American Football - Desire Gets In The Way Lyrics

Desire gets in the way
You can't hide such an ugly trait
I know it's not easy
When everything you want's within in your reach
But better the bed you know than the bed that you don't

This fire burns incessantly
I can't lie, I kind of like the pain
I know you'll put it out
You always put it out before it consumes me

For you, I'll remain
Chained to the bed we made
But I get to choose your lingerie
We'll lie here forever like condemned criminals on trial
I'm down for whatever
The uglier, the better

    2:07 <3

  3. Verity Simone

Fave AF song. I don't understand all the LP2 hate.

  4. Ben Smerglia

I've literally just been pressing play again on this for the past 4 hours

  5. Brian Lombera

I remember when the did the tour in Los Angeles for the first time in years and they wanted to play in someones house. I was number two. So mad my house didn't get picked but still love this band.

  6. Maogi

    this track is a grower

  7. Ryan Bergen

    these lyrics... wow.

    Bridger Weatherston

    Ryan Bergen yes, agreed

  8. Mercury Adams

Look Mexico and American Football sounds alike here. Haha! So much it's scary. Love it! :)

  9. nebnebnosam

I wish the vocals and the drums were less in the forefront, and the tempo was slower. I did Like this track the best.

  10. Scott Phillips

has anyone else noticed that on virtually every song on this album the first lyric is the song title? I wonder if that was intentional. he doesn't necessarily do that with any of his other projects that I can recall.

    shukuchi

in the first album i think every song ends with the title, can't recall though

    MDenRyu

Its a staple of Mike Kinsella to do this since Owen lol

  12. Giothedude

just saw these guys last night. this song was awesome I'm upset I didn't record it all :(

  13. Siickshoes

Put it on 1.5x speed and it sounds like Hot Club De Paris

  14. Starryhooter

It's not really anything new, I like it but I wanted something that was pushing something. whatever, I still like Mike kinsella.

  15. Taylor Auffarth

Hands down my favorite tune from the new stuff and most certainly do not mind the change in sound. You can still hear some of the 1999 album in terms of song structure but digging the vocals too. Cannot wait to get this on vinyl.

  16. I Cook Ravioli and You Watch Me Cook Ravioli

took them 17 years to get into the house

    Shourya Sinha

hahaha good one! needs more likes.

  18. Penny

I love this so much, almost as much as I loved "I've been so lost for so long" and I can't wait for the album, honestly. I can't understand all the criticism around these amazing singles... What did people expect? Teenage feelings again? These people are 40 years old, they're gonna produce more "mature" and studied material; like it or not, nothing is gonna be the same as their first album and that's what it must be like. Unless you want a completely fake and unpersonal album.

  20. Jack McMahon

I love you guys, but man this album needs to be re-mastered so desperately. The vocals are wayyyy to loud. One of the things that made you guys great was how the vocals we not the centrepiece of the song - it created much more of a mood.

    austin irwin

Jack McMahon it doesn't matter what anyone thinks.. it's their music, their art. so it's just the way it was meant to be. :)

    jigyoda

    The vocals are fine.

  21. joshua teixeira

the abacus. wrecked edifice. something i thought i was supposed to hang on to.

  22. Luis Mesa

    post the lyrics please niggas

  23. Vimal Samuel

    melody eh

  24. Matt Stottmann

Excellent track! I really don't understand why these record companies won't allow these videos to be shared on Twitter, external websites, etc. -- what better way to promote a track and help make some money for the band? Not an intelligent marketing decision!

    Polyvinyl Records

The video is public and completely shareable.

    Matt Stottmann

Actually, it isn't -- you can embed or share the video, but when you click to play it it says "This video contains content from WMG. It is restricted from playback on certain sites". Just checked it on Twitter.

    Luke Scott

It works fine on Facebook dude.

    Matt Stottmann

That's good. I brought this up because I originally saw this shared on a guitar forum -- didn't work there. Then I wanted to get the word out on Twitter -- didn't work there either. I've been a fan of this band for many years, and I just think it would be wise for this to be sharable and fully functional on ALL social media.

    jesse stensby

Not everyone pays an appropriate amount. In some cases when you share it on some sites, the band gets no credit for a spin/play. Hence why you can't everywhere.

  25. robert zoolander

I love mikes vocals on this track ! Too hype about my pre order

  26. Bob Maget

This is easily my favorite of the 3 singles released. That being said, what has been somewhat of a let down for me, unlike most peoples opinion on Mikes singing/vocal mix/sounding like owen, has been the drums. Hoping the rest of the album has some songs that make me want to focus on the drums, like so many songs did on their '99 album. Member the drums on the instrumental half of Honestly? Member?!

    Mysundayaffair

this LP 2 is not as good as i wanted it to be. honestly.

    Swatchlineart covers

It's growing on me, however I feel some grooves could've been longer, and more elaborated on. especially on the track born to lose. I feel when I heard a part of a song and thought wow this is really good, they move on to something else to quickly in my opinion.

    CobaltIsNotReal

    +mysundayaffair sz don't you mean Honestly? :^)

    Mysundayaffair

    Metroname

So, what do you think about this album now?

  27. ProbyWaN1337

this is so good. can't wait for the album!

    Rodrigo F.

    already leaked m8

  28. Kevin Schmidt

Went from being unique to just sounding like any math emo band from 2007-present

    Video Dumpster Fire

Considering they invented the genre id say everyone sounds like them.

    Théophile Phanoune

As far as I'm concerned, no band sounds like 90's American Football. And I don't think they invented any "genre".

  29. Ed Stark

Love the new tracks but wondering if anything will ever hit me like 'Never Meant' did.

    Kendall Watts

Ed Stark wait till you hear "Where are we now?"

    J K

Agreed, Owen undeservedly gets overshadowed by AF. The King of Why's
really took me by surprise. I mean I knew it would be good, all his
albums are, but I think it's one of his best. The Desperate Act is my
    fave song.

    Rafael

most tracks in owen's self-titled lp and "at home with owen" hit me as much as, if not more than "never meant" did

    Bridger Weatherston

Ed Stark true, never meant is obviously the best AF song

    Tristan ivan

    i feel you bro

  30. bowieonsoultrain

    so glad they're back.

  31. Maicon M.

great track. my hopes for this album are back.

  32. Rafael

easily the best track in the album

    synthesizerneil

You've heard the whole thing already?

    Rafael

    @synthesizerneil
    it has already leaked

    Kendall Watts

    synthesizerneil it leaked...

  33. synthesizerneil

Dang Mike's vocals are different on this one, but I like it.

    pestopartyy

He kinda sounds like Evan Weiss here imo

    Aaron Gundry

bob nana style, cant get enough!
