America - Pages Lyrics

In this bookcase full of stories
You find some of them are true
Tales of love and glory
Many lives of daring-do
There is mystery and adventure
They lie waiting there for you
So step inside and find the other you

Take the high road tomorrow
But the low road today
Reading other's sorrow
Might just be the only way
The father hears confession
While the mother's feeling blue
These characters do what you want them to

In these pages we consume
Lives in many colors lovers in full bloom
And through the ages words are born
Speaking to the senses lifting the forlorn

There's glamour and dementia
A message from the tomb
Staircase to the heavens
And secrets in the room
When you are riding on that dark horse
To the one that got away
There's no regrets and no dues left to pay

'Cause in these pages we consume
Lives in many colors lovers in full bloom
And through the ages words are born
Speaking to the senses lifting the forlorn

Drifting down the river of the make believe
We laugh and grieve
Hoping for an ending of our own design
Where all is fine

In these pages we consume
Lives in many colors lovers in full bloom
And through the ages words are born
Speaking to the senses lifting the forlorn

In these pages we consume
Lives in many colors lovers in full bloom
And through the ages words are born...

This songs sounds great live .... the guitar playing really brings the song together ! It's always a treat to see which songs the guys have chosen at each live performance we go too. See you soon in Delaware Jan,  2016 !

I thought this album was excellent! Harkening back to their very first album in terms of overall vibe and songwriting.

My pleasure. Your comments were very insightful and a welcome change from the typical 'this tune sucks donkey nuts!' schtick. Peace....

@leonakita, Thank you so much man for the intelligent conversation. Peace out.

Finally, with this ever downsizing mentality in our economy, Are we still going to see multi-million dollar high quality recording studios maintained? Are musicians going to be capable of purchasing their expensive ultra-high quality insruments and equipment. You can't do any job well without the proper tools. Would anyone go to see a guy standing in a parking lot, in the rain playing a $100 guitar and no amps or mics? Well maybe, but would it happen on a regular basis. Would you pay to see it?

Another factor would be piracy and the ease of reproducing music and distributing it that we have now. How do musicians get all their royalties these days? Perhaps we're getting too much free music. I well remember when tv was free and you paid for your music. Now you pay dearly for tv and get most your music free. Bottom line is I think that "the music business" as we know it is in jepordy. Thus, can we continue to look forward to our favorite artists producing it?

so,we live in an age where ppl bemoan the quality of music, but having said all that, is it any wonder? There really isnt any reward for doing so unless you enjoy touring endlessly to make ends meet. Recently ,i was bitching about the prices for tickets to show these days, but considering the 'new business model', as you point out, thats the primary place the artist can get any significant compensation for their work.Sad state of affairs indeed. God bless the artists that continue for the love...

cont...and you are correct...as an artist, the days of platinum and gold albums are virtually gone. Just one person uploading to youtube releases material to the world and youtube has demonstrated its inability to police copyright laws... seriously , how could they?? Napster seems like centuries ago, the tech time warp we live in. I personally will buy music from artists I loved my whole life to complete collections. But the whole concept of packaging, as you point out, is pointless anymore..

  13. l.... ....

Interesting concept, i hadn't given it alot of thought, but you are right The 'album' was really format driven but while even way back in the 60s and 70s it took time for it to be accepted ( in no small part to Led Zepplin's refusal to release 45s), it will now take time for it to disappear. People still expect music from artists to be presented in album packages, but its more a protocol than anything else. Gerry recent release 'Unfortunate Casino' isn't on youtube yet but it prob will be,cont

I truly miss the "BIG" vinyl 33 rpm album. The great art work on the cover, the liner notes, the whole entire item was an awesome experience! Cd's are pretty super too, you still get a product that is specific to the artist and the music, not lumped together with every function and media of a multi-tasking device. The new stuff is not all bad, but it's certainly not all good for true music lovers.

  15. D.... C....

The thing about the possible loss of "the album concept" itself, really disturbs me. In that case we would not expect a solo album or CD from Dewey Bunnell or anyone else for that matter. So what would it be, a single on itunes for 99 cents and no product to hold in my hands. Just an electronically integrated feature on my cell phone. I've got to have something that will play on a big sound system. If desktop computers go away also as predicted, that leaves only laptops and smaller devices.

  16. D.... C....

I suppose there are a lot of variables involved. The direction of the music business, the change in formats and diminishing physical media. I don't know if any music artist can or will be able to make sufficient monetary compensation without being on tour. Who knows what the business model for the music and recording industry is anymore? Is the album concept on it's way out forever? Selling songs one by one on "itunes", downloaded to a cell phone or "ipod"?

  17. l.... ....

yeah, Id buy it for sure...i have everything AMERICA.. they were my pocket band growing up. i.e. i quietly was a big fan of their soft rock style...lotsa pressure on guys to like LZ or Stones, not mellow bands. I felt i had discovered my own personal CSN band, which they were wrongly panned for imitating IMO. I'm not sure why Deweys project was shelved, ill do some more digging see what i come up with. U r right about their touring schedule as well, but its great for us!

  18. D.... C....

Plus I suppose having to do a hundred-plus shows a year puts a damper on other projects. I wish Dewey could do one solo production. Thanks for your comments.

  19. l.... ....

Dewey has the rather odd position of being a strong founding member who's song writing production dropped off sharply after their debut. Over half of the debut LP was penned by Bunnell. Gerry & Dan IMO were the strongest members during glory years of 72-77. Not really sure why Dewey's production dropped off, but it did. I suppose thats part of the reason for the lack of a solo LP from him, although i know after Beckleys release of VAN GO GAN in 1999 there was talk about a Dewey LP in the works.

    RIP Dan Peek

  21. D.... C....

Bunnell has such a perfect voice for acoustic folk rock. I don't think "A Horse With No Name" or "Tin Man" or "Head & Heart", could have been so classically effective without his golden pipes to bring it. As far as I know, he's never attempted a solo album. I think it would be great.

  22. D.... C....

Finally I find another America song that I've never heard before that I like. I should buy "Human Nature", I've heard that it was excellent overall. No doubts about their first or "Homecoming".
