Amy Grant - O Love That Will Not Let Me Go Lyrics

O love that will not let me go
I rest my weary soul in Thee
I give Thee back the life I owe
That in thine ocean depths its flow
My richer, fuller be

O Light that followest all my way
I yield my flickering torch to Thee
My heart restores its borrowed ray
That in thy sunshines glow its day
May brighter, fairer be

O Joy you seek me through the pain
I cannot close my heart to thee
I trace the rainbow through the rain
And feel the promise is not vain
That morn shall tearless be

Anything that brings people closer to the Lord is good, but she’s cutting it mighty close with this performance. I love the hymn though.

I'll be over 50 tomoro. Amy, you encouraged my faith many many years ago, as a young high school girl who loved to sing and even recorded some songs at The Parlor Studios on Music Row. Saw your foto on the wall with your husband and your radiant face. Onward, keep on with the race my sister.

Love That Will Not Let Me Go
George Matheson was born in Glasgow, the eldest of eight children. He had only partial vision as a boy. By the age of twenty he was completely blind. When his fiancée learnt he was going blind and that there was nothing the doctors could do, she told him she could not go through life with a blind man. He never married.
He was helped by a devoted sister throughout his ministry. She learnt Greek, Latin and Hebrew in order to aid him in his studies. Despite his blindness, Matheson had a brilliant career at the Glasgow Academy, University of Glasgow and the Church of Scotland Seminary.
When he was forty years old, something bittersweet happened. His sister married. Not only did this mean that he lost her companionship – it also brought a fresh reminder of his own heartbreak. In the midst of this intense sadness, on the eve of his sister’s marriage, he wrote one of the most popular and best loved hymns of the Christian church – ‘O Love That Wilt Not Let Me Go’. He completed the whole work in five minutes and never edited, corrected or retouched it. ‘This came,’ he wrote, ‘like a dayspring from on high.’
O Joy that seekest me through pain,
I cannot close my heart to thee;
I trace the rainbow through the rain,
And feel the promise is not vain,
That morn shall tearless be.
Troubles are part of life. Jesus faced trouble and so did the apostles, David and all the people of God. However, as Matheson’s hymn beautifully articulates, troubles do not have the last word.
    Psalm 71:19-24
    1. Restored after many troubles
God does not promise you an easy path. Life at times can be extremely hard. The psalmist has seen ‘troubles, many and bitter’ (v.20). His troubles, pressures and worries were not occasional or trivial. They were numerous and serious. He gives you a model of how to respond in these circumstances.

Story of how the blind Scottish pastor penned the words to this song is so interesting!  George Matheson is an inspiring example of a pastor who continued in God's way even though blindness took his eyesight and the love of his life told him she could not be married to a man going blind....and curtly broke up with him.

    "SO POWERFUL"!.

O Love, how could we refuse such everlasting loving kindness? O How, could you find us in our ugliness and choose our broken souls? It could only be that you are Good and full of Grace.

The love of the Lord Jesus Christ is THE ONLY love which can be trusted. NO OTHER LOVE can match the love which our Saviour bestows on us. He proclaims:
"For your Maker is your husband,
    the Lord of hosts is his name;
and the Holy One of Israel is your Redeemer,
the God of the whole earth he is called.
For the Lord has called you
like a wife deserted and grieved in spirit,
like a wife of youth when she is cast off,
    says your God." Isaiah 54:5-6

May His name forever be praised!

I will alwas love Amy Grant. No matter what she's been thru. She's a human being and she's been just real and transparent and true and real with her struggles. I respect her and have always wished I could have married her ... we ARE all just lights pointing to a much larger light. OUrs flickers and sometimes grows dim...including Amys' and DAvid Meeces' ...But Jesus's light will never grow dim. So let us never lose heart of pursuing HIM and His Kingdom.

Thank you very much. I am glad you enjoyed the video. I had not noticed that I had an A instead of an O in the title. I changed it. Thank you for notifying me regarding it. (*_*)

I love this song from this album. BTW, it's called "O Love That Will Not Let Me Go." It's an old hymn.

Hallo there - I have not uploaded Sweet Will of God. Sometimes, as was the case with this video, they get blocked worldwide by Warner Music Group. This video was blocked for a whole year before they released it. It could very well be uploaded somehwere, but could be blocked. Or it might just not be uploaded anywhere.

  24. o.... ....

Is Sweet Will of God uploaded yet?

  25. o.... ....

LOVE, LOVE this cover of a great hymn. Thanks for posting.

  26. h.... ....

I liked the old version of wmm on XP and did my first videos using it - then they wrecked it on the new windows 7 and took away many features. And yeah, you'd think if one song is released from bondage others on the same albums should be safe but that's thinking logically and this is WMG and Youtube we're talking about. Good luck.

  27. B.... H....

Thanks Rob. It was made with good old Windows Movie Maker, way before I got the Magix Movie Edit Pro software I have now. I became quite an expert at manipulating Movie Maker, and I managed to "move" pictures with their effects that I don't have on Magix.

With Warner Music Group unblocking this song, I am encouraged to make videos of other songs on that CD, as it is a brilliant CD indeed. I'll give it a try and see what happens.

  28. h.... ....

Good selection of photos Liz. WMG's blocking policies are a mystery - one day it's blocked, the next day it's fine. It would be interesting to know who makes the decision and on what basis a song is blocked/unblocked.

  29. B.... H....

Thank you Warner Music Group for releasing this video. I am grateful.
