Amos Lee - Song For Tops Lyrics
I'll never see a sunset in Cuba
And after all my work has been done
I thought that this would be my last move but
My song was not meant to be sung
I'll never feel that warm summer air
I've lived a life that kings would've killed for
But still there's more love I can bear
So if you ever spend a night in Havana
A ravenesque beauty you see
Whisper my name so my flame will burn
Eternally
I'll never see a sunset in Cuba
I'm dreaming of her now while I'm drifting
She's lifting me out of my pain
So if you ever spend a night in Havana
See the light in a young child's eyes
Just whisper my name so my flame
Will burn in that sunrise

Amos Lee Song For Tops Comments
LOVE. This could have been a Donny Hathaway song.
I became a fan a couple years ago after hearing him on YT. Got a chance to see him in Nashville last year and enjoyed the show. I agree that there seems to be a darker tone to some of his songs including this one. However this song is special and has also become one of my favorites if not my favorite from Amos. Simply beautiful.
Amos Lee has been my favorite singer for several years but I've started to notice way too many dark songs and political songs and I didn't expect anything from his new deluxe album to have anything really worth listening to; but this song immediately became my favorite song of his in recent years and is perhaps the most beautiful of all the songs he has ever song. Unfortunately I think this gem will stay under the radar and will not be even heard by most, let alone appreciated.
