Anberlin - God, Drugs & Sex Lyrics
A grand blank look on your face
When you learned it was over
Do you ever question why?
What could have been different?
We were so comfortable
I was dying from within
'Cause God, drugs, and sex don't mean a thing
To you now, do they now baby?
I don't mean anything
By it now, do I now sweetheart?
You should have thought about then for now
God drugs and sex don't mean a thing
To you now, do they now baby?
You should have thought about then for now
I've gotta leave
Tell me where did you learn to love?
(Maybe you don't want to know)
Tell me when did your hands grow cold?
(It might tell you something)
If you could go back to yesterday
Would you change it all for me?
If you thought we could be together,
Would you believe that
God, drugs, and sex don't mean a thing
To you now, do they now baby?
I don't mean anything
By it now, do I now sweetheart?
You should have thought about then for now
God, drugs and sex don't mean a thing
To you now, do they now baby?
You should have thought about then for now
But I've gotta leave
I've gotta leave
Did you not hear me coming around alone?
Did you not see me coming along the way?
Where the bright lime lights are leading you astray
Where the bright lime lights to grant you a way from your love
I don't mean anything
(Did you not hear me coming around alone?
Did you not see me coming along the way?
Where the bright lime lights are leading you astray
Where the bright lime lights to grant you a way from your love)
Would you change it all for me?
Let go, let go of me
I'm not here
Let go, let go of me now
'Cause I'm already gone

Break up song
Is it just me or is that one of the Dupree girls from Eisley providing the female vocals?
yep! (well one of their sisters) Christie lol
Sorry for the stupid question, but is this a Christian song?
Alright thanks, as a Christian myself, I just wanted to make sure I was listening to the right music. I thought they were Christian band, just not the kind that preaches a lot.
Er, what exactly do you mean by "the right music"?? That seems like a rather pompous thing to say... There is no "right kind" of music. Music is music, whether it's light rock or apocalyptic death metal or bluegrass nostalgic country or v a p o r w a v e. It's merely a matter of personal taste.
Dragon Master
I didn't mean it like that! I meant the music that's right for me. I'm not saying there is a "wrong" type of music, because that's not for me to judge. I'm sorry I gave you the wrong idea.
Oh, sorry I took it the wrong way! ^-^;
As was mentioned, Anberlin has stated that they're not a religious band. Actually Stephen (the lead singer) set up a tumblr before they broke up which lists the correct lyrics to the songs and talks about what each song meant to him or to the band- of course, their meaning needn't be yours. You can find it here: http://anberlinlyrics.tumblr.com/
That said, I would say that they do have a few songs which are expressly religious (Hearing Voices, miserable visu, and Cadence especially), but they also discussed themes which no Christian band would touch with a ten-foot pole. That's definitely a big part of why they're my favorite band.
I just typed sex and drugs and this came up
I wish the lyrics were correct...did you really think he was talking about an ashtray? It's "leading you astray"
thanks for posting though, great song.
+Kelda Strasbourg I wasn't aware there was a typo. Were you referring to the line at 3:08? It doesn't look misspelled to me..
That said, I'm aware that the first line should say "Grand Blanc" instead of "grand blank".
So nice of you to post this song ... Cheers !
i dont undestand the meaning but i like the song, .. #ilikeanberlin
@josue espinosa It's saying that the person in the song doesn't care about God, Drugs, or Sex, but the real underlying issue, is that they don't care about God.
The way I see it, there's a growing distance between two lovers and now God, drugs, and sex no longer matter to one of them.
+EJ ED (carro loco) This said the one who wrote it:
"When you meet someone and the chemistry is strong give it time to find the true nature behind these newly found mutual feelings; what matters is character and the central values between partners.
You may be attracted to the other person but rifts arise when there are massive differences in the core makeup in who you believe yourself to be; these core values can be such topics as belief in God, drug use, money, goals, dreams, and abstinence. ’Know thyself’, then learn them."
