Strange: I Always saw that as their weak point. Take the version of "Horse with no name" on the official live LP, my listening experience was rather it was done in a somewhat sloppy way. It's not Supertramp or Genesis to name but these, who took their studio LP's to a much higher level during "live" shows. I never really had that feeling with America, a band I really love otherwise. The many so-so unoffical live recordings which are here on Youtube don't help change that point of view. But mind you, as far as I know, America has never been in my country (Belgium), so I only speak based on the Live LP and based on these unofficial live recordings here on YT.

Actually the band members are good friends with Christopher Cross and the two bands tour together every so many years. Dewey Bunnell's voice is still excellent and "The Border" is always well-received when played in concert :)

AMERICA is going strong, They average 100-150 concerts per year...many in the U.S. but they also travel to the UK, Australia, Japan, Canada, Mexico, Honduras, etc. In 2011, they put out a CD, "Back Pages", which are covers of songs that have inspired them in their lives. In 2007, they put out "Here & Now" which were original songs. Both albums did well! If you get a chance see them, they put on excellent shows and also do meet/greets :) Really nice and fun guys, too!

They're still around. Think they might have done a "light" tour in the last few years. Light as in, not really promoting themselves or the tour and not having a heavy schedule. lol

America released a LIVE compilation about 15 years ago that I happen to find at a used CD store. It had a fantastic rendition of The Border on it. This is an under rated song from America. Had this been played more often on the radio, I think it would have done much better commercially even though it was played sometimes on the radio, it wasn't a real big hit for them. It should have been. It is one of their best songs. Sister Golden Hair was WORE OUT on the radio too much!

This song did not represent a "change" in these guys style, it was instead an example of their versatility. They are still the America of "Horse" and still one of the best and most highly respected groups of their era.

They are touring this summer and fall. Just saw them the other day at Penns Peak, Pa. Great performance. Even got to meet them. Google their web site and get their concert tour dates. America EST. 1970

I remember this song so well from the Summer of 1983 and listening it at my then-best friend's house at the time. So sad that they don't play it on the radio anymore.

Killer sax solo @ 2:27 is the highlight of this last song by America to grace the pop charts. My only complaint is .....saxophone?...w/America??...their style had changed so much by this time with the Russ Ballard tunes and additional instrumention that one would hardly know it was them if not for thier vocals.... Fortunately, a return to form has graced this duo as of late.

Its still a #1 song in LIMA, OH and on their revolving playlist... The rural town of Lima remains in an 80s timewarp.

Yeah...this is almost a RE-WRITE of that song. I've played them both live...same key, same chords, same groove. You could really do a medley of these songs on-stage, and it would work perfectly
