Amos, Tori - Nautical Twilight Lyrics

As the day gave way
To nautical twilight
I turned
My back on
The force of which I was made
I abandoned it
Rupturing the delicate balance
When I left my world for his
Day after day
As my city fades
And is swallowed by his sea
She is boundless
Even breaking on the beach
Every hour commenced
No fusion and fission
Can unify or drive a force to split
He has been possessed
To drink of the spices
From the east by his liquid mistress
Which then pushed me into the lair
Of uranium, she divides time between
Greed and his twin, tyranny
Day after day
Cities all betrayed
And the earth, his songs lay their blade
She is boundless
But by then she has been frayed
As the night gives way
To nautical dawn I can see
I must activate the force of which I'm made

Tori Amos is divine! Both musical arrangement of Mendelssohn's song and the words are stunning! Interpretation is beyond perfection, both musical and video. A unique masterpiece of an exquisite and exalted romanticism, which is almost impossible to imagine in our days! This is what lets us all still breathe. THANK YOU, Tori!

  11. t.... ....

    Beautiful performance, undecoded lyrics.
May the force be with you Tori.

  18. M.... ....

Perfect. She's giving her best in singing, playing, being pure and natural and acting all at once.

  20. E.... ....

Elle est belle, elle chante et joue ! ..
Mais son "jeu de scène" me fait froid dans le dos !!

  21. l.... ....

yeah it's really easy to find this info on the net - exactly! it's well known that her hair is naturally brown. there's even an interview with her where she said she wished she could have had red hair naturally, but her family just didn't have the genes for it. you're deluding yourself.

  22. l.... ....

ok if that's what you want to believe...

  23. l.... ....

she's a natural brunette, not a redhead. I guess you are the last one to know that.

  24. J.... R....

I love Tori, I like the song very much but the video is horrible

    J.... R....

Jazzybit Rouvier it is terrible haha

  25. J.... W....

Who doesn't dye their hair now adays? Most famous people do, doesn't make them any less talented!

  26. p.... ....

when she turned on Bree Van de Kamp, her music get boring

  27. V.... ....

    /watch?v=Sx-XsVvGZl8

  28. a.... ....

This song speaks directly to Jeanie and Major Nelson from "I Dream of Jeanie"and Samantha and Darren from "Bewitched". It's funny how both men wanted those women to be human when they were not. That would not fly today.

  29. l.... ....

@SuccubusinTraining a strong soul overcomes self-destruction and moves past it. a strong soul looks for the god/goddess within. if you make another human being your "goddess" you are making yourself subservient and you are throwing your power away.

  30. S.... P....

@leschatsmusicale Lol! Abnormally attracted. It takes a strong soul to live in that, to continue looking in the mirror after you've seen the worst. That is why Tori is a Goddess.....

  31. S.... P....

@leschatsmusicale Lol such a petty comment about a Goddess. Stop it.

  32. l.... ....

@shtomer yes she writes about self destruction, and shame and violence, pretty much the worst of the worst in human experience. but she also writes about transcending self destruction. each album takes a journey through it and comes out the other side again, back into self acceptance. that is more spiritual than anything you will find in new age philosophy. I just don't know why she keeps going back to the self-destruction. she is abnormally attracted to it.

  33. l.... ....

@shtomer a writer's beliefs, choices, experiences, lifestyle, personality, worldview etc. all inform their work. all of that is woven into her music. her spirituality too. so I don't see it as two different realms at all. personally, maybe I'm getting old, but I find the older I get, the less I want to listen to music coming from a place I don't relate to. there are lots of artists I've stopped listening to, not just her, because I don't relate to them anymore.

  34. m.... ....

Tori u are a goddess!!!! I LOVE YOU

  35. s.... ....

@leschatsmusicale Yeah, Enya. And what I meant was new age spirituality, bla bla be in touch with yourself and the god within you. I don't even know what spirituality is, really. But I do know Tori's songs are filled with self-destructiveness. Talking about blood and murders and hurting yourself and abortions and suicides. So I don't get the operation either, but what does it have to do with the music? Two different realms.

  36. l.... ....

@shtomer tori's music is very much about spirituality. and did you mean Enya?

  37. s.... ....

@leschatsmusicale Gimme a break. Half her music is about self destructiveness. If we'd want songs about spirituality we'd hear Anya.

  38. E.... B....

This piece is not a Tori Amos piece. The music is Mendelssohn's "Song Without Words" Op. 30 in F-Sharp Minor for piano. It's a lovely piece and now there are words! Tori improved it, but I do like original Tori better =)

  39. l.... ....

@POTATOEMPN if she has talent because she is a "Ginger", are you trying to say her talent comes from a bottle? because that's where her "ginger" comes from.

  40. P.... ....

I am sorry to leave such an immature response on here... But this video is proof that just because she is a Ginger, and is inhumanly beautiful... she still has talent. More talent than most people will ever have, or hope to achieve.

  41. L.... L....

@gonglamm Are you insane? She's beautiful.

  42. l.... ....

I just can't relate to someone who would do that to their own face. doesn't really matter to me what her personal reasons were, maybe she found it self-affirming. I see it self-destructive. people are judgmental because it lets us know where we stand on things.

  43. F.... ....

    *indifferent about facelift*
I would love her music no less if she had a bit of age about her. Although the lightly seductive undertone makes me "=\" to the point where I can't actually watch the vid.
    That voice, though...

  44. L.... J....

@thetarotproject9 yeah, i thought the same thing. i still like her but i was surprised that she bought into that.

  45. f.... ....

@leschatsmusicale Fuck jealous women, no woman should have the right to scrutinise anyone on the way they look! The world would be a much better place if some women kept their thoughts to themselves instead of foisting their self-hatred onto others.

  46. f.... ....

Forget the visual aspect, just focus on the music. This is incredibly beautiful and heartrending music, possibly her best work since "Professional Widow". <3

  47. z.... ....

@thetarotproject9 I don't think that there is a conflict between her radicalness and the fact that she has made a facelift. How do you know she's made it because of men and not to feel better herself? I think Tori is a very strong personality and has not to define herself through other people, at least not more than anybody else. I love her and I think, make-up, lifting and wearing red-couloured hair have nothing to do with personality ;).

  48. T.... ....

@thetarotproject9 It surprised me too coming from tori, but then I thought she's human and has her insecurities.and aging is one of them...maybe it also has to do with terms of mortality...women and gay men are subjected to youth and beauty standards in cruel proportions that even a strong woman like Tori can be affected by it. I think the only part I can complaint about it is that her big blue eyes are ruined..she looks semi-asian with those eyes..if they could fix that it would be awesome.

  49. l.... ....

@thetarotproject9 she was never really such a radical woman to begin with. people have it backwards, she is not caving in and conforming to external pressures. she is just acting on her own value system. all her songs and her statements in interviews told us what she believed in and what she would do. she is driven by jealousy of other women.

  50. D.... Z....

Beautiful voice. I love the demo I heard of her singing with her daughter when I was listening to the radio. Very lovely song but I can't recall the title.

  51. D.... Z....

@tummylub Women have life a lot easier these days than they realize and I'm sick and tired of reading posts in every video on the internet and ALWAYS finding someone who wants to be looked at as the victim. People need to realize what they DO have, and they need to stop being so damn whiny about every little thing in life. I hate how everyone is super sensitive and complains when in reality life is great and you all just need to sit the fuck down (for lack of a better term) and realize it.

  52. D.... Z....

@tummylub They judge the woman they are seeing. They judge what she is wearing. The judge how her hair and make up look. They judge how skinny or fat she is. Men DO NOT do that. Men are too simple for the most part. All they see is meat they can pound. I'm sick of feminists blaming all there issues on men like blacks blame there issues on racist white people. It's completely false. There are more women now in management than men now. Women get away with murder these days. (continued)

  53. D.... Z....

@tummylub Women sure are funny... especially the activist types. They scream from the highest mountain tops of how men are the one who judge them, and how they are still treated poorly etc etc. Feminists sure are contradictory. Women judge other women more so then men. Men do not care as much as women like to think. Men are desperate enough for the most part that they would date an elephant. What do women first start talking about when they see other women who are famous? (continued)

  54. L.... B....

@thetarotproject9 Yes, it was strange. She got eye and facelift and what not. She looked great before and would have grown old beautifully even with her wrinkles. What a pity.

  55. j.... ....

I LOVE THIS WOMAN...Hands down best live performer I've ever seen.. :)

  56. s.... ....

no no, she has found herself once again.

  57. Y.... J....

why is she imitating Kate Bush?

  58. J.... B....

@SimonCU Sheesh, read the liner notes, buddy. Proper credit WAS given.

  59. J.... B....

@lrsul1 Obviously, you think she's talented, and worth your while, if you're on here. So, then, what IS her best work, in your opinion? Might be nicer to say what you LIKE than what you don't like. It's insulting to Tori, and to the people who cherish all of the music she's brought into our lives. Also, just because something doesn't sound right to you doesn't mean it's sloppy. Listen to pop radio if u want slicker non-sloppy songs. That's what auto-tune and computer savvy producers are for ;)

  60. J.... B....

@lrsul1 And how many syllables does is take to say "America" in Pretty Good Year? She's using artisitc license--NOT sloppy writing. Also, no one said it wasn't based on Mendelssohn. That's like complaining that she didn't write the songs on Strange Little Girls. Either way, she made them her own, and no one would ever confuse Tori's versions with the originals. Pele has been my fave album for so long, however, listening to them back to back, I think she's gotten better with age :)

  61. J.... B....

@lrsul1 I've been a fan for 20 yrs. I listen to Tori's music almost every day. She's had her ups and downs, but even I have to admit that this is Tori at her best. The maturity of her voice, lyrics, piano are so rare to find, because most artists seem to burn out long before they reach 48. I'm sure jaded fans will one day realize that Tori's gifts to the world deserve more than the knee-jerk reaction people like you give them. BTW her "straining" of the lyrics is nothing new to Tori--or to music

  62. V.... ....

I love this song. And the album! One of her best records.

  63. m.... ....

I LOVE when she turns to the camera...her eyes are amazing

  64. S.... ....

The tune was originated from Mendelssohn Songs without words? How come not credit was made to him?

  65. B.... ....

yeahhhhh I love Tori so Much <3 ''I Must Activate The Force Of Witch I Am Made...''

  66. A.... ....

I hope it is not another soundtrack for the film

  67. J.... ....

WTH is this DGG? an album like this by DGG? are you kidding me?

  68. D.... W....

Thanks for uploading!! This is my favorite on the album.
