America - You Girl Lyrics

When the winds blow cold
Am I left alone
To remember times gone by
Was it all in vain
Did the faces change
And I never questioned why
Now the answer's clear
I need you here, 'cause

Everything I'll ever want
Everything I'll ever need
Is in you girl
Everything I'll ever want
Everything I'll ever need
Is in you

You are my love today
My life tomorrow
My very soul
And I've searched over the mountains
All through the shadows
Under the water, too
All to find
Just to find that

Everything I'll ever want
Everything I'll ever need
Is in you girl
Everything I'll ever want
Everything I'll ever need
Is in you

Now the answer's clear
I need you here, 'cause

Everything I'll ever want
Everything I'll ever need
Is in you girl
Everything I'll ever want
Everything I'll ever need
Is in you

Everything I'll ever want
Everything I'll ever need
Is in you girl
Everything I'll ever want
Everything I'll ever need
Is in you

Everything I'll ever want
Everything I'll ever need
Is in you girl
Everything I'll ever want
Everything I'll ever need
Is in you

right up there with "Three Roses"

So what happened to this one? Im just furious that all America's songs went by the wayside. This one had top ten written all over it. WHy didn't it happen?

+Wilcey Whatweekindo  I concur , a brilliant song unknown to the last two generations ,

    W.... W....

Very simple answer, Wilcey. Their record label (Capitol) never released it as a single. The label screwed up many times during the groups run with Capitol. The 1st LP for Capitol "Silent Letter"  had a great song with "And Forever" which was never released and by far the best song on the album. "Alibi" had a fantastic song "Survival" which this idiot company never released as a single in the US. They did get it right on "View From The Ground" with "You Can Do Magic" but this beautiful song would've been a great followup. The next album "Your Move" had the label release "The Border" as the first single, but picked a poor choice for the second one. "My Kinda Woman" & "She's A Runaway" and a few others should have been hits.

I totally agree. Vastly underrated song. I love sending this song to people.

This song (co-written by Dewey Bunnell with Bill Mumy & Robt. Haimer) definitely seems to have a Burt Bacharach influence on the chorus ("Anyone Who Had a Heart"). (Interestingly, America's former producer George Martin brought Bacharach's song to UK artist Cilla Black almost as soon as Dionne Warwick's version took off. Cilla's went to #1 in the UK while Dionne's never made higher than #42 there.) "You Girl" is a pretty song - so listenable!
