American Aquarium - Tough Folks Lyrics
I'm caught in the shadows, the American South
Somewhere between hypocrite and hallelujah
Six generations of barely gettin' by
Six generations of hate, what's it to ya?
When the only thing harder than the work is the luck
And last November I saw firsthand
What desperation makes good people do
Life ain't fair
Saddle up, boy, and see it through
Tough times don't last
Tough folks do
See I come from a long line of Carolina farmers
For years, tobacco was the answer
'Til the doctors started callin' it cancer
So we took to the hills of the Blue Ridge Mountains
With a harvest of corn and some copper line
And we found you can get a little slice of heaven
With some sugar yeast water and a whole lotta time
Life ain't fair
Saddle up, boy, and see it through
Tough times don't last
But tough folks do
Where I'm from a man's only worth the weight of his word and
Respect ain't handed out, it's earned
I've been runnin' with my back to the wall for seventeen years now
And if it's one thing that I've learned, it's...
Life ain't fair
Saddle up, boy, and see it through
Tough times don't last
But tough folks do
Life ain't fair
Saddle up, saddle up
Life ain't fair
Saddle up, saddle up
Life ain't fair
Saddle up, boy, and see it through
Tough times don't last
But tough folks do
Tough times don't last
But tough folks do

American Aquarium Tough Folks Comments
Funny piece of video inception - this home-brew video discusses American Lagers by tasting "Tough Folks" by Trophy Brewing in Raleigh.

They're playing down the street from me tonight, but none of my craigslist stuff has sold and I don't have the money to go. Sad face.
Siriusxm 60 Outlaw Country brought me here.
Grandi !! Un saluto dall’Italia.
I feel like I’m rocking out to Springsteen.
Best band ever out of NC. One of the best concert bands ever. Seen them several times
Came here after finding Joshua Ray Walker, who is opening for them in Tulsa Dec 29. and am super disappointed. Look up Joshua Ray Walker, get this video out of your ears.
I'm surprised they didn't pan over to the old Winston Tobacco billboard which is just a little bit away on 421.
He's so busy shoehorning Murica in for profit, he don't even care if the lyrics fit the music "Caaaaaaancer"
kinda got me interested but social distortion does it better.
WEIRD.....the calendar says October 3rd in this video.......today is October 3rd.
12 listeners hate America and have no taste in music.
great lyrics - seems like USA is fighting for it's soul again - good to see
And we'll win it back for sure.
If this doesn’t scream MERICA I don’t know what does!
I love that they showed North Wilkesboro Motor Speedway in this video. I live only one county away from it. (Its in Wilkes County, and I live in Caldwell County, NC).
used to go there so many years ago when I lived in Mocksville
I hate to see what's happened to the place. Never been there. Never been close to there... but a lot of good racing happened there and it's a shame it's been allowed to fae.
Great video Shane!
Love that this is shot at North Wilkesboro. Think it gives the video extra meaning for those from NC.
Damn. Glad y'all are back!
Great song. Glad to finally hear some new AQ. Hope to catch y’all in DFW again pretty soon.

Bubba boeker. Hard work pays off. Happy for you man
This is good stuff, best song of 2018 so far...
BJ can't write a bad song. 🤘
hell yeah
I only came here because North Wilkesboro Speedway was shown in the video.
I'm really happy to hear American Aquarium back!
The song feels like a hearty hopeful slap on the back!
We all surely need that!
Damn this is classic American aquarium. Love it.
I'll be honest, after the punch in the gut I received from the amazing "Burn. Flicker. Die." the followup, "Wolves," left me feeling a little letdown. This song feels like a step in the right direction.
listen to wolves some more. it's a sleeper hit, but once it grows on you you'l find it's one of their best records.
Cole Peterson Wolves is way deeper than Burn. There’s a lot more to music than power cords and cool party tunes.
