Amos, Tori - Bang Lyrics

Bang went the gun on their tongue
Word crucifixion toward immigrants shunned
"Immigrants that's who we all are
'Cause we're all made of stars"
You said to them
Oh yes you did

Bang went the universe
Hydrogen lusting for Helium's burst
A mighty Sun's Dance of Death
Exploding Super Nova
One story's end
Seeds another to begin

Then the Heavens opened
And then I heard voices
Joined in Hosannas
Breathlessly I saw your star

So bright it blinded me
I had to shield my eyes
So bright it blinded me
I had to shield my eyes
So bright it blinded me
I had to shield my eyes

And then you took my hand
Oh yes you did

Bang the world now traumatized
By a cluster of hostile humans who side
With their warlords of hate
So we must out-create
With the the Backbone of Night
To Rehumanize

Then the Heavens opened
And then I heard voices
Joined in Hosannas
And their tower of confusion
Could not drown the light
From your star

So bright it blinded me
I had to shield my eyes
So bright it blinded me
I had to shield my eyes
So bright it blinded me
I had to shield my eyes

And then you lit the path
Oh yes you did

"Can't they see"
He said to me
"That we all
Are Molecular Machines"
Goals and dreams
All I wanna be
Is the very best
Machine I can be

Oxygen and Carbon
Part of
Our Molecular Machine
Goals and dreams
All I wanna be
Is the very best
Machine I can be

Hydrogen
Calcium
Phosphorus
Potassium
Sulfur
Sodium
All I wanna be
Is the very best
Machine I can be

Chlorine
Magnesium
Boron
Chromium
Cobalt
Copper
Fluorine
All I wanna be
Is the very best
Machine I can be

Iodine
Iron
Manganese
Molybdenum
Selenium
Silicon
Tin
Vanadium
And Zinc
All I wanna be
A Molecular Machine

And no, I do 'not' want to be 'just a molecular machine'... what a dismal sentiment. The mechanistic paradigm that sees the world, animals, and humans as soulless automatons is 'over'. Fully a Rupert Sheldrake girl. And woulda thought higher of Tori than to endorse this obsolete and soul destroying notion.

She doesn’t “want to be ‘just’ a molecular machine.” She sings “we all are molecular machines, goals and dreams.” This whole song, and most of the songs on the album, and many of the songs throughout her career, focus more on spirituality and soul than on the material world. She’s saying that the universe is made out of base materials arranged differently—yet all the same, and shared among different manifestations—that exist to empower the realization of goals and dreams. “All I want to be is the best machine I can be”—because that machine works in service to the realizing of goals and dreams. At the beginning of the album, she makes a pilgrimage to a shaman (the reindeer king) to plead for her mother’s bodily life to be saved. That’s an appeal to someone in touch with the immaterial world to ask the shaman to intervene to save her mother’s “molecular machine” and keep her alive. The song and the album in no way reduce being to mechanics.

@DavidMichaelCommer yes, indeed! I also see it in spiritual context. "Bright light of the star" - brings Soul to mind. "We are all immigrants here" - the souls are travelling. "All I wanna be is the best machine I can be" - to fulfill our mission here. .. And many other associations. Absolutely gorgeous lyrics! And stunning composition!! ❤

Easy for her to say, tucked safely away in Cornwall and Florida, with a safe million dollars in the bank. Look what Merkel has done to my country Germany, and how any criticism of migrant policy is immediately attempted to be kneejerked shut with defamations of "Nazi" and "xenophobia". This song is a great composition, but the sentiment of the lyrics is angeringly ignorant, bleeding heart tripe. Hence, to my utter disappointment, I cannot, as much as I've come back and tried to, enjoy this song.

Then the Imperial Germany invaded african countries, claiming that they were their colonies AND stole their natural resources and possibilities of development. Today, imperalist countries are still invading and supporting those invasions under false premisses. People are being bombed. They're being left to starve to death. They're living under corrupted systems as consequence of actions of the First World Countries. So, people are running away of the mess your country contributed to create and you point that the biggest problem is how you are going to get rid of them? Native Invader is a masterpiece though. It's about understanding vulnerability and using it to be stronger.

The tower of confusion is suggestive of the Txxxp Tower and its people now getting convicted one by one... Could not drown the light from your stars ♬ I like Russia, a bonus track as well "... Is Stalin on your shoulder? "
