America - Political Poachers Lyrics

Someone told me you got to be free
Someone told me to stand in the rear
Keep on searchin' for kings in the street
Keep on cryin' for something that's clear

You are one more posse to pass in the night
One more con to conceal
One more tiger to paint on a stripe
One more player to deal

Political poachers push plump packages
Past pacified places
Concerned citizens cry crude conduct
'Cause Captain Command
Don't do dreams
Do dreary drivel drive
Doctor, daddy divine
Prize shipment tonight, tomorrow tame tempers
To touch tender time

You are one more posse to pass in the night
One more con to conceal
One more tiger to paint on a stripe
One more player to deal

You are one more posse to pass in the night
One more con to conceal
One more tiger to paint on a stripe
One more player to deal

It takes one more moment of time in your life
One more light to reveal
One more place in the sun to turn ripe
One more kingdom to feel

You are one more posse to pass in the night
One more con to conceal
One more tiger to paint on a stripe
One more player to deal

It takes one more moment of time in your life
One more light to reveal
One more place in the sun to turn ripe
One more kingdom to feel

Finally got to see them live in Biloxi about a year ago. They were awesome and Dewey's voice hasn't changed a bit.

Love America and this is one of my Favourite songs

This was written and performed during the Nixon Watergate fiasco. It certainly seems relevant today with Trump. The Dr. part is a tie to Henry Kissinger. Great song.

This has to be the most underrated America album, especially this track.
-The vocoder/talkbox retreating to the root at 0:43
    -Carlton’s godlike Electric Sitar tone
-The cut time 12 string alongside the halftime drum
    -The harmonies
    -Dewey’s articulate vocals
    It’s all here!

I totally agree Ruud Thommes. I fell in love with Gerry's good looks back in the 70's as I was an adolescent then. But in retrospect, it was all Dewey. I knew he had a knack for quirky cool lyrics that made you think but he really had the voice, the melodies the whole package. Gerry just did the romance thing more and Dan had good songs too, but he left early.

They were all good individually and together. All could write, play, and sing. They actually shared contributions and credits more so than most other musical artists. It doesn't matter who you think is the leader, these guys were a great team. No, it didn't last for Dan Peek, but still it was a long run within the music business.

What made America so great was all 3 singers had their own distinct sound. Dewey Bunnell is an excellent songwriter and singer. I love this album (Harbor) and it didn't do that well, which I STILL can't figure out why..

Love the Harbor album. So many great, underappreciated songs.
