Amos, Tori - Marianne Lyrics

Tuna
Rubber
A little blubber in my igloo
And I knew you pigtails and all
Grils when they fall
And they said Marianne killed herself
And I said not a chance
Don't you love the girls ladies babes
Old bags who say she was so pretty why
Why why why did she crawl down in the old
Deep ravine

C'mon pigtails girls and all those sailors
Get your bags and hold down won't you just
Hold down cause Ed is watching my every sound
I said
They're watching my every sound

The weasel squeaks faster than a seven day week
I said Timmy and that purple Monkey
Are all down
At Bobby's house
Making themselves pesters and lesters and jesters an dmy
Traitors of kind
And I'm just having thoughts of Marianne
She could outrun the fastest slug
She could
Marianne
Quickest girl in the frying pan

Amos, Tori Marianne Comments
  1. F.... G....

big ups to all the grown women who 20 years ago had to memorize their "favorite backstreet boy" in case other girls asked but really when you were alone playing music it was just Tori on a loop

I recently lost a close friend and this song now resonates with me so hard.

    'At Bobby's house
Making themselves pesters and lesters and jesters and my
    Traitors of kind
And I'm just having thoughts of Marianne'...the vocal pause and music taking over before the last line makes it so pregnant and authentic. The world goes on and sometimes we take a pause and remember who and what was, everyone around us oblivious.

I get tears listening to this. So beautifully written and performed.

If any one one person thought I'd forgotten this revenge- you would be wrong. This has been my last call song for over 25 years. My mother and her sisters went to school with both 'Marianne' (not her real name) and Myra Ellen......This song is raw cus its true.

Gosh this song makes me think of the girl who was my friend and secret crush throughout Jr high and high school... She killed herself because of the bullying she faced for being gay. I wonder what would have happened if I told her I was the same... God I wish she could have made it. She was a beautiful person, she would have done great things. I will never forget her and her creativity, laugh, smile, and thoughts about humanity. Kids are horrible, you were so, so much better.

  6. M.... ....

    Pesters and lesters and jesters!

  7. S.... C....

2:00 - that's the climax of the song, that piano solo.

  8. S.... C....

Most beautiful song on 'Boys...', alongside 'Putting The damage On'

    S.... C....

    Also Doughnut song!!

I totally agree - those two songs really stand out. I listened to the deluxe version of this album, recently; 'Alamo' and 'Hey Jupiter - The Dakota Version' are as good ...

I'm sure there's deeper meaning here ... but, I mean, come on: "tuna rubber" "a little blubber in my igloo" "weasel squeaks faster than a seven day week"

    M.... K....

come on, what?? SO many great/"genius" bands and artists (REM, led zeppelin, the beatles, to name a just few) have plenty of seemingly nonsensical lyrics, too.
for example: "Crabalocker fishwife, pornographic priestess...i am the egg man / i am the walrus"
but, like tori, they also have insanely poignant and totally direct lyrics, as well – often in the same song.

i personally love that tori often infuses her songs with both intimately(/enigmatically) personal and universally relatable lyrics.

Tori Amos is the sound of my childhood and one of the best poets to ever write music. I love you tori.
