Amos, Tori - Carbon Lyrics

carbon made found her at the
end of a chain "time to race"
she said "race the downhill"
behind crystalline irises
loons can drive
where the world bleeds white
just keep your eyes on her
keep
don't look away
keep your eyes on her horizon
bear claw free fall
a gunner's view black and blue
shred in ribbons of lithium
blow by blow
her mind cut in sheets
layers deep now unravelling
just keep your eyes on her.
get me neil on the line
no i can't hold
have him read "snow glass apples"
where nothing is what it seems
"little sis you must crack this"
he says to me
"you must go in again carbon
made only wants to be unmade"
blade to ice it's
double diamond time
and keep your eyes on her
on her eyes on her horizon

Amos, Tori Carbon Comments

Brilliant song - and lyrics --

Pancake - anyone who has studied 9/11 will understand what is meant by the term "Pancake" when it comes to the detonations that cascaded down the buildings - cutter charges igniting pulling the WTC Towers down in less than 12.5 seconds (all 3 of them... including Building #7 -- which very few people knew about). Here's a video to go with the song. More people should see this --

16 years old (1996) never heard of Tori Amos. It was the summer of 1996 and just the beginning of my family’s move to the other side of the country. We had stopped by relatives for a short visit on the way over. They had MTV (my parents always had that channel blocked - back in those days you could.) Up late nursing the wounds and weeping over my loss of familiarity, friends and my first love to a whole other world it seemed. Turned on the TV, who was on, it was her. MTV Unplugged w/ Tori Amos. She was playing “Blood Roses.” I was hooked from that moment on. There was just something about her intensity. I was connected with her and it was all I could hear. I recall hearing “Cornflake Girl” before and really loved that song but they didn’t play it very often, so I could never figure the name of the song or who sang it. We didn’t have Google in 1994-1996. You couldn’t do a Google song lyrics search like you can now. Tori was main staple of my young adult life and although she sings in backspeech and is completely in defiance of her upbringing, I still find myself going back on occasion. Carbon was one of my favorite songs. I lost track of Tori after this album. I have grown up and have had children of my own, but she will always be a fond memory of a time that was unbearable. She sang me through it. Listening now, it’s hard to pinpoint what her songs are about (Backspeech - tuna, rubber, little blubber in my igloo?) so it is more difficult to sing with emotion or be moved but I sure do remember at the time loving that I could twist her nonsensical lyrics into something fitting over my life’s circumstances. Maybe that is the outcome of what a true artist can do. Relate on any perspective, I know where her stance is and I am sorry to know of whom she has sold her soul too, but she has an amazing talent and a beautiful voice. She also started RAINN due to her own personal trauma, so I appreciate her drive to empower victims.

Heather Lucero I hear you! I’m 42 now, it was Under the Pink that found me first- then Pele. I was extremely lonely and unsure of myself at school. I knew I was gay but never thought I’d escape from my small town or ever meet anyone. Looking back, those albums really inspired me to feel I was worth something and to find hope that the future would be ok (it was, eventually). And here I am, still listening to Tori now and reminded of a thousand different times when she was the soundtrack to my life.

I was drunk and sent Scarlet's Walk to my 95 year old grandmother. She loved it. Proving how awesome she was. "She can sing. Such pretty piano music."

IMHO, "Scarlet's Walk" is an absolute triumph - up there w "Boys for Pele" which saved my life. This is a GLORIOUS work of art - I adore you, Tori! <3

I've been to the church in Ireland where she recorded most of Boys For Pele. Worth going to. Church of Ireland in Delgany, County Wicklow.

i must be the only one who things BFP is so over hyped... it's bloated, too long and boring.
