produced alternative sameness, & telling folks like John Anderson they are "too country".
I'd rather hear John than anything that passes for country on todays radio.
KLUNKET Well put and Jon does not need any autotune.
not bad but porter wagonner is much better
Lucky man? Lol Coome
Bill Anderson just absorbing the great talent of John's singing Excellent version
I assume Bill Anderson wrote this heartbreak song? John Anderson juast such a superb entertainer. He does not enough recognition
Simply fantastic!
One thing is certain...the CFR band do not need day jobs!
Good stuff; thanks for sharing. And that's Hank Singer on fiddle rather than Joe.
Excellent version. There are so many versions of this song that I have not heard them all. Even with the ones I have heard, I still could not honestly pick a favorite. Thanks for this one.
Lovely Version, but I still Feel The Legendary Jim Reeves' Version of This Classic is The Best!!!
Great version
metalhead665 I totally agree with you no one can compare with Jim Reeves.Jim had a special way with his voice that nobody will ever have again. I also believe that Bill Anderson would say the same.
