Amos, Tori - Here. In My Head Lyrics

In my head I found you there
And running around and following me
But you don't dare
But I find that I have now more than I ever wanted to

So maybe Thomas Jefferson wasn't born
In your backyard like you have said
And maybe I'm just the horizon you run to
When she has left you there

You are here in my head
And running around and calling me
"Come back I'll show you the roses that brush off the snow
And open their petals again and again"
And you know that apple green ice cream can melt in your hands
I can't so I held your hand at the fair
And even forgot what time it was

And even if Thomas Jefferson wasn't born
In your backyard like you have said
And maybe I'm just the horizon you run to
When she has left you and me here alone on the floor

You're counting my feathers as the bells toll
You see the bow and belt and the girl from the south
All favorites of mine, you know them all well

And spring brings fresh little puddles
That makes it all clear, makes it all
Do you know
Do you know what this is doing to me

Here
Here
Here
Here in my head

@MeMe QuEeN i had the silent all these years cd single, here in my head was one of three tracks on it, i bought it so i could hear it and i wasnt disappointed, it gives me chills to this day, the best was the winter cd maxi single with 5 songs, all of the extra songs were not on little earthquakes but they were all just as good, she was on fire back then

Bravo!!  This song is already extremely intense for me but the lyrics, especially at the end, really drive it home even more.  Thanks for putting this one together!!!

Everything I read online, and the lyric video here on youtube said "But you don't, oh, dare now" But I'm sorry, I don't hear that (and I tried) I just hear "But you don't dare" stretched out. And unless Tori Amos herself comes here and tells me I'm wrong, I'm sticking to my guns. It's just me....and a gun... :D

@TonyTube407 In all seriousness, thank you so much for suggesting this. I don't know how I missed this song all these years, but it has quickly become one of my favorite songs ever...this is absolutely amazing!! *sigh* ... I love it..

@Matt Jones That's awesome!!!! Amazing songs are what life is all about.

It is "here, here, here, here in my head".

Tori loves to sing the word "here". It's featured prominently in several songs. :)

As per the first non-bootleg version—live, one from the UK/Australian Past the Mission single, the other from the Australian/Japanese release of More Under the Pink—the line is “...but you don’t dare end it.” ALSO—that particular live rendition is hands down the most beautiful/powerful. The piano is as lyrical as her vocals are genuine...ANYWHO.

    M.... J....

I had the B-sides Under the Pink over 20 years ago and appreciate your last statement as much as your quoted correction.  I, myself, believe that her piano sings a melody unlike any other and her lyrics describe the indescribable.

I wait all day for my sailor
    And sometimes he comes
See you over hill and dale
    Riding on the wind
    I see(k)
    You know me
You know me like the nightingale
"Oh fair maiden, I see you standing there
oh will you hold me for just a fair (fae?) time?
The tune is playing in the fae (fair?) night."
I see you in my dreams
Fair boy your eyes haunt me.
